‘Doctor Who' to depart from streaming—Where will the much-loved doctor arrive next?
The long-running British sci-fi phenomenon 'Doctor Who' is set to leave HBO Max at the end of July, raising fresh questions about the future accessibility of one of television's most iconic series. HBO Max has confirmed that all 13 seasons of the modern-era reboot (2005–2022) will be removed from the platform on July 31, with its spinoff Torchwood departing earlier, on July 26. This move affects episodes spanning the Ninth to Thirteenth Doctors, including performances from Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker. As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding where these episodes will be available for streaming next. While fans of the classic series (1963–1989) can still find earlier episodes on platforms such as Tubi and BritBox, the fate of the modern series' streaming rights remains unclear. Currently, seasons 1 through 13 are available on HBO Max, while the latest entries—seasons 14 and 15, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor—are streaming exclusively on Disney+ (JioHotstar) under a separate deal. In addition to the main series, new content from the 'Doctor Who' universe is in development. A BBC spin-off miniseries titled 'The War Between the Land and the Sea' is expected to premiere in 2026. An animated spin-off for 'CBeebies', the BBC's children's channel, is also underway, although it remains uncertain whether The Doctor will feature as a central character. As for the flagship show's future, there are currently no new episodes officially commissioned. In the June issue of 'Doctor Who' Magazine, showrunner Russell T Davies acknowledged the uncertain state of the franchise, writing: 'We don't know what's happening yet, and while everyone works that out, I'll take a pause on this page. Hopefully, we'll have news soon.' For the time being, digital purchases and physical box sets remain the most dependable options for fans wishing to access the full breadth of 'Doctor Who' content—until a new streaming home is announced.

Convened by the Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, the meeting was aimed at pressing the community's long-standing demands related to reservation and other welfare issues. The state government's draft response to these demands was read out by Samiti president Vijay Bainsla during the the Mahapanchayat concluded without incident, discontent brewed amongst a section of attendees dissatisfied with the government's reply. Soon after, some community members gathered on the tracks and stopped the 54794 Mathura–Sawai Madhopur passenger train at Fateh Singhpura station, disrupting rail operations between Fateh Singhpura and Dungeria stations in the Kota division. According to the West Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, the train was held up for over three hours. Approximately 10 to 12 trains were affected due to the blockade. Authorities, including Railway Protection Force (RPF), local police, and senior railway officials, engaged in negotiations with the Jain, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Kota (WCR), confirmed that the track was cleared by around 7 pm following successful discussions. "There has been no report of injury or loss of life, and the railway is fully committed to ensuring passenger safety," he to the protest, Vijay Bainsla - son of the late Kirori Singh Bainsla, who had spearheaded several Gurjar reservation movements since 2006 - downplayed the disruption. "Some people might have come on the tracks. I don't want to comment much on it," he told Bainsla expressed satisfaction with the government's handling of the core issues raised by the community. "To get the 5 per cent reservation for Most Backward Classes (MBC) included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, a proposal will be recommended by the state cabinet to the Centre. The entire community wanted this. It is a legislative issue, and we are all happy," he Ninth Schedule of the Constitution includes laws that are protected from judicial review, shielding them from legal also noted that another key demand - appointing a nodal officer in each district to review and resolve police cases filed against community members during past Gurjar agitations - had received a positive response from the state. "The government has agreed to it," he in the day, the Samiti had issued an ultimatum to the BJP-led Rajasthan government to respond to their demands by Sunday afternoon. In anticipation of unrest, Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham had urged Gurjar leaders to avoid a democracy, everyone has the right to express their views. But when the government is open to dialogue, what is the need for a Mahapanchayat or protest?" Bedham asked. He also made a personal appeal to Vijay Bainsla, highlighting his longstanding association with the BJP and participation in party Mahapanchayat led to heavy traffic diversions in the region. Movement between Bayana (Bharatpur) and Hindaun City (Karauli) was rerouted via Karauli and Mahwa through Kalsada, bypassing the Pilupura area. Vehicles from Karauli to Bharatpur were diverted via Hindaun–Kalsada–Bhusawar instead of the Bayana–Hindaun state highway. Additional police forces were deployed in the area to maintain law and day's events were reminiscent of earlier Gurjar agitations, particularly those led by Kirori Singh Bainsla, which had in the past brought major railway routes to a standstill. Tejashwi writes to Bihar CM demanding 85% reservation for all deprived classes
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday (June 5, 2025) demanded 85% reservation for all deprived classes in Bihar. In the two-page letter to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he demanded that a special session of the Assembly be convened to pass a Bill providing 85% reservation for all deprived classes. A proposal to include it in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution should then be sent to the Central government within three weeks, he said. (The laws included in the Ninth Schedule cannot be challenged in courts) Also read: Can Bihar increase its reservation pool? | Explained Mr. Yadav who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, said that if these steps are not taken, the RJD will launch a massive mass movement across the State. The RJD leader reminded Mr. Kumar that he formed the government with the help of his party in August 2022 and due to his efforts, the work of caste-based census was completed in Bihar in 2023 by the Mahagathbandhan government. Following the caste-based survey report, the State government had taken the decision to increase the reservation for the Backward Classes (BCs), the Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs) and the Scheduled Tribes (STs) from the existing 50% to 65%. Together with the 10% Economically Backward Class (EWS) quota, the Bill pushed the reservation in Bihar to 75%. Editorial | Equality and identity: On the findings of the Bihar caste count However, on June 20, 2024, the Patna High Court set aside the amendments passed by the Bihar Assembly to increase the reservation in educational institutions and government jobs. The High Court had said that this violated the 50% limit set by the Supreme Court. 'Historic move' 'That historic decision of the Mahagathbandhan government ensured that the people of Dalit-tribal, backward and extremely backward as well as economically weaker sections get the benefit of increased reservation. However, this law was set aside by the Patna High Court, saying that the reservation limit has been increased by limit has been increased without conducting a study of the representation of the people of these castes in government jobs and educational institutions of the State,' Mr. Yadav said in the letter. Also read | Limit and excess: On the Patna High Court judgment and enhanced reservation The former Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that, on the same lines, people of Tamil Nadu had been getting 69% reservation for the last 35 years. All-party committee He added, 'In this situation, it is now very important that the government constitutes an all-party committee after conducting a proper study and submits its report within a week. In light of the study done by the all-party committee, a one-day special session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly should be called and a new Bill providing for a total 85% reservation should be passed. A recommendation should be made to the Central government to include it in the Ninth Schedule.' He said that by doing so (including in the Ninth Schedule), the 'anti-reservation elements' and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government will not get a chance to cancel it again through various means. He asked whether the NDA government wanted the current limit of reservation for the deprived classes to be increased to 85% or not. 'If you do not do this, then it will be understood that you and your government are deliberately avoiding this matter. The backward Dalit and tribal candidates are losing lakhs of jobs in the appointment process, which is a mockery of the concept of reservation and equality and the objectives of that Bill,' Mr. Yadav said.
