Norway Seafood Exports Increased in June on Salmon Growth
Stronger salmon exports to China contributed to an increase in Norwegian seafood exports in June, following a decline in the value of fish sent abroad last month. Norway exported 13.2 billion kroner ($1.3 billion) worth of seafood in June, up 9% from a year earlier, the Norwegian Seafood Council said on Thursday. The Nordic nation shipped 110,000 metric tons of salmon in the month, making up about 70% of total seafood exports by value. Norway is the world's largest producer of farmed salmon.

A slump in salmon prices in May contributed to the first annual drop in Norwegian seafood exports after 10 months of growth as production of the pink-fleshed fish rose. Norway exported 13.6 billion kroner ($1.3 billion) worth of seafood in May, down 2% from a year earlier, the Norwegian Seafood Council said on Wednesday. Reduced volumes for clipfish and a stronger krone against the dollar also contributed to the decline.

Sales to the US made up about 11% of the 44 billion kroner ($4.2 billion) of seafood exported out of Norway in the first three months of the year — a record for that period, the Norwegian Seafood Council said in a statement on Thursday.
