Kaizer Chiefs agree deal for signing number SIX!
Kaizer Chiefs are stepping up their transfer window activity ahead of their pre-season tour to the Netherlands. Chiefs are set to depart for Europe next month and will have a plethora of new faces on that trip. It is no secret that they are looking to bolster their attack going into next season. But that is just one department, as they are also intent on adding strength and depth to their defence. One position that is reportedly earmarked for that is the left-back berth. As it stands, Chiefs have Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane. Edmilson Dove has recently been released while Bongani Sam is tipped to follow. Although they're set to welcome former Orlando Pirates star Paseka Mako, Chiefs are also in talks with other options. This publication reported earlier this month that they had opened negotiations with Aphiwe Baliti of SuperSport United. Just when those negotiations started taking centre stage, the club moved on another target. According to FARPost , Chiefs have reached an agreement to sign Portuguese-based left-back Nkanyiso Shinga! 'Kaizer Chiefs have reached an agreement with Portuguese top-flight club FC Alverca to sign Nkanyiso Shinga. The transfer is pending a medical examination and the finalisation of personal terms. The club first engaged Shinga late last year. However, following Alverca's promotion to the Primeira Liga, closing the deal became more difficult. The Alverca do Ribatejo-based club was also eager to extend his contract. Shinga, who has been in Portugal for seven years, had a year left on his contract with the newly promoted side, which was set to expire in June 2026. The club first engaged Shinga late last year. However, following Alverca's promotion to the Primeira Liga, closing the deal became more difficult.' Wrote the publication. Chiefs fans are you happy to boost your left-back stocks with Shinga? Kaizer Chiefs land Portugal-based star
Kaizer Chiefs have clinched an agreement with Portuguese top-flight side FC Alverca to sign left-back Nkanyiso Shinga, as previously reported. The completion of the deal now hinges on a medical and finalising personal terms. Coach Nasreddine Nabi specifically requested a left-back to replace Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who left for Libyan powerhouse Al Ittihad in February. The Botswana international's departure left a glaring hole in Chiefs' defence. Nabi battled to find a reliable replacement. Bongani Sam, who arrived from Orlando Pirates at the start of the season, didn't make a single appearance. Bradley Cross attempted to fill the void but failed to impose himself. By season's end, he had shifted into a left centre-back role after Rushwin Dortley suffered an injury. Despite signing Paseka Mako, Chiefs kept pushing for Shinga, who remained their top target. Amakhosi first approached Shinga late last year. However, Alverca's recent promotion to the Primeira Liga complicated matters. The club, partially owned by Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr., wanted to extend Shinga's contract. He had just one year remaining on his current deal, set to expire in June 2026. Still, Chiefs remained determined. Shinga's consistent performances, including 22 appearances last season, made him a priority. The Soweto giants are eager to finalise the deal and have Shinga available before departing for their pre-season tour in the Netherlands. Chiefs will kick off their tour on 8 July against SBV Vitesse Arnhem, followed by fixtures against FC Utrecht (11 July), NEC Nijmegen (12 July), PEC Zwolle (15 July), and FC Twente Enschede (16 July). Shinga has spent seven years honing his craft in Portugal, turning out for Vitória Setúbal, Pinhalnovense, Juventude de Évora, and the Amadora Star before landing at Alverca in 2024. His journey now appears set to continue in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs. Bringing in Shinga marks a critical step in rebuilding a defence that has struggled for consistency. And signals Chiefs' intent to revive their glory days. Will Shinga have the desired impact that Kaizer Chiefs supporters are hoping for? 'The club is believed to be waiting for this month-end when Nkanyiso (Shinga) is expected to be a free agent and that's what the team is hoping for. They are really happy with what they have seen in him and the free agent part could work to Chiefs' advantage and they are apparently working on that,' a source revealed. Chiefs prioritise left-back role before Euro tour As preparations continue for the club's pre-season trip to the Netherlands, management remains focused on strengthening specific areas, particularly the left side of defence. 'Yes, the left back and the striking department are the priorities for the club to sign at the moment. And that's why their main focus is looking at which players they can get. There are a few they have listed and Nkanyiso Shinga is one of those on the wanted list,' another source disclosed.
