Sisters Anoushka Shankar And Norah Jones Get Together On Stage For The First Time Ever, A Viral Video Follows
It was all about music and family when sitarist Anoushka Shankar shared the stage with her half-sister singer Norah Jones at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones, who are daughters of the late sitar virtuoso Pandit Ravi Shankar, performed their song Traces of You for the audience in what marked their first live performance together. Anoushka Shankar shared a video of their performance on her Instagram page on Tuesday. The clip begins with the singer introducing her sister Norah to the audience. She says, "We have worked together a few times before, but we have never done it on stage before, so this feels really exciting and I'd really love to introduce my sister Norah Jones." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anoushka Shankar (@anoushkashankarofficial) Norah Jones enters the stage next and the sisters hold each other in a deep embrace before they settle down for their performance. Anoushka Shankar starts by playing the sitar, setting the tone for a mesmerising musical experience, followed by Norah Jones with her melodious voice blending harmoniously with the sitar's intricate notes. Traces of You, which was released in 2013, was the seventh studio album by Anoushka Shankar which featured vocals by Norah Jones in three songs, including the title track. In the caption of her post, Anoushka Shankar wrote, "Well THAT was special! With no exaggeration, something truly unforgettable happened at @northseajazz this weekend. My beautiful sister @norahjones joined me onstage for an impromptu song- our first time EVER performing together!" She added, "We did ' Traces of You ' — a song we recorded over a decade ago, and it felt so precious to revisit it together now. Sitting beside her on stage, bringing this music to life as a duo lifetimes in the making, was truly a moment Huge love to everyone who joined us and helped make this dream a reality." While Anoushka Shankar is a renowned sitarist who blends multiple genres and styles such as classical and contemporary, acoustic and electronic in her music, Norah Jones has gained fame as a jazz and pop singer-songwriter. Despite pursuing different musical paths and having different mothers (Norah Jones's mother is Sue Jones and Anoushka Shankar's mother is Sukanya Rajan), the sisters share a close bond.

Daily Affirmation for July 13, 2025 to Kickstart Your Vibe
✨ Today's Affirmation: 'I don't chase what's meant for me — I attract it by being real.' 💫 Vibe Check: Let's be honest: it's exhausting pretending to be 'cooler,' 'calmer,' or 'more together' than you really are. Today's energy is about dropping the mask. The version of you that's a little messy, super honest, and fully yourself? That's magnetic. No chasing. No performing. Just being. And guess what? That's enough. 🧘♀️ Why This Works: This affirmation is your gentle clapback to hustle culture and people-pleasing. Instead of bending yourself to fit what (or who) you think you need, it invites you to expand into your own truth. When you're real with yourself, you start attracting people, opportunities, and moments that vibe with the actual you — not the curated one. 🌿 Your Mini Mission: Write down one habit, person, or idea you've been holding onto because it looks good but doesn't feel good. Then? Let it go. Even if it's just for today. Make space for what actually feels aligned with the real you. 🎧 Affirmation Vibes Playlist: Some lowkey bops for when you're choosing honesty over hustle: 'Let It All Go' – RHODES + Birdy 'The Story' – Norah Jones 'Cool Girl' – Tove Lo 🔮 Bonus Energy Tip: Next time you catch yourself spiraling over how to impress someone, pause and say: 'I don't need to impress — I just need to express.' Repeat it like a mantra. Feel the shift. That's your power coming back.

‘I was the only person who didn't know the words to Coldplay': Anoushka Shankar's honest playlist
The first song I fell in love withTana Mana by my dad, Ravi Shankar. In the late 80s he was experimenting with synthesisers and released an album called Tana Mana, an anomaly in his discography. I remember my imagination would light up with the title song – I would picture a village dance, and I'd be acting it out in my living room for my mum. The first single I boughtWhatta Man by Salt-N-Pepa. I was living in California in the 1990s and there was a lot of R&B around. I bought a lot of Salt-N-Pepa and TLC as a teenager. The song that changed my lifeI was at Luz Records in California and they put Teardrop by Massive Attack on. I had a visceral response from the first beat. The song that gets me up in the morningBedia by Rajery is uplifting and happy. There's a strand of my heart that belongs to music from Africa; these incredible melodies are unabashedly joyful. The song I sing at karaokeI fucking hate karaoke. I despise it with a fiery passion. I don't understand what's fun about it. I remember being at a party in my early 30s where everyone started belting out a Coldplay song and I was probably the only person in the room who didn't know the words. The song I inexplicably know every lyric toI Swear by All-4-One. I was about 13 and had my first crush. I'd slow danced with him to this the night we met. Unfortunately, he lived in India. We would write letters – it was very romantic. I ended up completely obsessed with this song, I would listen on repeat. If it comes on, I act out the whole thing. It happened a couple of months ago; my kids were mortified. The song I can no longer listen toAnything from my first three albums. The first one came out when I was 17, but I recorded it when I was 16. I was given an incredible opportunity, but there is not the inner passion that makes it unique. I took a break and released Rise, my fourth album, when I was 24. From then on, I love what I was doing. The best song to have sex toCome Away With Me by Norah Jones. The funny thing is how many people over the decades have felt the need to tell me that my sister's first record is great to make love to. Clearly I'm not having sex to that record, but apparently it's a good one. The best song to play at a partyJimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja by Parvati Khan. There was a magic moment where Bollywood tied with early disco in such a perfect way in the 70s and 80s. If I put this on, without fail, everyone's up and dancing. The song that makes me cryStill Feel It All by Maro. This is sparse, there is a quality to her voice that is spacious, minimal, you hear the emotion, but it leaves space. It is a beautiful song. The song I want played at my funeralShanti-Mantra by Ravi Shankar, which has always been a favourite of my dad's. It means prayer for peace. It feels hallowed and uplifting. Anoushka Shankar's Chapter III: We Return to Light is out now. She is guest director of Brighton festival, 3 to 26 May.
