Cody Mauch on Bucs: 'Can't imagine there is a better OL room anywhere else'

The Bucs offensive line is not talked about as one of the best offensive lines in the NFL nearly as much as it should be. When you have the only player to be elected to the All-Pro team as both a left and right tackle, Tristan Wirfs, it elevates the group as a whole. Speaking with the media on Wednesday, starting guard Cody Mauch took the respect for his offensive line to a new level by offering up some praise to the unit as a whole. Mauch explained, "I don't have anything else to compare it to in the NFL cause I've only been here, but I can't imagine there's a better offensive line room anywhere else. Every single year we've been here, it's such a great group of guys. It doesn't really feel like you're coming into work, it just feels like you're coming to hang out with your buddies. Obviously, we're working, we're grinding here. It is a lot more fun when you enjoy the people that you're with. I wouldn't want to play with anybody else than these o-linemen." The Bucs drafted Mauch in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State. He was a part of the Senior Bowl that year, and he thrived in one-on-ones in Mobile, which helped his case in getting the attention of the NFL. Mauch, along with Luke Goedeke, is one of the few players without financial stability along the offensive line. He has gotten better each season so he should be on his way to an extension sooner rather than later.

LSU baseball adds talented transfer portal pitcher from heated SEC rival

LSU baseball continued to build its transfer portal class on Thursday. Hours after the Tigers picked up North Dakota State's Danny Lachenmayer, former Tennessee pitcher Ryler Smart joined the group. Smart, a 6-foot-4 lefty from Texas, redshirted with the Vols in 2025, meaning he comes to LSU with four years of eligibility remaining. Smart was ranked as the No. 25 left-handed pitcher in the class of 2024, according to Perfect Game. While Smart is talented enough to have a future in the starting rotation, expect Smart to be a part of LSU's bullpen in 2026. The Tigers' pen will get an overhaul next season with Casan Evans moving to the starting rotation and Chase Shores going to the next level. If Zac Cowan returns, LSU's top reliever in 2025, he's a strong candidate to join the rotation alongside Evans. Cowan was a starter at Wofford in 2024 before his transfer to LSU. That leaves head coach Jay Johnson in need of high-leverage bullpen arms. Smart has a chance to fill that role. Smart is LSU's fourth transfer of the cycle, joining Lachenmayer along with third basemen Brayden Simpson and Seth Darder.

LSU baseball adds elite relief pitcher from the transfer portal

LSU baseball continued its transfer portal reload on Thursday. Less than a week after winning a national championship, Jay Johnson and the Tigers earned a commitment from North Dakota State transfer pitcher Danny Lachenmayer. Lachenmayer is the third transfer addition of the cycle for LSU, joining infielders Seth Darder and Brayden Simpson. Lachenmayer, a lefty, worked as a reliever for NDSU in 2024. The Minnesota native tossed 38 innings with a 2.37 ERA. He was a strikeout machine, totaling 56 K's out of the pen. Lachenmayer allowed just 10 earned runs all year and recorded nine saves. LSU's 2026 bullpen will look different as Lachenmayer fills a key need. LSU is projected to bump Casan Evans into the starting rotation and lose Chase Shores to the MLB Draft. Zac Cowan also has a decision to make regarding the draft, and even if Cowan is back, there's a strong chance he's a starter. Lachenmayer gives Johnson and the Tigers a high-leverage arm with proven experience. North Dakota State made the NCAA Tournament this season, and Lachenmayer got to pitch in the regional, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings vs. quality competition. Lachenmayer broke the news with a post on social media.

Kyle Hess drives in four, including game-winner, and Creighton tops North Dakota State 11-10

Associated Press FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Kyle Hess delivered a walk-off single for his fourth RBI of the game and Creighton defeated North Dakota State 11-10 on Sunday to reach the championship round of the Fayetteville Regional. Creighton advanced to a showdown against regional host Arkansas later in the day. The Bluejays need to beat the Razorbacks Sunday night and again on Monday to win the regional and move on to the super regionals next weekend. Arkansas needs one win to advance. Hess hit a three-run home run in Creighton's five-run third inning that gave the Bluejays an 8-3 lead before North Dakota State rallied behind Dante Smith and Davis Hamilton. Hess's home run followed a two-run single by Dakota Duffalo. Creighton added two runs in the fourth inning on solo home runs by Nolan Sailors and Teddy Deters. The Bluejays did not score again until the ninth. Trailing 10-3 in the top of the sixth, North Dakota State rallied with an RBI single by Smith and a three-run home run by Hamilton. Smith and Hamilton came through again in the eighth when Smith's double to right scored two runs and Smith drove him in with a single to tie the game. Garrett Langrell (7-1) struck out the side in the ninth inning and got the win for Creighton. Danny Lachenmayer (2-4) allowed the winning single by Hess. ___ AP college sports:
