New Nissan Leaf unveiled
Nissan has shown its new Leaf electric car that's set to roll off the production line in Sunderland - the UK's biggest car plant. It is the first model to be launched under Nissan's EV36Zero blueprint for the future of EV production and will be built in the North East by the plant's team of 6,000 people. Nissan says the new third generation Leaf has been engineered and fine-tuned to suit the needs of European customers at Nissan's UK research and development centre, NTCE, in Cranfield, UK. It will be powered by batteries from AESC which is situated next to the Nissan plant. The Sunderland plant will also build the next generation Nissan Qashqai e-POWER (which will arrive this year), followed next year by an all-new fully electric Juke. Alan Johnson, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing & Supply Chain Management at Nissan Motor Manufacturing, said: 'It's with immense pride that we unveil the third generation of our pioneering electric Leaf, twelve years after we brought EV and battery manufacturing to the UK. 'It's a testament to the skill of our world-class team that we can bring into mass production a vehicle with such advanced technology and aerodynamic design. We can't wait to see it on the roads.' The new Leaf will be able to travel up to 375 miles on a single charge and will be available for customers to order later this year. James Taylor, managing director of Nissan GB, said: 'We're really excited about the launch of the all-new Leaf later this year. It builds on the success of the previous two generations, which have found homes with more than 70,000 UK customers. 'Leaf is a pioneering electric vehicle that has encouraged thousands to make the switch to electric motoring – and best of all, it's built here in Britain.' A new fully-electric Micra, designed in London, will also go on sale later this year, and Nissan says it will also launch a smaller city car in 2026. Vote of confidence for Sunderland factory as Nissan announce new Leaf car will be built on Wearside
Nissan's new electric Leaf model will be built in Sunderland, the Japanese car manufacturer has announced. Bosses at the car giant said the decision was a "testament to the skill of our world-class team". The third generation model will also run on batteries produced in the city, after the creation of Britain's biggest gigafactory next to the car plant. It will go on sale later this year, with a range of up to 375 miles on a single charge. The new version of the Leaf is the first model to be launched under Nissan's blueprint for electric vehicle production, engineered at its research and development centre in Cranfield, Bedfordshire. Alan Johnson, senior vice president of manufacturing and supply chain management at Nissan Motor Manufacturing, said: 'It's with immense pride that we unveil the third-generation of our pioneering electric Leaf, 12 years after we brought EV and battery manufacturing to the UK. 'It's a testament to the skill of our world-class team that we can bring into mass production a vehicle with such advanced technology and aerodynamic design.' James Taylor, managing director of Nissan GB, said: 'Leaf is a pioneering electric vehicle that has encouraged thousands to make the switch to electric motoring – and best of all, it's built here in Britain.' Nissan's new fully electric Micra, designed in London, will go on sale later this year, and the company will launch a smaller city car in 2026.

Nissan GB has restored its bonkers 300bhp mid-engined V6 K12 Micra
Nissan GB has restored its bonkers 300bhp mid-engined V6 K12 Micra The Micra 350SR has been rejuvenated for its 23rd birthday. Arrives just in time to celebrate the new Micra EV Skip 10 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 10 The new all-electric Nissan Micra is coming, and although the straight-edged silhouette gives away its Renault 5 underpinnings, the cute round headlights are a throwback to those on the K12 Micra. So, what better time for Nissan GB to restore its brilliantly bonkers K12-based Micra 350SR. Oh, and it's also this particular Sunderland-built K12's 23rd birthday this year – an important anniversary for Nissan given the Japanese pronunciation of the numbers two (ni) and three (san). Yep, that's also why so many Nissan factory racecars use the number 23. Advertisement - Page continues below Anyway, we're getting sidetracked. Once upon a time this 350SR wore a brilliantly 2000s red and silver livery. It's now been updated by the Nissan Design Europe team in Paddington and gets a satin 'liquid silver' base with blue highlights. Apparently the design of those graphics was inspired by the rear lights of the 300ZX. Nice. The excellent RAYS alloy wheels remain from the 350Z, while new LED headlights provide an even stronger link to the upcoming Micra EV. Inside there's a new 9.0in infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, although Nissan GB reckons you won't be listening to music on the move… That's because the 350SR had its rear seats removed and a 3.5-litre V6 from a Murano shoved into its cabin. The engine was then fitted with headers from a 350Z, NISMO high-lift cams and induction, plus a modified ECU for around 300bhp. Perhaps we should have another go in this car just before we review the EV. Purely for research purposes, of course.
