Ibra pilot project aims to turn homes into green spaces
Ibra – North Sharqiyah will launch a new community-driven environmental initiative on Sunday under the slogan 'Plant your home with us to make Ibra green', aimed at promoting sustainability and enhancing quality of life in the wilayat.
To be launched in cooperation with various government entities, municipal councils and volunteer teams, the initiative seeks to encourage residents to make use of their front and back yards to grow indigenous trees and plants. The move is expected to improve the local environment, reduce dust, moderate temperatures and raise environmental awareness in the community.
Officials overseeing the campaign confirmed that the pilot phase will begin in the neighbourhoods of Saih al Shakhabeet and Al Yahmidi. Several families and schools are already participating in the planting drive, which will be supervised by trained technical teams. The pilot phase will be assessed before expanding the campaign to other areas of the wilayat.
The campaign includes distribution of seedlings, shade trees and eco-friendly ornamental plants. It also features educational guidance on planting techniques and care in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and North Sharqiyah Municipality.
'Increasing green spaces in residential neighbourhoods will contribute not only to improving the aesthetic appeal of the area, but also play a vital role in mitigating climate change, enhancing environmental balance, and supporting residents' mental and physical well-being,' an official said.
The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040 objectives of environmental sustainability, particularly in developing smart and green cities and improving residential lifestyles to ensure a healthy and safe environment for future generations.
