Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 73: a history of the number and who wore it best
The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 73 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 73 and the players who wore it best.
Current Steelers No. 73 wearer: OG Isaac Seumalo
Seumalo, a Super Bowl champion guard, has been a fantastic addition to the Steelers' offensive line since joining in 2023. In his first season with Pittsburgh, the veteran guard didn't give up a sack. Despite playing on an injury-riddled offensive line during his second season, Seumalo still allowed just two sacks on 468 pass-blocking attempts. He's heading into the final year of his three-year, $24 million deal with Pittsburgh but remains the driving force behind the retooled offensive line.
Last five Steelers to wear No. 73:
Best No. 73 in Steelers history: OG Ramon Foster
Offensive lineman Craig Wolfley deserves an honorable mention, but Foster stands out as the best Steeler to ever wear No. 73. Pittsburgh signed Foster as an undrafted free agent in 2009, and the rest was history — 160 games with 145 starts across an 11-year career in the Black and Gold. He played a key role in keeping the legendary Ben Roethlisberger upright and remains one of the most unsung, underrated guards of his era.
