Cops: Each shooter was to get Rs 4L for killing Mishra
Patna: More names emerged during the interrogation as police questioned Tauseef, alias Badshah, the main shooter in the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra at a private hospital in Patna, during a three-day remand. According to police, the contract killing deal was made at Rs 4 lakh for each shooter. Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma said during the interrogation, Tauseef confessed that he took up the job after he lost Rs 20 lakh in crypto trading. "According to the shooter, the contract for the murder was given by Onkar Singh, alias Sheru, who is currently lodged at Purulia Central Jail in West Bengal. He promised Rs 4 lakh to each shooter, which was not given to them after the incident. We have yet to corroborate all these details," he said. The SSP told this newspaper on Thursday that the murder plot was orchestrated at Tauseef's cousin Nishu Khan's house, located behind the Paras HMRI hospital, where the shooting took place. "He provided the logistic support. Some of the shooters were known to Nishu, while some were acquaintances of Tauseef. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo We have yet to verify who arranged all the shooters. The accused disclosed the names of the people who provided and arranged the weapons used in the murder," Sharma said. He added, "Around 3-4 people were involved in the supply of weapons. They were supplied from outside Patna. The shooters returned the weapon to the suppliers after the murder. We cannot disclose the district yet, but the suppliers are from Bihar and raids are ongoing for their arrest and recovery of weapons. These people have a criminal history." Mishra, who was convicted and facing a life sentence in a 2011 murder case, was out on medical parole when he was killed. A purported CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed five armed men entering room number 209 of the hospital in Patna's Shastri Nagar police station area and opening fire at Mishra on July 17. Seven people have been arrested so far. The police arrested Tauseef, Nishu, and their associates Bhim and Harsh from a guest house in Kolkata on July 19. Balwant Kumar Singh, Abhishek Kumar, and Raviranjan Kumar Singh were arrested in Ara during a police encounter on Tuesday. Two shooters are still evading arrest.

Bihar gangsters frequently visited Kolkata, built criminal networks
1 2 3 Kolkata: Bihar gangster Tausif Raza, alias Badsha, and his cousin, Nishu Khan, have been coming to Kolkata regularly since 2023, a probe by Bihar STF and Kolkata STF has found. Arrested for murdering another Bihar-based gangster, Chandan Mishra, at the Paras Hospital in Patna along with two others, the cousins stayed in Kolkata for over two weeks last year. "We have identified several locals with whom they were in touch, and we are questioning all of them. We will also be keeping a check on their activities from now on. These contacts do not stay at either New Town or Anandapur," said a source in Kolkata STF. "The cousins loved staying at hotels and partying in bars. It was during these bar visits that Nishu became acquainted with individuals involved in Kolkata's criminal underworld. After being shot in the spine during a gunfight with Bihar police, Nishu supplied weapons to criminals for some time. We suspect he might have supplied arms to some criminals in North 24 Parganas and Kolkata too during this time," claimed Bihar police sources. Meanwhile, the four accused, for whom Bihar police received a 48-hour transit remand, set out for Patna around 11 pm on Sunday, reaching Patna in less than 12 hours. Three vehicles took the accused back, the first one carrying the injured Nishu (recovering from an unrelated bullet injury) and the next one taking back the three other accused to Patna. According to information received by Bihar Police, it was mainly Nishu who built a strong network in areas like Topsia, Tiljala, and Park Circus. He recruited his own men there, who helped by providing various logistics after his operations in Bihar as instructed by Nishu. Nishu often returned to the city afterwards. The probe also revealed that it was Tausif who drove to Kolkata via Gaya. Cops found CCTV footage of the Bihar number plate SUV entering the city after losing its track from Ruby crossing. Some social media exchanges between Nishu and a woman revealed the gang members were looking for a house on rent in the Anandapur area. The CCTV of the area was tracked minutely, and the vehicle was tracked yet again, making it easier for investigators to carry out the arrests. According to police, Nishu's friend booked a room in her own name on the third floor of the Anandapur guest house through a local acquaintance. It was there that Kolkata Police's STF detectives apprehended Tausif, Nishu, and Harsh Kumar. The police said that Nishu's female friend was released as she was not involved in any crime. However, Bihar Police are also questioning several others besides the detainees, given at least four other shooters are still at large. They have been trying to find out why Nishu and Tausif came to Kolkata after the crime at the Patna hospital. They said that they might soon move court to question Sheru Singh, who is imprisoned in Purulia jail and widely claimed to have instructed Tausif to murder Chandan. It is reported that Sheru even provides them with monthly payments.

In Pant's comeback, special pride for those who helped him during crash: ‘Motivating to see what he achieved'
As India vice captain Rishabh Pant slammed a six and then somersaulted after scoring the first of his two centuries against England in the Test match at Headingley, Leeds, thousands of miles away in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, a teenager leapt in celebration. Nishu Kumar, 19, who was glued to his phone, isn't just another Pant fan; his association with the wicketkeeper-batsman runs deeper. When Pant was involved in a near fatal car crash near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, in December 2022, it was Nishu and his friend Rajat Kumar who pulled the cricketer out of the car and took him to hospital. Last Saturday, Nishu gathered his friends at his one-room home to watch Pant take on the English bowlers in their backyard. 'And what a comeback it was with that somersault to celebrate the hundred. Rishabh bhaiya showed the world he is back!' Nishu tells The Indian Express. The smiling and jumping Pant he saw on TV was different to the person he encountered that fateful night on the highway. Nishu was heading to work with Rajat in the nearby town of Libberheri when he saw a car catch fire after hitting the divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. At that moment, Nishu and Rajat did not know who the person inside the car was. 'In the ambulance, on the way to the hospital, he showed us his pictures on our phone and told us he is Rishabh Pant,' says an emotional Nishu, who has been out of work for a few months. 'At that moment, when we saw bhaiya after the accident, nobody, including us, thought he would play cricket again.' Nishu said he and Rajat — who couldn't be reached for a comment — were gifted scooters by Pant as a gesture of gratitude. They met Pant at the hospital where he was recovering, and this year the cricketer invited them for an IPL match in Lucknow. 'When Rishabh bhaiya invited us to Lucknow, it was the first time that I was watching him play in front of my eyes. Later, he also gave me a Lucknow Super Giants jersey and made sure there were no shortcomings in our stay at Lucknow,' says Nishu. 'I also saw (Australia's World Cup-winner) Mitchell Marsh at the team hotel but for me, Rishabh bhaiya is the superstar. When I told him that I don't have a job, he assured me that he will see to it and do something.' There are others, too, who vividly recall the night of the accident. Among them is Paramjit Singh Nain, a Haryana Roadways bus conductor stationed at the Panipat depot, who was on the Haridwar-Panipat route when he saw Pant's car somersault over the road barrier and land '50-100 metres' from his bus. Nain says he rushed to help, along with the bus driver Sushil Kumar. 'When we rushed, we saw a man stuck halfway between the seat and the windshield. While Sushil called the police, I called the ambulance and after help arrived, we left for our destination,' says Nain, now nicknamed 'Pant' at the depot. Driver Kumar, 32, says he narrates the 'Pant story' to his son to motivate him when the going gets tough. 'My son is a judo player and I always tell him to have the mental strength like Pant,' says Sushil. 'I don't know anything about cricket. But if the whole world is talking about Pant, then it's the biggest motivation for others to see what he has achieved after that fateful night.' Sushil says it was their 'farz' (duty) to help Pant. 'Before we reached the car, it was in flames. We collected his cash and other belongings safely so that we could hand them over to the police. Then we called an ambulance, police and emergency services,' he says, adding, 'We are thankful to God that he was saved. When we hear that he is doing the country proud, it's the biggest gift for all of us.' Nain and Kumar were honoured by the then Haryana chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, and given commendation certificates along with a trophy during Republic Day celebrations in 2023. The duo, however, have not met Pant after the accident. Among the first to rush to the hospital where Pant was taken, Umesh Kumar, the MLA from Uttarakhand's Khanpur, says 'mental strength' has always been the Indian vice captain's strong suit. A close associate of Pant's family, the MLA says he spoke to Pant before the Leeds Test, asking him to ignore the trolls who criticised his performance in the Indian Premier League season. 'Right from the day I have known Rishabh, he has been someone with great mental toughness and unfazed by any setbacks. So when we talked about his IPL form and also online trolls, he just told me, 'Aap bhi chinta nahi karo. Main bhi nahi karta (You don't worry. I don't either)',' said Umesh.
