5 Redesigned 2025 Cars Nobody Wants
Every year in the automotive industry, models are refreshed or redesigned due to aging styling, shifting consumer demand, fierce competition from other brands, technological advancements, and even regulatory pressures that necessitate change. Any or all of the aforementioned reasons can fuel changes, but the results aren't always positive. Sometimes designs look worse (the 7th-gen Hyundai Sonata comes to mind), and sometimes radical changes push customers away (the next Jaguar?). Despite refreshes, redesigns, and tech upgrades, several 2025 models are piling up on dealer lots. The good news is that this can result in great deals for would-be buyers who might be able to leverage poor sales figures for a good deal. These five newly redesigned or refreshed vehicles may have received positive reviews from critics, but they are languishing in the sales race. The totally redesigned 2025 Nissan Murano ($40,070 base MSRP) looks nothing like its predecessors, despite the sleek overall shape. It had to play catch-up with the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Mazda CX-70. It arrived with fresh looks, premium materials, and an updated tech suite, but its late redesign rollout means it's got a lot of ground to gain in a competitive midsize SUV field. The Murano hasn't quite resonated with would-be buyers as a result. Murano sales figures aren't what Nissan had hoped, with dealer reports showing a 153-day inventory sitting on dealer lots and Nissan slowing production by 21% in response. It's still early in the game for the Murano, and things could change for the model if Nissan continues to push dealer incentives. Every Murano is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine good for 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Standard features include LED headlights, 20" gloss black aluminum-alloy wheels, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch reconfigurable LCD instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless device charging, dual-zone climate, Safety Shield 360, power liftgate, and a tire-specific tire pressure monitoring system. For 2025, the EV6 ($42,900) received a refresh that added sharper styling, a larger 84.0-kWh battery that replaces the old 77.4-kWh unit in higher trims, and in-car tech enhancements, yet sales have struggled. Slowed sales can be attributed to market saturation, especially from newer models like the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the Honda Prologue. EV adoption has also slowed, so an older model like the EV6 may have an uphill battle against the newer players. Its range is between 231 and 319 miles, depending on trim level, and it comes in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration. Despite the EV6 refresh, it's among the slowest-selling new cars with a 217-day surplus inventory. The EV6 comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, heated front seats, a new 24.6-inch panoramic display for instrumentation and infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated fronts seats, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with stop & go and curve, front and rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, and highway driving assist, to name a handful. Learn more here. Not long ago, the Porsche Taycan was the darling of the sport-luxury EV set with hot sales and nearly no end to its success in sight. That was two years ago, and now the Taycan is hurting badly. The 2025 Porsche Taycan ($103,900 base MSRP) gets a mild exterior refresh with subtle changes to the front bumper, headlights, fenders, and taillights. Porsche has also improved the car's DC fast-charging capabilities. Despite this, as well as rave reviews from critics, interest in the Taycan has waned quickly. Tepid sales can be attributed to factors like its high price (the Taycan Turbo GT costs $240,000), rapid depreciation, and a cooling EV market, not to mention more premium EV players in the game. The Taycan's painful 229-day inventory makes it one of the slowest-selling cars this month. The Taycan comes standard with a 274 miles of range from a 83.6-kWh battery pack, 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, Matrix LED headlights, power-folding exterior mirrors, 8-way power adjustable front seats with heat, heated steering wheel, a 16.8-inch curved instrument display, a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless device charging, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking assist, traffic sign recognition, lane change assist, and driver awareness detection. Learn more here. Dodge's muscle car of the future isn't what it was cracked up to be. The all-electric Charger Daytona is powerful (496-670 horsepower) thanks to its dual motors and powerful battery packs. Even its retro-futuristic styling, however, couldn't draw in enough buyers. Whether it's the base R/T ($59,595 base MSRP) or the Scat Pack ($73,985), the Charger Daytona seems to have alienated customers who want the sound, fury, and feel of a gas-powered street rod. Sales never took off since the car's debut last year, and there's now a 241-day supply sitting on dealer lots. The result has been a planned return of the HEMI V8 engine and a new line of gas-powered muscle cars. Loyalists have voted with their feet, walking away from dealerships and incentives in hopes that Dodge will listen. The brand has even canceled production of the base R/T trim for next year. We hardly knew ya. The Charger Daytona R/T comes standard with 308 miles of range from a 100.5 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, LED headlights and DRLs, LED taillights, heated exterior mirrors, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, voice-activated navigation, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, Alpine 9-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel, performance seats, simulated "Fratzonic" exhaust, and a tire pressure monitor. Learn more here. The redesigned 2025.5 XC90 follows on the heels of one of the most beautiful premium SUVs on earth. The three-row mild-hybrid or PHEV Scandinavians are a visual delight inside and out, and the refresh modernizes them, giving them a more cohesive look along with much-needed in-car tech improvements, smoother suspension, and improved upholstery choices. Despite its superb safety, PHEV convenience, and smooth driving manners, the facelifted XC90 has struggled to win customers. It has to fight against premium SUVs from Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus, and the refreshed model didn't arrive until partway through 2025. Inventory data isn't available, but sales figures in 2025 so far have been lackluster, at best. Estimates are about 200 days' worth of inventory sitting on dealer lots. Standard features of the 2025 Volvo XC90 include 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, power driver's seat with memory, a 12.3-inch driver instrument display, 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a head-up display, four-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, parking assist, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, a 360 camera, and a crystal gear selector. Learn more here. Just because a vehicle has been redesigned or refreshed doesn't mean it's a guaranteed success. Sometimes, it just comes down to timing or the market, even if the vehicle is spectacular. These are five examples of vehicles that have earned good reviews but still fail to resonate with customers. Will any of them see the level of success their manufacturers hoped for, or will they die an ignominious death in the slow sales aisle of the auto industry? Even with aggressive dealer incentives and discounted pricing, they have an uphill battle ahead. We would love to see them all succeed, but not all of them will. If automakers improve standard features, drop MSRPs, clarify brand identity, and slow down production, these models may chip away at the surplus. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. Auto review: Struttin' down the runway in the stylish, Nissan Murano
FARMINGTON HILLS, Michigan - You don't so much drive the Nissan Murano as wear it. It's a fashion statement. Even coated in salt from a days' drive across Metro Detroit's wintry tundra, my Aurora Blue Pearl Metallic Murano looked ready for the Detroit Auto Show Charity Preview. Bezeled silver roofline like a Saarinen arch, muscular hips, slim front light signature over a lit lower grille (a touch of Ferrari Purosangue there?). The Nissan Murano is lovely. Always has been. Since it strutted down the runaway as the first midsized crossover in 2003, it has put the "sport" in sport utility vehicles. Elegant lines, lush grilles, high-tech interiors, albino seats you want to lick they're so sweet. Now in its fourth generation, the 2025 Murano is once again on the cutting edge of fashion, for good and ill. For good, it has lost its voluptuous Rubensesque figure from the 2010s and emerged from the gym with a more svelte, athletic torso for the '20s. Cars are fashion, and this is the era of sleek iPhones and Teslas. So, too, the interior, which ditches the ol' vertical lines for lean, horizontal lines accented with high-tech screens and haptic touch controls. For ill? Murano has conformed to the same common turbo-4 engine found in every other bot these days, from the Nissan Rogue SUV to the Hyundai Tucson to the Chevy Traverse. Sigh. Government emissions regulations force uniformity, and that works against elegant non-conformists like the Murano, which used to belt out healthy V-6 exhaust tunes. As we danced across Huron River Parkway, I buried the throttle and ... oh. like watching Beyonce leaning into a chorus and Rosanne Barr's voice coming out. The Ariya, Murano's fetching electric sister, boasts smooth torque that better complements its similarly exotic wardrobe - right down to the same twin screens and haptic wood dash accents. But that comfort becomes discomfort on a cold Michigan day, where 305-mile range drops 30% and the 270-mile trip to Nub's Nob suddenly looks challenging. With 505 miles of gas range, the 27 mpg highway Murano is the safer date. While I bemoan the absence of the optional 260-horse V-6, the 241-horse turbo-4 pairs with a smooth nine-speed transmission instead of the coarse, continuously-variable V-6 tranny of yore. Speaking of yore, many Nissan shoppers will be empty nesters looking to downsize after years carting kiddies in a three-row Pathfinder or Armada. Murano is just the ticket. As is the subcompact Kicks, another stylish turbo-4 entry that is new for '25. Proving style doesn't sacrifice quality, both led their segments in J.D. Power's 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, which tracked reliability over three years of ownership. Both SUVs boast big backseats for leggy friends, but the Murano bring more sophistication for its higher price. The interior is a great place to spend time. Start with "Zero Gravity" seats, which you'll want to rip out of the car and use in your living room they are so comfy. The leather-wrapped console is easy on the eyes - and my knobby knees that rested against the console for miles. For ill? Ergonomics are a mixed bag. Steering wheel controls are superb, with raised buttons that you can adjust without your eyes leaving the road. However, Nissan chose a push-button console shift design that requires you to look away from the road to shift gears. Better that they had chosen a stalk shifter solution like Chevrolet if it was the console space-saver they were looking for. And that stylish haptic climate control? It also requires taking your eyes off the road. For good, Murano is tech-tastic. My list of safety must-haves - adaptive cruise control, blind spot-assist, rear-backup assist, are all standard. Google Built-in (standard on the SL trim and up) has good voice recognition abilities. So you change the temp by voice rather than haptic touch. Hey, Google, turn the driver-side temperature to 70 degrees. Done. I like a car with a sense of humor, and Murano knows dumb jokes. Hey, Google, tell me a joke. What's a pig's favorite karate move? A pork chop. Boom. Murano has a deep bench of convenience settings. My favorite: it locks automatically when you walk away with key in pocket - or unlocks automatically as you approach. Just like a Tesla. Unlike a Tesla: Nissan brings 360-degree camera innovation. Not only will its eight cameras provide a bird's-eye 360-degree view, but it offers multiple views, including the ability to see through your hood so you can perfectly place your tires in a parking spot or avoid parking-lot potholes. I'm not making this up. To discover more tech goodies, Nissan thoughtfully provides video guides in the infotainment screen. My Murano tester was a top drawer, $51,415 all-wheel-drive Platinum model. But I'd recommend the SL, which allows you to option all the features above. Make mine an SL with standard Google Built-in, wireless charging, panoramic roof, all-wheel drive, 360-degree camera, plus ... Auria Blue Metallic paint ($425), spare tire ($180). Boom. A state-of-the-art Murano for $47,950 that you'll never get tired of wearing. 2025 Nissan Murano Vehicle type: Front-engine, front- and all-wheel-drive, five-passenger SUV Price: $41,860 base, including $1,390 destination ($51,415 AWD Platinum model as tested) Power plant: 2.0-liter turbocharged, inline 4-cylinder Power: 241 horsepower, 260 pound-feet of torque Transmission: Nine-speed automatic Performance: 0-60 mph, 8.0 seconds (Car and Driver est. AWD); towing, 1,500 pounds Curb weight: 4,438 pounds (as tested) Fuel economy: EPA est. 21 city/27 highway/23 combined (FWD and AWD); 505-mile range Report card Highs: Sculpted exterior; high-tech features Lows: Uninspired turbo-4; distracting shifter, climate controls Overall: 3 stars ____ Copyright (C) 2025, Tribune Content Agency, LLC. Job interview scam turns into hijacking horror for Brakpan woman
A Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, woman's pursuit of employment turned into a terrifying encounter when she was lured into a hijacking scheme under the guise of a job interview in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. Witbank News reports that, according to the complainant, she received a phone call from an unidentified woman claiming she had been shortlisted for a personal assistant position, with an interview scheduled for Friday, June 20, at 10:00. Trusting the legitimacy of the offer, the woman set off in her Nissan Murano SUV, from Brakpan to eMalahleni. While en route, she received a second call from someone who identified herself as Veronica, informing her that the interview location had changed due to power and water outages. She was directed to Walter Sisulu Street, where she would meet a company driver in a white Hyundai i20. When she arrived, the victim parked behind the mentioned vehicle. A man allegedly approached her with a firearm and instructed her to move to the passenger seat. He then allegedly got behind the wheel and started following the white Hyundai into a remote area beyond the railway line. In a secluded area, the kidnappers allegedly attempted to coerce her into providing banking PINs and making mobile transfers. Despite multiple attempts, they were unsuccessful. The woman told police the men forced her to try an eWallet transfer of R1 000, which also failed. Ultimately, they abandoned the woman in the bush and fled the scene with her vehicle. The victim went to Witbank Police Station and reported the matter. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident, which appears to be part of a broader scam targeting job seekers. 'The tip I can give a person in a situation like this is to ensure that you remain vigilant, especially if you are not familiar with the place you are in. If approached by a stranger while in your car, drive off, if possible, or press your hooter to attract attention. Do not resist, especially if the thief has a weapon, and give up your vehicle with no questions asked and move away,' said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of Witbank police, as he warned the public.
