Roma confirm loan move for Evan Ferguson with €35m permanent deal on offer at end of season
Roma have stumped up a loan fee, in the region of €3m, to land Ferguson for a season with the option to buy at the end of the campaign if the loan deal is deemed to be a success. A fee of €35m, in terms of a permanent deal, has been mentioned in the Italian media as Brighton were forced to come down from their initial valuation of €45m for the Meath native. His former clubs St Kevin's and Bohemians will be entitled to a slice of that fee – though not the loan fee – if and when the move is made permanent. "AS Roma is delighted to announce the signing of Evan Ferguson from Brighton & Hove Albion. The deal ends on loan with an option to buy,' the club said this morning after he was unveiled. Roma also stated that Ferguson will wear the No. 11 shirt. They are currently in pre-season mode with a series of friendly games lined up – including one away to Everton – before the Serie A season begins next month. Roma have also qualified automatically for the group stages of the Europa League. Ferguson was not part of the Brighton squad which travelled to Spain for their own pre-season programme as they had indicated that a loan spell away was the best option. Speaking from Spain earlier this week, boss Fabian Hurzeler said he believed Ferguson still had a future there. 'For us it is always important the individual players have an environment where they can develop. We decided the loan was the best option," he said. "He is still a player of us, he still brings us quality with him, he is a target player and I am sure when he gets more game time he will one day be back and be an important player for us."

Kylian Mbappe gets dream Real Madrid shirt number as Xabi Alonso gives Rodrygo brutal message
Real Madrid are set to give Kylian Mbappe the No. 10 shirt following Luka Modric's move to AC Milan, while Rodrygo's future is up in the air after falling down the pecking order Kylian Mbappe is reportedly set to take the iconic No. 10 shirt at Real Madrid this season after the departure of club legend Luka Modric, while Rodrygo could also be set to depart. Mbappe has worn the No. 9 since joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. The No. 10 has previously been worn by the likes of Modric, Luis Figo, Clarence Seedorf and Ferenc Puskas and a new report from Spanish outlet Marca claims that Mbappe is the main candidate for the number. The report states that Arda Guler is another option, but Mbappe is the favourite having previously worn the No. 10 shirt during his time at Monaco. It is claimed that Real Madrid also believe that Mbappe taking the shirt could be huge from a marketing perspective, with the number 'destined to be exploited'. Another iconic shirt at Real Madrid is the No. 11, which has previously been donned by Gareth Bale, Arjen Robben, Ronaldo and Paco Gento. Rodrygo currently wears the No. 11, but he could be on his way out of the club this summer. The Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order recently and made just one start at the recent Club World Cup, with new manager Xabi Alonso preferring other options. And Marca are now reporting that Alonso has informed Rodrygo that he 'will have a difficult time playing' this season. Rodrygo has been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham so far this summer and Alonso was quizzed about the player's future after he did not feature in Real Madrid's 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup. "I didn't play Rodrygo for a technical decision," Alonso explained. "We thought we would be better off with other players. It's not about his future. The fact that he didn't play again is a game-by-game decision. "The way things were going, we needed another player. There haven't been any decisions about the future throughout this entire championship; we haven't rotated much. We'll start in a different context. "We want to build a team that plays as a unit and maintain that feeling and spirit. The World Cup has been very demanding; we've been left in the penultimate stage, it hurts, and now we'll see what happens."

47 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 47
A look at all the players to wear No. 47 for the Saints, from Justin Drescher to Alex Anzalone The New Orleans Saints are down to 47 days before their 2025 regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. Kellen Moore enters his first season as the team's head coach in their 59th year of operation. Here is a look at all the players who have worn No. 47 during the regular season with New Orleans. Saints' History of No. 47 There have been 17 players to wear No. 47 in a regular season game for the Saints. Of those, 14 of them have worn it for two years or less with 10 doing it for less than a year. Bruce Cortez was the first Saint to wear No. 47, though he did so for only one game. A Round 16 pick in their first ever draft of 1967, Cortez was also the first player drafted by New Orleans to wear this number. Bill Dusenbery was the first offensive player to don 47 for the Saints, but for only eight games in 1970. Virgil Robinson was the first to wear 47 into a second season, spanning 1971 into 1972. Robinson rushed for 97 yards and a score over 14 contests and in 1971 was the team's kick returner. Mike Spivey was the next to wear 47 into a second year nearly a decade later, appearing in 14 games over two seasons. Cornerback Cedric Mack bettered that by one game after almost another decade, wearing 47 through the 1992 and '93 campaigns. The first of only three players to wear No. 47 for at least three years was Kevin Houser from 2000 through 2008. Listed as a center, Houser was the team's long snapper for 144 games over his seven years. He is the longest-tenured No. 47 for the Saints. The second longest is Justin Drescher. Also a long snapper, Drescher suited up in 102 contests for New Orleans. A distant third on games played in No. 47 with the Saints is linebacker Alex Anzalone. A third round choice from the Florida Gators in the 2017 NFL draft, Anzalone is also the highest drafted player by New Orleans to wear the jersey number. Anzalone was often injured during his time with the team, appearing in 38 games over his first four years before signing with the Detroit Lions. When he was on the field, he was a productive defender. As a Saint, Anzalone had an interception and forced 3 fumbles while recording 8 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. New Orleans used a Round 5 choice in this year's draft on Oklahoma Sooners linebacker Danny Stutsman. In the defensive system of new coordinator Brandon Staley, Stutsman may be a terrific fit as New Orleans tries to rebuild a defense that up until last year had been formidable.
