More sunshine, warmer temps Thursday in Minnesota amid air quality alert
Wildfire smoke will continue to spread into Minnesota on Thursday, with an air quality alert in effect until 11 p.m. Friday for most of the state. Any storms left over from Wednesday night around the Twin Cities will continue to fade and exit as high pressure nudges eastward. This will clear the clouds for some sunshine Thursday afternoon, helping highs reach the mid-80s. Aside from a few clouds, expect more sunshine Friday with highs a touch warmer in the upper 80s. The weekend looks to remain fairly tame with models only indicating isolated pop-ups storms across northern Minnesota each afternoon. Temperatures and humidity continue to climb with highs both days near 90 degrees. Looks like a slightly better chance for storms late Sunday with a little relief from the heat and humidity by mid-week.

Minnesota weather: Pleasant weekend in the Twin Cities, air quality alert in northern MN
The Brief Early morning clouds & fog linger behind last night's storms, but clear to patchy sunshine this afternoon. Smoke from wildfires in Canada is back for Northern Minnesota this weekend & has prompted an Air Quality Alert through Monday morning. Next week gets hot and very steamy with heat index values well into the 90s & several thunderstorm opportunities. MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - There will be pleasant summer temperatures for the weekend, with a steamy and stormy heat wave expected next week. Saturday and Saturday outlook Local perspective Early morning clouds and fog linger just a bit behind last night's storms as dew points hang in the upper 60s this Saturday morning. Clouds will gradually break into more of a partly cloudy sky, and dew points will settle into the more manageable mid-60s this afternoon as high temperatures cap out in the upper 70s. Unfortunately, the area of high pressure that is bringing the pleasant weekend is also being accompanied by some wildfire smoke from Canada that will reach the northern parts of the state. Code red to code purple air quality can be expected at times across the northern third of the state from Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night, and there is an air quality alert in effect during that time up north. The sun shines brightly for a lovely Sunday as dew points fall into the comfortable upper 50s. Extended forecast What's next It will quickly turn muggy and unsettled next week. Monday could begin with a few weakening rumbles moving out of the Dakotas as dew points begin to climb. But a legitimate tropical feeling heat wave begins on Tuesday as dew points soar into the 70s with highs in the mid to upper 80s. That leads to heat index values in the 90s for the middle of next week with several opportunities for unsettled storms. Josh Duhamel Says Living Off The Grid Prepped Him For New Tech Thriller
Josh Duhamel in "Off the Grid." Ransom Canyon star Josh Duhamel didn't have a rough time getting to know the set of his new film Off the Grid because the actor lives off the grid in real-life. Off the grid for Duhamel — a Minot, N.D. native — is the deep woods of Northern Minnesota, a state the acclaimed Transformers and Shotgun Wedding star and his family call their adopted home. Being in Minnesota also allows Duhamel to catch games of his pro sports favorites, including NFL's Minnesota Vikings and MLB's Minnesota Twins, each of which he's been cheering on for years. In return, Minnesota has embraced Duhamel, awarding him, for example, the 2024 North Star Award from the Twin Cities Film Fest, an honor reserved for actors who hail from the North Star state. Opening in select theaters and arriving on digital streaming via video on demand on Friday, Off the Grid is directed by Johnny Martin and written by Jim Agnew. In the film, Duhamel plays Guy, a brilliant scientist who is forced to go on the run after the unscrupulous company he is working for wants to use a groundbreaking mini cold fusion reactor for nefarious purposes. However, when company owner Belcor (Peter Stormare) and Guy's former mentor, Ranish (Greg Kinnear), locate Guy's whereabouts and send a strike team after him, the scientist has to spring into action. Using his technical wherewithal and survival skills of living off the grid, guy takes on his adversaries in ways they won't see coming. Josh Duhamel Is Unplugged But Locked And Loaded In 'Off The Grid' One benefit that Josh Duhamel didn't exactly expect was that living off the grid in Minnesota would come in quite handy while filming Off the Grid the movie. 'That's one of the reasons why I wanted to do it,' Duhamel said in a recent Zoom conversation, fittingly, from his home in the Northern Minnesota woods. 'I just felt really connected to this idea that Guy was forced to do this because he took his invention of cold fusion technology, which was intended to be free energy to the world, but the government wanted to weaponize it.' As such, Duhamel put his real-life experience of living a simple life far away from the rat race to good use. Thanks to a great tax rebate, Duhamel and director Johnny Martin found their ideal off the grid shooting location in Mississippi. 'Guy had to [embrace] the idea able to build this little life out of the way and unplugged from everything,' Duhamel explained. 'He finds peace in it but also a lot of loneliness and yearning for human connection and all those things. I think that if you're alone, doing this would be really tough. But that's what really drew me to this.' Another bonus is, that Duhamel gets to channel a bit of the character that Minnesota native Richard Dean Anderson made famous for seven seasons on ABC-TV from 1985 to 1992. '[I loved Guy's] innovation and ability MacGyver all these different gadgets. It was really fun,' Duhamel enthused. 'I love that I just thought that it was a great hook for the movie. So, I just love this world. I thought, 'What a great sort of contrast between this simple life and the industrial complex doing everything they can to use to find this guy, but run into a total David versus Goliath sort of situation.' NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 12: Josh Duhamel attends the Men's Health Lab hosted by Hearst Magazines ... More at Hearst Tower on June 12, 2025 in New York City. (Photo byfor Hearst Magazines) On top of utilitizing some MacGyver-type skills, Duhamel brings a bit of Sylvester Stallone's John Rambo to his character in Off the Grid in the way he faces off against the bad guys, even if wasn't intentional. 'I guess there's maybe a little bit [of Rambo in there], but I'm never gonna pretend that I'm Sylvester Stallone. That guy's a badass,' Duhamel said with a smile. 'He is more like a former Green Beret out there in Rambo: First Blood [Part II]." It was just an amazing movie. I guess I never really thought about it [with my character in Off the Grid]. From that point of view, I can see the similarities.' Duhamel, of course, lives a more peaceful existence off the grid away from acting and he hopes to visit his wooded getaway in Minnesota as often as he can. In the meantime, Duhamel is prepping his return to the Netflix hit Ransom Canyon, which was renewed for a second season this week and going into production in September. In the meantime, audiences can see Josh Duhamel in Off the Grid — which also stars María Elisa Camargo, Michael Zapesotsky, Ricky Russert and Michael Papajohn — which opens in select theaters on Friday and is available on Video on Demand.

Neighbors in northern Minnesota come together following devastating storm
Community members come together in northern Minnesota after severe weather Community members come together in northern Minnesota after severe weather Community members come together in northern Minnesota after severe weather A devastating storm ripped through northern Minnesota Friday night into Saturday bringing winds of over 100 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service's Grand Forks branch. Mayor Jorge Prince says Bemidji serves as a hub for roughly 60,000-65,000 residents within its limits and surrounding areas. He says each one of those people have been affected in one way or another. Nearly 48 hours after hurricane-force winds took over the town, a mother-son duo describe Bemidji. "Destroyed," said Aidan Hopkins while sitting with his mom about the way Bemidji was left after the storm. "It's unimaginable," said resident Jake Schultz. "We don't have much shade left that's for sure" "It tore up trees, it destroyed businesses," said Prince. "It really tore our city upside down." Residents are learning day in and day out how to deal with storm recovery. "We got lucky in a lot of ways. It could've been a lot worse," said Darcy Douglas who lives near the center of the city. Douglas told WCCO a tree fell through her roof and into the room where her niece sleeps. Her niece was not there at the time. "Knowing what to do next. Nothing like this has ever happened before," said Douglas when asked what the hardest part has been. "I have no idea what I'm supposed to do." Beltrami County and the City of Bemidji declared a state of emergency within 24 hours of the storm. "You re-meet all your neighbors again," said Tom Smith as he removed a tree off his home. "We're out here talking about what happened at your place or whatever." Some residents say they have no power, water or food. Yet, they say they aren't letting mother nature's power stop them. Instead, they're all coming together and lending each other a helping hand. "We're all okay!" said Sue Lund, who was also dealing with tree removal. "It's a team effort," her husband Charles Lund added. The Red Cross says it's offering a 24-hour shelter at the Stanford Center, the arena and convention center in town. "I cried all day yesterday, and off and on today," Douglas told WCCO. "I'm not sure that our city's ever going to look the same," said Prince. "As far as getting our structures repaired, roads open, many many weeks here." The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners announced a special meeting for June 23 to discuss the destruction. If you're looking to help, the North Country Food Bank, Red Cross and United Way are assisting the community.
