Cookstown: Two rescued from flat after arson attack

Two people had to be rescued after an overnight arson attack on a flat in Cookstown, County Tyrone, police have said.A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were inside the property in Princess Avenue when an accelerant was poured through the letterbox on the front door and set removed the pair from the building and put out the blaze. Another fire at an outbuilding close to the property was also blaze was reported shortly after 00:50 BST on Sunday. A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service ( NIFRS) said the woman was taken out of a downstairs window, while the man was removed from the kitchen."The male and female were treated at the scene by colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, then taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation," said a police spokesperson."Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances and at this stage, the incident is being treated as deliberate ignition."

A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were unhurt after the front door of their Princess Avenue home in Cookstown was set alight shortly after midnight. A fire was also set at an outbuilding at the same property. The man and woman were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Detective Inspector Ryan said: 'Shortly after 12:50am, it was reported that accelerant was poured through the front door letterbox of a flat in the area and set alight. "A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s, who were inside the property, were taken to safety by colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service who also extinguished the fire. Another fire at an outbuilding close to the property was also extinguished. A beach in Ireland has been cordoned off by the authorities after the body of a man was discovered on Friday. The public is being asked to avoid Castlerock beach in Co Derry following the discovery the body. It is understood a man got into difficulty in the water. Three people have been taken to hospital following a single vehicle collision in Co Armagh. It's understood a car crashed into a house in Lurgan early on Friday morning. PSNI Sergeant Murray said officers responded to the incident which happened in the Kiln Road area at around 5.30am alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
