82 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 82?
82 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 82? The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 82 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 82 No. 82 currently belongs to third-round pick Jaylin Noel, whom the Texans believe can be a quality starting slot option after two promising years at Iowa State. The 5-foot-10 pass-catcher is an explosive athlete who makes up for his overall route-running skills with strength after contact and solid hands. After posting back-to-back 60-plus catch seasons while totaling over 800 receiving yards, Noel's value as a third-round pick might make him a steal in the AFC South for C.J. Stroud and new offensive coordinator Nick Caley. Still, he's yet to play a snap with the Texans, so he can't be the greatest player to ever wear No. 82. Could that change after the 2025 season? Perhaps. Mostly because the list is boring after one other name in the last two decades. WR Jaylin Noel (2025) WR Dionate Johnson (2024) WR Steven Sims (2023-2024) WR Isaiah Coulter (2020) WR Wendall Williams (2016) WR Keshawn Martin (2012-2014) LS Clark Harris (2008) TE Ben Steele (2006) TE Billy Miller (2002-2004) Best Player: Steven Sims Because of a punt return, Sims wins by default. While the Texans fell short in the 2023 AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, Sims gave Houston a chance with his 67-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter. Outside of that, no one has done a thing to warrant consideration. Noel, with multiple touchdown receptions this fall, would qualify for the title after one season.

Helio Castroneves Wishes He Experienced ARCA Earlier in Preparation for First Daytona 500
In his first race in an ARCA stock car, Helio Castroneves survived two big hits en route to a fifth-place finish at Daytona International Speedway Saturday afternoon. He was also right-hooked after crossing the finish line, resulting in a wrecked Wendy's No. 82 race car. Rebounding from two serious moments of contact and getting shuffled in the draft late, Castroneves learned more about Daytona than any other point in his lead-up to The Great American Race. There's nothing that teaches you how to race a track than actually racing it. Castroneves only experienced 14 laps of action in his Thursday duel due to an early crash. The four-time Indianapolis 500 champion believes that if he had the chance to race ARCA first, he would've been more prepared for the Duel and maybe could've avoided the early incident. "I'm so glad I did that; it changed the perspective, you know?" Castroneves told Fox Sports. "I wish I would've done this before the Duel to be honest. I know it's a different car." Castroneves was first involved in the early 'Big One' when, on lap four, Cody Dennis got loose off the exit of turn four and collected eight cars. The Dennis incident triggered a chain reaction caution after the red flag, and Castroneves made it through the second crash in the same corner a few laps later. By lap 35, the ARCA Race had only 12 minutes of green flag action when Scott Melton collected Castroneves. With nine to go, due to eight cautions and 27 retired cars, the heavily damage No. 82 of Castroneves was up to third behind his teammate Brenden "Butterbean" Queen. Castroneves was able to push Queen to the front of the field before having to turn his attention to a hard-charging William Sawalich. In the final laps, Castroneves was running second behind his teammate. He checked high, hoping to make a pass as his spotters informed him he missed the window with non-crashed cars coming up behind him. In his move, he lost his position and was side-drafted back to sixth place. Castroneves ultimately finished fifth. "I'm starting to understand a bit of what is going on," Castroneves told Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass after the race. "We got a little bit of a rough start, with some of the yellow people getting a little anxious. Towards the end in second place, I knew it was three or two to go, I wanted to move on the back straight because I knew the wind was against. The spotters keep helping us and telling us to stay behind and it was too late as we lost the push." Castroneves' teammate Queen didn't expect his first ARCA win to come on one of Motorsport's greatest stages, but after climbing up through late-model racing to the ARCA series, Queen is happy to celebrate at the Daytona Waffle House. "Oh my lord, Bean nation baby!" Queen said on the frontstretch, "We're going to the Waffle House tonight. I didn't think this would be where the first win would be, but we'll take it."
