Bihar Idea Festival Portal Goes Live: A New Dawn for Bihar Startups
Department of Industries, Govt. of Bihar and YourStory, in partnership with leading institutions, unveiled the Bihar Idea Festival's online portal. Poised to channel 10,000 grassroots ideas into market-ready ventures, the platform promises fresh direction and funding for the state's emerging entrepreneurs. Patna, Bihar, India – Business Wire India The Bihar Idea Festival, an initiative aimed at discovering and supporting emerging startups across the state, driven by ideas, identity, and innovation, has taken a significant step forward with the launch of its new portal, opening a 'significant opportunity for Bihar's startup sector.' Launched a few weeks ago, it is a flagship initiative of the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar, and YourStory Media, in partnership with JEEViKA, the Chandragupta Institute of Management Patna, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), and IIT Patna. Nitish Mishra, Minister of the Department of Industries along with Shradha Sharma, Founder and CEO of YourStory and Mihir Kumar Singh, Addl. Chief Secretary, Industries Department, launched Bihar Idea Festival Portal today at a press conference held at Vikas Bhawan, Patna. The event was also attended by senior officials from the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar, representatives of partner organisations involved in policy and implementation, and experts from the innovation and startup ecosystem. The Bihar Idea Festival seeks to ignite entrepreneurship across Bihar's 38 districts by gathering over 10,000 ideas from young people, students, self-help groups, artisans and farmers. These ideas will get access to pitching for seed funding of Rs 10 lakh under the Bihar Startup Policy and acceleration support of up to Rs 3 lakh. Meanwhile, the initiative's GI Entrepreneurship Mission aims to discover 10 new GI-worthy products, create more than 50,000 market linkages for GI products and One District One Product clusters, and foster local pride through identity-led innovation. Speaking at the event, Industries Minister Nitish Mishra noted, 'Bihar's startup journey is making strong progress. Biharis are known for their 'Out of Box Thinking'. They are extremely hardworking and are often called 'Jugaadu' (resourceful).We will promote these ideas and startups and contribute significantly to realising our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's dream of 'Developed India'. There are immense possibilities for startups in Bihar.' 'Following the lines of 'Lakhpati Didi' and 'Jeevika Didi', women of the state will now also become 'Startup Didis' through this initiative, he explained. With maximum participation, we want the youth and entrepreneurs of the state to contribute not only to Bihar but also to the economic activity of the country. We will empower them by providing all possible help. Now Bihar will also walk hand-in-hand with the world's startup ecosystem,' the Minister remarked. YourStory chief Shradha Sharma expressed gratitude and appreciation for the efforts and support of Honourable Minister Mishra towards the Bihar Idea Festival, which aims to showcase the entrepreneurial ideas emerging from the state. 'We will go to every district of Bihar and show the youth, women, artisans, and farmers there how they can start their own businesses. Our goal is to collect 10,000 startup ideas. Selected startups from these will be given incubation support, mentorship, and funding,' she noted. "Youth of Bihar has innate talent of innovation and entrepreneurship. Over the past year, the startup team has helped increase the number of startups in the state. 'This is a moment of pride for the people of the state, startups, entrepreneurs, and youth. So far, there are a total of 1,500 registered startups in the state. This number was 500 just a year ago, which has almost doubled within just one year,' Shekhar Anand, IAS, Director-Technical Development, Industries Department, Government of Bihar, said, adding that this initiative will provide the state's startup ecosystem with fresh direction and impetus. Opportunities for startups The festival comprises district-level events in all 38 districts, a mass mobilisation drive, masterclasses on idea validation, pitch-deck preparation and go-to-market strategy, and a grand finale in Patna. Its GI Entrepreneurship Mission will upskill artisans and producer groups, enable over 50,000 digital storefronts on Flipkart Samarth, Amazon Karigar and ONDC, and uncover new GI-worthy products. The Changemaker Spotlight Series will profile 500 entrepreneurs through reels, blogs, podcasts and a travelling Inspiration Wall, while ShuruKar AI offers an AI-powered WhatsApp mentor, providing multilingual guidance, personalised pitch-document creation and government scheme discovery. Funding and market access support includes wild-card entry to seed-fund pitching rounds under the Bihar Startup Policy, certification of recognition by the Industries Department, acceleration grants of up to Rs 3 lakh, access to the Bharat Project Fund, government schemes, CSR opportunities and a deep mentorship network. By project's end, out of 10,000 ideas collected across all districts, the top 100 ideas will pitch at the festival's VC/investor mixer; and leading startups will gain wild-card entry to the Rs 10 lakh seed-fund pitching round. The top ten founders will receive scholarships on the PGDM (Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Venture creation) course at CIMP, while the top 25 startups will join TiE Patna's Startup Nurture Programme. Bihar's traditional businesses will be showcased with dedicated market linkages, 100 products from Jeevika women will feature at the festival, and GI products will be promoted through curated market connections. Govt launches portal to collect 10k startup ideas
1 2 Patna: The state govt on Monday launched the 'Bihar Idea Festival', a dedicated portal aimed at encouraging grassroots innovation and entrepreneurship across the state. State industries minister Nitish Mishra inaugurated the portal at an event held at Soochna Bhawan, describing it as a "milestone" initiative that will allow students, youth, entrepreneurs and startup teams, even from rural areas, to submit their ideas directly to the govt. "The aim is to collect innovative ideas and solutions from every corner of Bihar and provide a strong platform for them. Every Bihari has an idea hidden within them. The only need is to identify it and give it direction," Mishra said. The portal, accessible at is mobile-friendly, allowing easy access for participants from remote regions. The govt plans to collect at least 10,000 ideas from all 38 districts. A team of experts will evaluate the submissions and at least 100 ideas will be shortlisted initially. These will be eligible for technical and financial support, including seed funding of up to Rs 10 lakh under the state's Startup Bihar Policy. "Winners of the Idea Festival will also get a wild card entry to the seed funding pitch round. Many women entrepreneurs will benefit and emerge as 'Startup Didis', just like in the JEEViKA initiative," Mishra added. Industries dept launches ‘Bihar Idea Festival' portal for startups, students
Patna: Industries minister Nitish Mishra on Monday launched the 'Bihar Idea Festival', a portal for the aspiring innovators, entrepreneurs, startups and students, to share their ideas to promote industries in the state. Mishra said the portal would serve as a dedicated digital platform for them to submit their groundbreaking ideas and business concepts to foster inclusive growth, job creation and startup-led economic development. "The aim of this portal is to collect ideas of innovation, solutions and positive change from every corner of Bihar and provide them a strong platform. Through this initiative, more than 10,000 ideas will be invited from 38 districts. Selected ideas will be provided technical support, consultation, training and resources to move forward," the minister added. It is the govt initiative in association with JEEViKA and others. The minister said the department will initiate this programme at the district level from July 24 by conducting awareness campaigns, leading to a 2-day mega event in Patna in the last week of August. "The winners of this event will get a wild card opportunity to the pitching round for seed funding of Rs10 lakh under the state's startup policy," he said. Additional chief secretary (industries) Mihir Kumar Singh said the focus is on making the entrepreneurial ecosystem more inclusive and accessible by promoting grassroots innovation.

Patna: Industries minister Nitish Mishra felicitated five startups for their innovative projects at the 'Startup Spark 2.0' event in Patna on Tuesday. The event witnessed the launch of innovative products by emerging Bihar-based startups. It was organised in collaboration with BHub BSFC and the Incubation Centre, IIT-Patna. The event showcased innovative products of startups based in Bihar that are ready for market entry. "The event was organised to provide a platform to startups to connect, deliberate and enhance their growth prospects," Mishra said. The minister said Startup Spark 2.0 will prove to be an important launchpad for the upcoming startups of Bihar, providing them an opportunity to meet investors, mentors and industry leaders and expand their ideas. "This initiative is in line with the Bihar Startup Policy 2022, which works towards establishing a strong and prosperous entrepreneurship ecosystem in the state by providing seed capital, co-working space and guidance to the startups," he said. Mishra appreciated the innovative work done by the startups in Bihar and urged all the parties concerned to work together to establish Bihar as the largest startup hub in the world. ‘Ideas Yatra' to identify 1L startup concepts across state
Patna: The Bihar Ideas Festival was launched on Friday during jointly by the department of industries, the Chandragupta Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) and a startup. The flagship event – the Bihar Ideas Yatra – is a 45-day campaign aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial spirit in every district with special focus on women, rural youth and aspiring innovators. The mission is to enable the creation of 10,000 new enterprises across the state by selecting promising ideas, offering mentorship, building investor linkages and facilitating access to seed funds under the Bihar Startup Policy 2022. Industries minister Nitish Mishra announced the launch of the Bihar Innovation Board, which has already received 1,700 innovative ideas. "The number of registered startups in Bihar has nearly tripled – from 586 in 2024 to 1,522 today," he said. He invited the public to suggest policy reforms during the yatra and assured that seed funds, micro-initiatives and investor linkages would be implemented. Shradha Sharma, founder and CEO of the startup, stressed the importance of taking entrepreneurial opportunities beyond Patna. "We must include every woman, youth and dreamer in the state's progress," she said. Now onboarded as a mentor at CIMP, Sharma will assist emerging founders through visibility, mentorship and storytelling. CIMP director Rana Singh highlighted the institution's role in guiding entrepreneurs. "We are committed to mentoring young innovators and providing them the tools to transform ideas into viable businesses," he said. A highlight of the festival is the 38-District Startup Discovery Bus Yatra, which will gather over 1 lakh raw ideas from students, artisans, women entrepreneurs and micro-enterprises. The campaign will be supported by local networks including college e-cells, District Industries Centres (DICs), KVIC and MSME offices.
