Pittsburgh Pirates MLB trade deadline tracker
Several more players from the Pittsburgh Pirates could be on the move ahead of Major League Baseball's trade deadline on Thursday evening. Headed into the deadline, the Pirates have won eight of nine games but sit 17.5 games back in the National League Central and 13 games back in the race for the Wild Card. Numerous players, including some of the team's most popular players, have appeared in the rumor mill. The trade deadline is at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Track the Pirates' 2025 MLB trade deadline moves below. Hometown closer David Bednar could be on the move, and reports say he could fetch a top-five prospect in return. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Noah Hiles reported earlier this week that the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Texas Rangers have inquired with the Pirates about Bednar's availability. Citing league sources, Hiles reported that the team is asking for a top prospect in return. Bednar, who attended Mars Area High School, has 17 saves this season with a 2.37 ERA and has bounced back from a poor showing in 2024. Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller seemed to be on a path toward being traded at the deadline, but now it seems he may stay put in Pittsburgh. Hiles reported, citing sources, that the Pirates appear to be comfortable hanging onto Keller unless they get a "steep return" for him. Reports say multiple teams, including the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox, are interested in Keller's services. Keller has started 22 games this season for the Pirates and has a 4-10 record with a 3.69 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 127 innings pitched. Caleb Ferguson headed to Seattle The Pirates traded reliever Caleb Ferguson to the Seattle Mariners for 19-year-old pitcher Jeter Martinez on Wednesday. Ferguson, a left-handed reliever, appeared in 45 games this season with the Pirates and joins a Mariners team in the playoff hunt. Martinez, who spent time this season with Seattle's Single-A squad, now joins a Pirates farm system flush with pitching talent. Ke'Bryan Hayes traded to Cincinnati On Wednesday, the Pirates traded third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes to the Cincinnati Reds for prospect Sammy Stafura and reliever Taylor Rogers. This season, the 28-year-old Hayes has compiled a .236 batting average, 36 RBIs, 34 runs and two home runs. Hayes has four guaranteed years left on his current contract, plus a club option in 2030. Stafura, 20, is currently in Single-A ball, while Rogers is in his 10th season in the majors. On the season so far, Rogers has a 2.45 ERA, 34 strikeouts and a 1.45 WHIP. Adam Frazier sent to Kansas City Earlier this month, the Pirates dealt infielder Adam Frazier to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor league infielder Cam Devanney. Frazier, who was an All-Star during the 2021 season while splitting time in Pittsburgh and San Diego, came back to the Pirates after inking a deal in free agency. Still, he was unable to recapture the magic as a Pirate in 2025. In 78 games, Frzier put together a .255 batting average, 60 hits, 21 RBIs and three home runs.

Red Sox reportedly made trade call about Pirates starter Mitch Keller
The Red Sox have reportedly kicked the tires on trading for Pittsburgh Pirates starter Mitch Keller, as Boston looks to strengthen its starting rotation ahead of MLB's trade deadline on Thursday. The Red Sox reportedly reached out to Pittsburgh about the 29-year-old right hander, according to Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Keller is only 4-10 over his 22 starts for the Pirates this season, but he touts a 3.69 ERA and 1.205 WHIP. He's gone 3-0 in his last six games (with the Pirates 5-1 in those contests) with a 2.73 ERA and 27 strikeouts over 33 innings pitched. Keller has spent his entire career with the Pirates, and has gone 40-60 record with a 4.45 ERA over his seven MLB seasons. He was an All-Star in 2023, when he finished the season 13-9 with a 4.21 ERA and 210 strikeouts over 194.1 innings of work. Keller wouldn't be a summer rental if acquired at the deadline, as he's in the second year of a five-year, $77 million deal. The Pirates have been dreadful this season, sitting at just 46-62 and in baseball's basement with a league-low 367 runs scored. General manager Ben Cherington is expected to sell off some pieces ahead of Thursday's 6 p.m. deadline, and a number of teams have reached out about Keller, according to Hiles. The group includes the Yankees, Cubs, and Mets, in addition to the Red Sox. Hiles also noted Keller may not move until the offseason, "a notion one source claims could give the club better odds of landing an established big-league hitter in return." The Red Sox have an established big-league hitter to dangle in Jarren Duran, but are reportedly hanging onto him through the deadline. We'll see if Boston chief baseball officer Craig Breslow can come up with a package that appeals to the Pirates, or if he'll turn his attention elsewhere to improve the club at the deadline. The Red Sox currently hold the second American League Wild Card spot, but could use some help in the rotation, the bullpen, and a right-handed bat for the lineup. Breslow likely won't be able to get everything on his wish list, but pitching should be his priortiy. The Red Sox have a legit ace in Garrett Crochet, but could use some more depth after him. Brayan Bello and Lucas Gioltio have been good as of late, but Walker Buehler has had a frustrating season and Richard Fitts has struggled since returning from injury. Injuries to Tanner Houck, Hunter Dobbins, and Kutter Crawford have further tested Boston's starting depth this season. Boston is currently the second Wild Card team in the American League, sitting 0.5 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners and 1.5 games behind the New York Yankees.

Pitsburgh Pirates insider reveals 6 teams on Bryan Reynolds' no-trade list
The Pittsburgh Pirates are poised to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline with the likes of Ke'Bryan Hayes and Bryan Reynolds drawing significant interest. While Reynolds might be moved, the All-Star outfielder has a no-trade clause that allows him to block a deal to six teams. Pirates' reporter Noah Hiles of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Reynolds has a six-team no-trade clause. Those six teams are the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, and the New York Mets. Advertisement Related: Pair of Pirates' relievers eyed by Philadelphia Phillies Bryan Reynolds contract (Spotrac): $12.25 million salary (2025), $14.25 million salary (2026), $15.25 million salary (2027-2030), $20 million club option for 2031 The no-trade list could significantly impact the Pirates' ability to move Reynolds this summer. All six teams are poised to be buyers at the MLB trade deadline, with the Mets, Dodgers, and Padres all in the market for outfield help this summer. To make matters worse, Reynolds is in the midst of one of the worst seasons of his career. He's on pace to finish under 20 home runs for the first time in a full season since 2019, and he has a sub-.700 OPS for only the second time in his major league career. Bryan Reynolds stats (ESPN): .235/.301/.389, .690 OPS, 10 home runs, 30 RBI, 16 doubles in 324 at-bats If Reynolds isn't willing to amend his no-trade list, it would leave clubs like the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, and the Philadelphia Phillies as the lone potential landing spots. Advertisement Considering Reynolds' production dip this season, it could compel the Pirates to hold off on trading him until the offseason. Otherwise, Pittsburgh will have to hope the All-Star outfielder is willing to change his mind. Related Headlines

Paul Skenes Has a $9.2M Contract as the Pirates' Star Pitcher. He Wants to 'Cut Grass Professionally' After Baseball
Paul Skenes during game two of the doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on June 19 NEED TO KNOW Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Paul Skenes has been getting tight with the groundskeepers at his home ballpark Skenes, one of the best pitchers in the MLB, was spotted chatting with the crew before a game He reportedly told one beat reporter that he wants to "cut grass professionally" after he's done playing Maybe the secret to Paul Skenes' fastball is his green thumb. The Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher was spotted inspecting the groundskeepers work before a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, July 1, in a photo posted to X. Advertisement Noah Hiles, a reporter for The Pittsburgh Post Gazette posted on X that Skenes, 23, 'was out there because he was bored.' Hiles added that Skenes, who pitched five shutout innings later that day at PNC Park, 'would love to cut grass professionally whenever his baseball days are over.' John Fisher/Getty Paul Skenes in July of 2024 Paul Skenes in July of 2024 In preparation for his post-baseball life, Skenes seems to be tending to his relationship with the Pittsburgh groundskeepers. Per Hiles, Skenes was 'chopping it up with the boys for a good 15-20 minutes.' Catching attention for his pregame antics seems to be something of a July tradition for Skenes, who went viral last July for his intricate and eclectic pre-pitch warm ups that included throwing a football, using resistance bands and wearing an inflatable tube strapped to his back. Advertisement Skenes, who was drafted first in the 2023 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates and was promoted to the Major League at the start of last season, is having a tremendous year and was ranked first in June Cy Young Award poll. The right hander for the Pirates, who is predicted to be a starting pitcher at the MLB All-Star game in Atlanta on July 15, has another claim to fame outside of baseball. Skenes is dating former-gymnast and influencer, Livvy Dunne, who he met in his one season pitching for the Louisiana State University Tigers in 2023. Dunne, 22, an athlete in her own right, was a star gymnast at LSU and influencer. "I really just enjoy watching him [Skenes] and he's always on the go." Plus, she added: 'I am rating hot dogs at every stadium I go to." While she's living the baseball WAG life now in support of Skenes, she may have a new title in a few years: lawn care WAG. Read the original article on People

Paul Skenes joins Pirates' grounds crew ahead of win, says he would like to cut grass professionally post-MLB
Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes might be one of the best pitchers in baseball. But when the 23-year-old right-hander's time in MLB is done, Skenes has an idea of what he wants to do next: landscaping. Ahead of his start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, Skenes took to the field at PNC Park to chat with the grounds crew, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Noah Hiles, staying there for more than 20 minutes. The Pirates went on to get a 1-0 win over the Cardinals. Advertisement Hiles asked Skenes about the moment after the game. The pitcher said that he was bored, and decided to head out there during the hours before his start. He also added that, per Hiles, "he would love to cut grass professionally whenever his baseball days are over." It's common enough for professional athletes to dip their toe into other interests. Several athletes have tried their hand at music; Nikola Jokić famously loves his horses. But it's a little unusual that Skenes, who is well on his way to making hundreds of millions of dollars, wants nothing more than to sit on a riding mower once his time in baseball is over. Skenes' post-career plans are also unexpected because his MLB stardom is just beginning. The second-year pitcher is crushing it once again, earning an ERA of 2.03 and a 0.182 batting average against, both the second-best in MLB behind Houston Astros ace Hunter Brown. Much of Skenes' strength is in his consistency: He's pitched 111 innings (fourth-most in the league), has notched 115 strikeouts (ninth-most) and has a WHIP of 0.92 (sixth-most). Advertisement Skenes pitched five innings in Tuesday's narrow win, allowing five hits but notching five strikeouts to keep the Cardinals scoreless. A sacrifice fly from Pirates catcher Henry Davis in the eighth inning turned out to be the difference in the 1-0 victory. Despite Skenes' lights-out pitching, Pittsburgh has been struggling this season. The Pirates are 38-50, sitting at the very bottom of the NL Central, with three more series heading into the All-Star break.
