Elegant ghostly Ghibli curtain captures the ungraspable form of No Face【Photos】
Clever design trick brings the Spirited Away star's otherworldly appearance into your real-world home. Spirited Away's No Face is one of the easiest characters to see through in any anime from Studio Ghibli. That might seem like an inaccurate description of a deeply complex figure who ends up as someone unimaginably different by the end of his character arc, but I'm not saying that No Face is thematically transparent, but that he's visually translucent. ▼ What's going on inside No Face is often obscured, but the stuff on the other side of him? Not all that hidden. This unique aspect of No Face's appearance can be hard to capture in plushies and figures, but the designers for Ghibli specialty shop Donguri Kyowakoku have come up with a clever way to preserve this ethereal aesthetic with a new No Face noren, a traditional Japanese doorway curtain. The curtain actually has a two-layer construction, and is made of a lacey material that allows a measure of light to pass through. That means that when the layers of fabric overlap, they still block enough light to function as curtains, but since No Face's features are only present on the front cloth, his silhouette appears indistinct and vaguely defined, just as it would to Chihiro and the other characters within the anime. The complete curtain measures 82 centimeters (32.3 inches) across and 90 centimeters in length. In classical Japanese interior design, noren can be used for both exterior and interior doorways, but Donguri Kyowakoku realizes that some fans might prefer to use this as a poster/wall scroll instead. Because of that, the noren comes with only a tiny cleft at its bottom, leaving it up to you as to how long a cut, if any, you want to make. The No Face Rainy Night Double-layer Noren is priced at 5,280 yen (US$36) and can be ordered through the Donguri Kyowakoku online store here. [Watch]: Kevin Durant Goes Viral for Vibing to Drake's 'No Face' at Wireless Festival
Kevin Durant (Image via Getty) NBA superstar Kevin Durant recently captured the internet's attention after a video surfaced of him enjoying himself at the Wireless Festival in London. The Houston Rockets forward was spotted grooving to Drake 's live performance of 'No Face,' a track that includes a shoutout to Durant in the lyric: 'KD just text me, WTF are we waiting on, damn.' Kevin Durant's relaxed presence among the crowd, moving effortlessly with the rhythm, resonated with fans and showcased the genuine camaraderie between the basketball icon and the Canadian rapper. Their relationship goes beyond public appearances and mutual admiration. Durant notably featured in Drake's music video for 'Laugh Now Cry Later,' and holds A&R and executive producer credits on the rapper's 2023 album For All the Dogs. In 2022, Drake even referred to Durant as his 'executive producer,' a title that solidified their creative connection. Their history of public moments stretches back to 2016, when Kevin Durant made a surprise on-stage appearance during Drake's concert at Oracle Arena. Drake, known for referencing athletes in his lyrics, has name-dropped Durant multiple times over the years. In 'Weston Road Flows,' he rapped: 'Shout out to KD, we relate, we get the same attention,'—a line Durant once said caught him off guard when he first heard it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dementia Has Been Linked To a Common Habit. Do You Do It? Memory Health Learn More Undo Jay-Z also mentioned Durant in 'Crown' with the line: 'It's a new day, hit up KD,' which Durant found particularly impactful after signing with Roc Nation. Kevin Durant has acknowledged being referenced by other major hip-hop artists as well, including J. Cole, Fabolous, and Logic, all of whom have used his name to symbolize excellence and relevance. Despite a momentary tension during the 2019 NBA Finals—where Durant's Golden State Warriors faced off against Drake's beloved Toronto Raptors —the two have maintained a strong mutual respect and lasting friendship. Durant's latest festival appearance comes during heightened attention on Drake, who is currently embroiled in a lyrical feud with Kendrick Lamar. That rivalry saw fellow NBA star LeBron James attending Lamar's 'Pop Out' concert, where several diss tracks targeting Drake were performed. This led to online speculation that LeBron might be distancing himself from Drake, especially after Kevin Durant posted a photo from Drake's music video set. The post was misinterpreted as Durant choosing sides, prompting him to clarify on social media that he wasn't taking part in the drama. Studio Ghibli adds folding fans to its anime specialty store in Japan
Totoro and No Face whisk you away to enchanted worlds. With the humidity beginning to rise in Japan, Studio Ghibli is here to provide some much needed relief with two folding fans dedicated to My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away. The first fan depicts the Totoros from My Neighbour Totoro, in a cooling nighttime forest scene. Totoro and the smaller Medium Totoro can be seen blowing into their ocarinas as they do in the film. On the other end of the fan you'll find the Small Totoros hanging out on a branch, watching the fireworks as many people do during summer in Japan. The attention to detail continues beneath the design, where you'll be greeted by charming Totoro cutouts every time you open the fan. The second design is adorned with camelias and characters from Spirited Away. No Face stares out from the floral setting as a scattering of Soot Sprites scamper about, carrying their beloved star-shaped komeito candy pieces. ▼ Stretching across the fan is Haku, in dragon form… ▼ …and on the bottom, cutout details tip the hat to natural elements like bamboo leaves. With fans being an essential everyday item on summer outings, you'll need a bag to store them in, and there are four varieties to choose from, two of which are new for summer. ▼ The new bags feature No Face, with the kanji 'ゆ' ('Yu') acting as a nod to the bathhouse in the film… ▼ …and Totoro, with a Soot Sprite. Unfortunately, the blue Totoro bag proved to be so popular that it sold out soon after it was released on 31 May. However, two designs have been restocked, including one with an image of Totoro, in a traditional yellow-toned Japanese colour known as 'yamabuki'. The final fan bag is an indigo-hued variety featuring No Face, again with the character 'ゆ', but this time the character is looking over its shoulder, in a pose that recalls the moment a cooling wave of water splashes against him during the train journey scene. The fans retail for 4,070 yen (US$28.33) each and the bags for 1,540 yen each, and they can be purchased at Donguri Kyowakoku stores and online, while stocks last. If flat fans are more your thing, Studio Ghibli has you covered there too. Studio Ghibli releases Mini Mini Stamp sets featuring top anime characters
Totoro and No Face are just some of the familiar faces waiting to leave a mark on your heart. Studio Ghibli characters know how to leave their mark, and now there's a way they can do that literally, thanks to the Mini Mini Stamp collection. Available at the Donguri Kyowakoku Ghibli specialty retail chain, there are four to collect in the series, starting with two dedicated to My Neighbour Totoro. The four designs in the first set are: a Soot Sprite, the Catbus, and the Medium and Large Totoro. The stamps come with a cute case that clips shut, keeping them all neat and secure. On the front of the case is a sweet image of Totoro holding an umbrella, recalling a memorable moment from the film, with a little frog by his side to keep him company. The second My Neighbour Totoro Mini Mini Stamp set contains four different stamps. This collection has all three Totoros — Small, Medium and Large — and an acorn, their object of affection. ▼ The case features Totoro on his own, recalling the logo of the studio. ▼ The third set is dedicated to Kiki's Delivery Service. The stamps here are based around Jiji, with two images of the cat, along with its paw print and Kiki's red bow. ▼ The final set contains characters from Spirited Away. The four stamps cover five characters: No Face, Yubaba, a Soot Sprite, and baby Boh and Yubaba's bird, in their mouse and fly forms. As you might expect, the stamp for No Face is a deep jet black… ▼ …and he appears on the front of the case as well. The stamps are all self-inking and can be used anywhere you want to sprinkle a little Ghibli magic, with calendars and diaries being ideal surfaces for stamping. The stamps can be purchased at Donguri Kyowakoku stores and online, thanks to a recent restock, and are priced at 1,815 yen (US$12.65) each.
