Deborah Knight to leave 2GB for full-time role at Nine News

Deborah Knight is set to return to TV after quitting her top-rating show on 2GB. The Sydney-based journalist, 52, has been presenting Money News for the Nine-owned radio station since early last year, having replaced departing host Brooke Corte. In her full-time broadcast comeback, Knight will present the national 9News Morning bulletin at 11.30am weekdays, and will also helm 9News Afternoon in Sydney. Knight already hosts A Current Affair on Saturdays, which she will continue to do in her newly-expanded role. 'I'm incredibly excited to be stepping back into a full-time television role with 9News and Current Affairs. It's a fantastic opportunity to be part of the daily news cycle and connect with viewers during these important bulletins,' Knight said. 'I've thoroughly enjoyed my time in radio, particularly hosting Money News, and I'm grateful for the wonderful listeners who tuned in.' Knight will host her final Money News episode on July 3, with her replacement to be announced in coming weeks. Her appointment as a permanent host of 9News Mornings and on the afternoon bulletin in Sydney will give viewers a regular host, which has in recent months been shared by a revolving team of reporters including Kate Creedon, Sophie Walsh, Mark Burrows and Lizzie Pearl. Prior to her appointment as Money News host, Knight replaced Steve Price on 2GB's Afternoons from 2020 until 2023. Before that, she had an ill-fated stint as co-host of Nine Networks' Today show in 2019 alongside Georgie Gardner, in which she replaced Karl Stefanovic following his axing. The gig only lasted a year due to declining ratings, with Stefanovic making his triumphant return to Today in 2020 alongside Allison Langdon. Knight first joined the Nine Network in 2011, having begun her broadcast career at the ABC before later joining Network Ten as their US correspondent from 2001.

'I don't get it': Eternally youthful Getaway host Catriona Rowntree, 53, reveals her major problem with Paris

Catriona Rowntree has taken aim at one of Paris's most enduring quirks- its notoriously small hotel lifts. The Getaway host, who's spent nearly three decades travelling the globe for the long-running Nine Network series, voiced her frustration on Instagram while in the French capital. "Another European lift. I don't get it?" the 53-year-old mother of two said in a video shared to her Instagram stories on Tuesday. "How does anyone fit a suitcase and human in here. Does that make me crazy?" The veteran TV host isn't new to the lift dilemma, either. Just days earlier, Rowntree shared a reel titled "dumb things I've done in Paris" which included a video of her sending her suitcase up the lift on its own because there wasn't enough room for her to fit alongside it. "My suitcase barely fits in the lift," she said. "Have to send it on its own. Shameless overpacker!" She followed the post with a photo of her large red hardshell suitcase crammed inside a tiny lift with the caption: "Learn from my mistakes!" Her relatable gripe struck a chord with fans. "Been there!! Stay strong," one follower commented. Another added: "Oh oui!!!! I've done the exact same thing and somehow I don't learn!" Rowntree, who has been in France filming new Getaway segments since mid-June, has also shared other moments from her Parisian adventure, including a star sighting. "So, I'm just enjoying the Parisian view when this happens…," she captioned a clip filmed while dining at Le Sevre Raspail, as French film icon Isabelle Huppert casually walked past. "French cinematic royalty strolls by. IYKYK (If you know you know)." On Monday night, she also posted a dreamy video of a hot air balloon floating above Paris around 10:30pm, referencing a decision by French President Emmanuel Macron to keep the 2024 Olympic Cauldron-inspired balloon on display until 2028. "Prepare to be shocked, sometimes a politician does actually listen to the locals and responds accordingly!" she wrote. "When @emmanuelmacron saw how much people loved the Olympic Cauldron/ballon, he said 'non, don't pack it away!' (Or words to that effect) and it will continue the positive spirit of the games, staying until 2028, re-engineered to increase its staying power and an absolute win for tourism!" She later added: "I really shoulda made this reel longer, but I hope you get the point…it's gorgeous!" Born in Sydney, Rowntree began her media career in radio in 1991 as a newsreader and lifestyle presenter, including a stint on Triple J. She later joined the Nine Network as a researcher on the children's show Wonder World!, becoming a reporter in 1993 and host the following year. In 1996, she scored her dream job on Getaway, where she has remained a staple on the series ever since. While her career is defined by international travel, Rowntree enjoys downtime at home on a farm in rural Victoria with her husband, farmer James Pettit, and their two sons, Andrew and Charles.

Deborah Knight set to make TV comeback with a Nine daytime news gig after 'quitting 2GB role'

Deborah Knight is tipped to return to television after reportedly stepping away from her role on 2GB's Money News. The seasoned journalist, who boasts a media career spanning three decades, is rumoured to be making a move back to TV to front Nine's daytime news bulletin. It comes after the 52-year-old is believed to be wrapping up her tenure at 2GB, where she had been hosting Money News. Knight has kept tight-lipped on her next move, and neither she nor Channel Nine responded to The Sunday Telegraph 's request for comment over the weekend. However, TV insiders say Knight is among several well-known names being trialled for the role of permanent host of Nine's daytime news. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Should she take on the position, it would mark a full-circle return to the network where she previously co-hosted the Today show before being axed in 2020. Her exit from 2GB will also leave the Sydney station without any female presenters during the weekday daytime lineup. Knight first joined 2GB's afternoon program in 2020, reportedly on a $600,000 salary, before being moved off the role in late 2023 due to disappointing ratings. At the time, the broadcaster was said to be 'shattered' by the decision. Despite the shake-up, Knight quickly bounced back, taking over Money News in November 2023 in a revamped 7pm-8pm slot. And it didn't take long for her to prove the doubters wrong. Knight helped drive Money News to a 13.3 per cent share in the latest ratings survey -ranking her number one in the country for the timeslot, and more than doubling the show's audience in Queensland, where it's also broadcast on Brisbane's 4BC. The program also recorded a 0.6 point increase in the latest survey, contributing to 2GB's strongest ratings result of the year. Should she take on the position, it would mark a full-circle return to the network, where she previously co-hosted the Today show before being axed in 2020. Pictured with Karl Stefanovic Taking to social media following the win, Knight paid tribute to her loyal listeners and executive producer Tom Storey. 'Heartfelt thanks to Money News listeners! Another strong survey result around the country,' she posted. 'Huge shout out to my EP Tom Storey for pulling together the little show that could.' Knight's strong run on Money News came after a difficult few years that saw her unceremoniously dumped from the Today show in 2020. She later took over Afternoons on 2GB, starting strong with an 11.4 per cent share, only to plummet to a record-low 6 per cent share in 2023 before being replaced. At the time, Knight framed her new Money News role as a step forward, telling listeners: 'I am stepping back as host of Afternoons. I am not, however, leaving 2GB. In fact, I'm taking on a new broader network role.'

After ‘insulting' Novak Djokovic, veteran Wimbledon presenter axed from TV coverage

In a massive move ahead of Wimbledon 2025, Australian broadcaster Channel Nine has removed Tony Jones from their coverage for the upcoming tennis tournament. The decision comes after Jones' fallout with Novak Djokovic during the Australian Open. Novak Djokovic during a training session.(AP) In January, Jones stirred controversy during the Australian Open broadcasting with remarks on on Djokovic and his Serbian fans. He said, 'Novak, he's overrated.' He also remarked, 'Novak's a has-been.' He also made a statement on the Serbian's 2022 deportation due to visa issues and Covid-19 rules in Australia. 'Novak, kick him out… Boy, I'm glad they can't hear me.' Jones joined Nine Network in 1986, and has been their frontman in sports coverage for a long time. In reaction, Djokovic also boycotted his on-court interview after his fourtn round win. Later, Djokovic had said, 'Channel Nine here in Australia made a mockery of Serbian fans and also made insulting and offensive comments towards me.' Then Jones claimed that he had already apologised to Djokovic. 'The comments were made on the news on the Friday night, which I considered to be banter. I considered it to be humour, which is consistent with most things I do,' Jones said. 'Having said that, I was made aware on Saturday morning, from Tennis Australia via the Djokovic camp, that the Djokovic camp was not happy at all with those comments. As such I immediately contacted the Djokovic camp and issued and apology to them - 48 hours ago - for any disrespect that Novak felt, that I had caused. 'As I stand here now I can only stand by that apology to Novak. I should also say the disrespect was extended, in many ways, to the Serbian fans. We have built up a nice rapport with the Serbian fans... there is banter, and I thought what I was doing was an extension of that banter. Quite clearly that has not been interpreted that way. I feel as though I've let down the Serbian fans. It has been an unfortunate situation,' he added.
