‘Fun To See What She Develops Into': Return To Dirt Possible For Nitrogen Post-Belmont Oaks

'Fun To See What She Develops Into': Return To Dirt Possible For Nitrogen Post-Belmont Oaks originally appeared on Paulick Report. After a 17-length romp in the sloppy, off-turf Grade 3 Wonder Again that was just 0.27 seconds slower than the G1 Met Mile, a true dirt race is being considered for standout turf filly Nitrogen, reports Blood-Horse. Undefeated in five starts this year, Nitrogen is the expected favorite in the G1 Belmont Oaks Invitational on July 5 at Saratoga. Depending on how she performs, the D.J. Stable homebred could target the G1 Alabama Stakes over 1 ¼ miles on dirt. Advertisement "The plan is that if she runs well here, she'll probably come back in the Alabama. It will add a lot of intrigue to that race if she shows up," Casse told Blood-Horse. "I've tried to keep her and La Cara separate, but they will probably meet there. I know Nitrogen would love the mile and a quarter. She's developed a bit of a following now, and it will be fun to see what she develops into, and it would be great for racing to see her do big things." The Belmont Oaks Invitational is the first Grade 1 offered to 3-year-old fillies on grass in the United States this year. Yet to win a G1, Nitrogen was third in the G1 Natalma and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at two. The daughter of Medaglia d'Oro out of an Uncle Mo mare is held in high regard by Casse, comparing her to the likes of multiple Grade 1 winners Tepin and Got Stormy, 'At this point in her career, she's much more than those two.' Belmont, Iowa, Indiana derbies mark July Fourth weekend horse racing

Nitrogen, shown winning the Appalachian Stakes during Keeneland's spring meeting, looks like a likely candidate in Saturday's Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational at Saratoga. Photo courtesy of Keeneland July 2 (UPI) -- What could be more festive on the July Fourth holiday than the Belmont Derby Invitational at Saratoga, the Indiana Derby and the Iowa Derby? Okay. The "Derby" is an American adaptation of the British invention. But it has been adapted quite successfully, and those races and others promise a happy Independence Day weekend. Back over the Atlantic, the main attractions are Saturday's Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, the Prix Jean Prat in France and the Deutsches Derby. With a lot on the barbecue and attention likely to wander later in the week, here's an abbreviated look at what's on offer. Saratoga Weekend activity at the Spa centers on Friday's $750,000 Grade III Belmont Derby Invitational and Saturday's $500,000 Trade I Belmont Oaks Invitational. There's plenty of quality and a tiny bit of international intrigue without entries from Godolphin. In the Derby field, Charlie Fellowes brings Luther from England after finishing fourth in the French Guineas and well up the track in the Prix du Jockey Club or French Derby. New Century has bounced back and forth across the Atlantic and now is with trainer Brendan Walsh. He was a good third in the Grade I American Turf on Derby Day at Churchill Downs. The locals don't look overpowering. The Oaks is an all-American affair with Nitrogen the standout. The Medaglia d'Oro filly rides a five-race win streak. May Day Ready wasn't ready for Grade 1 competition in Japan in December and didn't handle an off-the-turf assignment in her stateside return. Maybe now? Also on Friday's Saratoga slate are the $400,000 Grade II Suburban at 1 1/4 miles on the main track; the 200,000 Grade III Manila for 3-year-olds at 1 mile on the turf'; the $150,000 Harvey Pack at 5 1/2 furlongs on the lawn and the $150,000 Schuylerville for 2-year-old fillies at 6 furlongs on the dirt. Saturday's undercard has the $175,000 Grade III Kelso at 1 mile on the grass and the $175,000 Grade III Sanford for 2-year-olds. Elsewhere, by division: Filly & Mare Turf Saturday's $250,000 Grade III Robert G. Dick at Delaware Park finds Spanish eyes making her second U.S. start after an earlier career in Germany that included a second in the Group 1 German Oaks. Malibu Beauty looks like the main rival. Turf Sprint Sunday's $150,000 Pea Patch for 3-year-old fillies at Ellis Park is notable for its name more than its field. In the past, the infield at the Western Kentucky track literally was used to grow soybeans. Classic Saturday's $300,000 Grade III Prairie Meadows Cornhusker, once the crown jewel at Omaha's Ak-Sar-Ben racecourse, still attracts star-quality performers to its current Iowa home, including 2024 winner Red Route One. The 3-year-old wars continue Saturday with the $250,000 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows and $300,000 Grade III Iowa Derby at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Distaff Accompanying the derbies are Saturday's $225,000 Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows and $200,000 Grade III Indiana Oaks. Filly & Mare Sprint The action here is Saturday's $200,000 Grade II Great Lady M at Los Alamitos and $150,000 (Canadian) Grade III Hendrie on the Woodbine all-weather. Juvenile / Juvenile Fillies Friday's $100,000 Prairie Gold Lassie and Saturday's $100,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile at Prairie Meadows may be worth a look. Around the world, around the clock England While taking a pass on the Saratoga Fourth of July festival, Godolphin and jockey William Buick have the early favorite, Ombudsman, in Saturday's Group 1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. The 4-year-old Night of Thunder colt, trained by John and Thady Gosden, exits a victory in the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, and his only career defeat was a second behind Almaqam in the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard in his seasonal debut. That one is back, but rated a long shot to repeat the upset. Sosie, Camille Pissarro and Delacroix, on the other hand, are among the clear and present dangers in a deep, excellent field. Seven are entered for Saturday's Group 2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock Park, with once-defeated Estrange the odds-on early pick. Another by Night of Thunder, she won her 3-year-old debut by 4 1/2 lengths over the same course for trainer David O'Meara and owner Cheveley Park Stud. France Sunday's Group 1 Jean Prat has 3-year-olds going 1,400 meters at Deauville. Germany Sunday's Group 1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg is 1 1/2 miles for 3-year-old colts and fillies.

Nitrogen Founder Aaron Klein Launches Meeting OS for Advisors

You can find original article here Wealthmanagement. Subscribe to our free daily Wealthmanagement newsletter. Aaron Klein, the former CEO and co-founder of Nitrogen, has returned to the wealthtech space with the launch of Contio, an operating system for meetings. Klein raised $5.5 million to get operations off the ground via his own capital as well as investors, including Orion founder and former CEO Eric Clarke, Redtail founder Brian McLaughlin, AdvicePeriod founder and Principal Steve Lockshin, Allworth Founding Principal and Vice Chair Scott Hanson, Edelman founder Ric Edelman, former wealth management executive Barnaby Grist, Pontera CEO Yoav Zurel, Riskalyze co-founder Mike McDaniel, Former Chairman of the Board at Riskalyze Andy Swan and Capital Eleven Ventures. Contio is currently in beta and will launch fully in the fall with three verticals. In addition to financial advisors, the meeting OS will also be marketed to talent recruiters and software engineers. Edelman, Lockshin, Clarke and McLaughlin have also joined an advisory council for the meeting OS for advisors. Klein previously co-founded Nitrogen in 2011 and stepped down from his role as CEO in November 2023. Klein said the idea for Contio was born about seven years ago, when he was still running Riskalyze and spending some 70% of his time in meetings—a process he found to be quite inefficient. 'I went back and looked at my old calendars, and it added up to over 37,000 meetings over the course of 12 1/2 years,' he said. 'There just has to be a better way than your agenda being over here and your notes being over there and your documents being spread around everywhere.' Since then, we've seen the rise of AI meeting note takers, including several specifically designed for the financial advisor market. 'I just think that those products really kind of have it all wrong,' Klein said. 'They do nothing to actually improve the meeting. They just record the misery, and then they send us emails about it. To me, what's really, really meaningful is, how do you actually help people become elite meeting strategists? How do you help them get way better at running snappier meetings, smarter meetings and more action-packed meetings? Because then, the notes that come out of that are actually much more actionable and useful.' Klein said his technology goes beyond the existing tools, focusing on the preparation involved before a meeting. 'We're really starting at the end front-end of the problem, thinking about how to shape the meeting, plan the meeting, use AI to give people their game plan for the meeting,' Klein said. That preparation is a lot of work; it can take three times the amount of time you have scheduled for the meeting. 'We're building AI that's going to do 95% of that work for you, so that we can kill broken meetings entirely off your calendar,' he said. Klein has built a team of 10 people, including AI engineers and data science experts, all in Boise, Idaho. The meeting OS will snap into an advisor's calendar and work with video call platforms Zoom, Google Meet and Teams. It also works for in-person meetings. In addition to using the system externally with clients and prospects, advisory firms can also use it for internal meetings with team members. 'That's where a lot of the intelligence that can feed into those external meetings can come from,' Klein said. Contio will integrate broadly with an advisor's tech stack. It will focus initially on integrating with risk/analytics, financial planning, performance reporting and CRM systems. They've also built a secure AI architecture that doesn't ship data out to third-party AI services. 'We keep all the data for our clients in our secure cloud environment, and there's really not the risk that a lot of these other applications pose where they ship data across the wire to third party AI services on their APIs,' Klein said. Contio does leverage many of the artificial intelligence models available, such as the Llama models from Meta, the DeepSeek 1776 model, and different open-source models for specific jobs, like speech-to-text and summarization. Klein said the company hasn't yet finalized the pricing for the technology. Streaking Nitrogen Could Achieve Millionaire Status In Saturday's Wonder Again

Streaking Nitrogen Could Achieve Millionaire Status In Saturday's Wonder Again originally appeared on Paulick Report. D.J. Stable's Kentucky homebred Nitrogen will chase millionaire status when she brings a four-race win streak into Saturday's Grade 2, $300,000 Wonder Again, a 1 1/16-mile inner turf test for sophomore fillies on Belmont Stakes Day, at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse, the Medaglia d'Oro bay has found a new level this year with four wins in as many starts while running her bankroll to $981,604 through a 7-4-1-2 ledger. She graduated in style in the Listed Ginger Brew in January at Gulfstream Park and added the Grade 3 Florida Oaks in March at Tampa Bay Downs, the Grade 2 Appalachian in April at Keeneland and the Grade 2 Edgewood on May 2 at Churchill Downs. Advertisement Last out, she drew off to win by 3 1/2-lengths in the 1 1/16-mile Edgewood under returning pilot Jose Ortiz with an explosive turn-of-foot when asked. 'She's beautiful. She's big and tall. She's never been much of a workhorse so if you watched her work, you would think she was just average, but when she runs, she explodes when Jose asks her the question,' Casse said. Casse noted that Ortiz believes Nitrogen, who will exit post 6 carrying a co-field high 123 pounds, has won with plenty in the tank. 'It would appear that way. Jose certainly feels that way,' Casse said. Although she exited her 2-year-old campaign a maiden after three attempts, she demonstrated her abundant class with a three-quarter length third in the Grade 1 Natalma in September at Woodbine before closing from 12th-of-14 to finish a close third in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in November at Del Mar. Casse indicated that a good result on Saturday would propel Nitrogen to the nine-furlong Grade 1, $500,000 Belmont Oaks Invitational on July 5 during the four-day July 4 Racing Festival at Saratoga. Nitrogen, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-placed Love to Shop, is out of the stakes-placed Uncle Mo mare Tiffany Case – a half-sister to graded stakes-winner Talk Veuve to Me. Casse also sends out Bessie Abott [post 3, Dylan Davis, 118 pounds], a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-placed Spirit And Glory, who was second to returning rival Al Jafara in her stateside debut in a Keeneland allowance for owners Gary Barber and Team Valor International. Newstead Stables' Laurelin [post 8, Kendrick Carmouche, 120 pounds], an Irish-bred chestnut daughter of Zarak, is undefeated in three starts for trainer Graham Motion. Laurelin has notched all three of her victories with recent recipient of the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award Kendrick Carmouche at the helm at Aqueduct Racetrack, scoring on debut in October traveling 1 1/16-miles. She followed with a victory in the Tepin in November by a half-length over New York-bred Five G, who subsequently won the Cash Run at Gulfstream and later the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks. Last out, in her April 27 seasonal debut, Laurelin posted a game neck victory over pacesetting returning rival Opulent Restraint in the one-mile Listed Memories of Silver with another returning rival, Virgin Colada, in third. There, she stalked Opulent Restraint through splits of 23.11, 48.60 and 1:14.05. Into the final turn, Carmouche tipped Laurelin to the outside of Opulent Restraint as a retreating Burner Account drifted in and caused Italian Soiree to steady and bump with the favored Virgin Colada, who had her rally from last stymied. Opulent Restraint dug in along the rail inside the eighth pole, but Laurelin would not be denied the narrow score in a final time of 1:38.68. 'You can't fault her record, that's for sure. She's done nothing wrong and impressed me every time she's run—particularly last time,' Motion said. 'We have liked her a lot since the day she came to us and she has always been professional. I don't think I've been surprised by any of her races.' Bred in Ireland by M.H. Dixon and Mount Coote Estates, Laurelin was a $169,488 purchase from Book 1 of the 2023 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale and is out of the winning Cape Cross mare Bari, making her a half-sister to Irish stakes-winner Maude Gonne Spirit. Advertisement Five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown will send out a formidable trio in Opulent Restraint [post 5, Irad Ortiz, Jr., 120 pounds], Virgin Colada [post 4, Joel Rosario, 118 pounds] and Al Jafara [post 1, Flavien Prat, 118 pounds] as he looks for a record-extending seventh win in this event following past success with Lady Eli [2015], New Money Honey [2017], Cambier Parc [2019], Consumer Spending [2022], Prerequisite [2023] and Segesta [2024]. Stephanie Seymour Brant's Opulent Restraint, by Dubawi, captured the Listed Chelsey Flower by a nose traveling 1 1/16-miles in October at Belmont at the Big A. She was a 5 1/4-length fourth to Nitrogen in the Florida Oaks in her seasonal debut ahead of her game Memories of Silver try. 'A nice filly. Headstrong, but solid,' Brown said, as he pursues a fourth consecutive Wonder Again. Opulent Restraint is out of the multiple graded stakes-winning dam Significant Form was second in this event in 2018 for the same connections. Resolute Racing's Virgin Colada, by More Than Ready, graduated at first asking in July at the Spa with a rallying half-length score. She was subsequently second in both the Listed P. G. Johnson at Saratoga and Grade 2 Miss Grillo at Belmont at the Big A before a troubled off-the-board effort in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in November at Del Mar. She will look to get a clean run after traffic trouble last out in her seasonal debut in the Memories of Silver. 'She had a lot of trouble turning for home,' Brown said. Madaket Stables, Michael Dubb and Richard Schermerhorn's Al Jafara was a stylish winner of her stateside debut, closing from last-of-12 and seven lengths off the pace to win the aforementioned 1 1/16-mile allowance on April 12 over good Keeneland turf by 1 3/4-lengths over returning rival Bessie Abott. 'She was kind of a little further behind than I thought she would be, but she sure kicked on Keeneland's turf. Hopefully, she takes to the Saratoga turf,' Brown said. The Pinatubo chestnut made her first two starts in France for trainer Hedi Ghabri, including a maiden win at second asking in September traveling nine furlongs at Chantilly. The $270,611 purchase from the Arqana Saint-Cloud sale is out of the Fastnet Rock mare Predawn, a full-sister to Group 1-winner Qualify and Group 2-placed Shogun. KatieRich Stables' May Day Ready [post 2, Frankie Dettori, 123 pounds] won the Grade 2 Jessamine last year at Keeneland en route to a runner-up effort in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar. Trained by Joe Lee, the Tapit bay completed her campaign with an off-the-board effort in the Group 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies at Kyoto in Japan. May Day Ready has worked steadily over the Keeneland dirt for her seasonal debut, including a half-mile breeze in 48.80 on May 25. The $325,000 purchase at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training is out of the Group 3-winning More Than Ready mare Nemoralia, who was second in the 2015 Grade 1 Frizette and third in the 2015 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Advertisement A talented group also includes trainer Rusty Arnold's recent maiden winner Love You Anyway [post 7, Luis Saez, 118 pounds], a $450,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase for Bregman Family Racing out of the Grade 3 winning Quality Road mare Princess La Quinta. The Wonder Again is slated as Race 6 on Saturday's 14-race card, headlined by the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA Bets in Race 13. Other Grade 1 action includes the Hill 'n' Dale Metropolitan Handicap [Race 8] – a 'Win and You're In' for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile; the Jaipur [Race 9], a 'Win and You're In' for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint; the Woody Stephens presented by Mohegan Sun [Race 11], and Resorts World Casino Manhattan [Race 12]. The stacked card adds the Grade 3 True North [Race 7] and the Grade 3 Pennine Ridge [Race 10]. First post is 10:45 a.m. and admission gates will open to the public at 9 a.m. This story was originally reported by Paulick Report on Jun 3, 2025, where it first appeared.
