58 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.58?

The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 58 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 58 No. 58 currently belongs to rookie defensive tackle Kyonte Hamilton. While it's a long shot for him to make the active roster, Hamilton has been one of the more productive names standing out during OTAs and minicamp. He could end up being a solid depth piece and rotational option for the Texans' trenches behind names like Sheldon Rankins and Tim Settle. Since Hamilton is new to the crew, he can't be the G.O.A.T. of No. 58. Here are, however, several options who could be considered the front-runner for donning the jersey number over the past two decades of success. Best Player: Brooks Reed Before it was J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney wreaking havoc, it was the duo of Watt and Reed. A second-round pick out of Arizona, Reed became a fixture of Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense en route to two playoff appearances in the early 2010s. He came out the gate swinging, totaling six sacks and 11 QBs hits during his rookie season. During the rest of his tenure in Houston, Reed would tally just eight more sacks, but his ability to rush the quarterback constantly led to more consistent on-field pressures, ensuring the Texans won. Overall, in four years, Reed finished with 238 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 23 sacks and an interception.

58 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 58

A look back at every Saints player to wear the No. 58 jersey. There are 58 days that separate us from the New Orleans Saints 2025 regular season opener at home against the Arizona Cardinals. The 58 jersey isn't currently worn by any member of the Saints. It was last worn by linebacker Anfernee Orji for 16 games last season. Here's a look at all who have worn No. 58 in New Orleans history. Saints' History of No. 58 Eli Strand was the first to suit up in No. 58 for the Saints, doing so for 14 games with three starts during the team's inaugural year of 1967. Strand also remains the only offensive player to wear 58 in a regular season game for New Orleans. Joe Federspiel was the first defensive player and Saints draft choice to don No. 58 for the franchise. A fourth round choice in the 1972 NFL draft, Federspiel played nine seasons and 130 games with the Saints. Over that span, he had 5 interceptions, 10 fumble recoveries, and 7.5 sacks. Federspiel was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 1993, the first linebacker to receive such an honor by the franchise. He also wore 58 for longer than any other player in Saints history. Glen Redd wore 58 with New Orleans in five seasons and for 68 games with 36 starts through the early 1980s. Redd had 2 interceptions, 2 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries during his time in New Orleans. His tenure in No. 58 is quietly the third longest of the 17 players that wore the number with the Saints. After Redd, six different players wore No. 58 for the Saints over the next two decades. Only one, Brian Jones (33 games), wore it for more than one year. Scott Shanle arrived as an under-the-radar free agent acquisition in 2006. Shanle would go on to have a productive seven year and 97-game tenure for the Saints in No. 58. It is surpassed only by Federspiel in team history for the jersey. During Shanle's time with the Saints, he'd have 3 interceptions and 7.5 sacks with 6 fumbles forced. He was also an integral part of the team's Super Bowl XLIV championship title squad. Obum Gwachum showed some promise as a pass rusher during his time in New Orleans. However, he was among the seven players that wore 58 after Shanle retired in 2012, with all failing to do so for as long as 20 games. On that list was Kwon Alexander, who started his New Orleans tenure with 58 in 2020 before switching to No. 5 midway into the 2021 campaign. Alexander was productive with the Saints, but often injured and moved on as a free agent in 2022.

Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 58: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 58 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 58 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 58 wearer: N/A There is no current wearer of the number on the Steelers roster — and there's a good reason why, as no Steeler has worn it since the best No. 58 retired in 1985. Last four Steelers to wear No. 58: Best No. 58 in Steelers history: LB Jack Lambert Jack Lambert is the best Steeler to ever wear No. 58. Drafted by Pittsburgh with the 46th overall pick in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft, Lambert played for the Steelers from 1974-1984, making 138 starts in his 11-year career. One of the most ferocious linebackers in NFL history, Lambert won four Super Bowls with the legendary Steel Curtain defense. He was named the 1974 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and 1976 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Lambert was named to nine Pro Bowls, as well as earning six First-Team All-Pro selections and two Second-Team All-Pro selections. He also made the NFL's 1970s and 1980s All-Decade Teams, the 75th and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team, and the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor. No. 58 was unofficially retired in the Steelers organization — and rightfully so, as no wearer was, or could ever hope to be, better than Lambert. Three fans who have attended all 58 Super Bowls are back in New Orleans for No. 59

The only three fans who have attended every Super Bowl are back in New Orleans this year to make it 59 in a row. Old friends Don Crisman, Gregory Eaton and Tom Henschel, who have been to all 58 Super Bowls, are in New Orleans this week and have told reporters that they will be at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. The man call themselves the "Never Missed a Super Bowl Club," and they gained attention after they were featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Visa in 2010. Two of the fans featured in that commercial have since died. One other person, photographer John Biever, has attended all 58 Super Bowls. He is also in New Orleans and will photograph his 59th Super Bowl on Sunday. Two more people attended the first 57 Super Bowls but were absent for the first time last year: Norma Hunt, the wife of Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt, attended the first 57 Super Bowls but died in 2023. Groundskeeper George Toma worked on the field of the first 57 Super Bowls but did not attend No. 58.
