Elon Musk's long-awaited drive-in diner in Hollywood has finally opened

Well, we all knew it was coming: the Tesla diner and drive-in in Hollywood is finally opening after several years of construction and permitting delays. According to Tesla-focused blog Not a Tesla App, the Texas-based electric car company held a preview event for first responders over the weekend complete with several Optimus unit walking around on-site. (It's unclear if the diner will actually employ said Tesla robots as servers.) Ah, to be alive in 2025! Elon Musk's pet project was first announced to the public back in 2022, well before the South African-born tech billionaire began dabbling in politics and gutted several federal agencies through the Department of Government Efficiency. (More recently, he's started his own political party with former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang.) The now-controversial Tesla diner went without a culinary lead for some time before ghost kitchen chef Eric Greenspan was hired to oversee the menu earlier this year. The project also caused local backlash when Margarita and Walter Manzke, the co-owners of L.A.'s award-winning République voiced support for the diner. As previously reported, the new Tesla diner will feature approximately 80 V4 chargers—the fastest charging stations available on the market—as well as a drive-in movie theater. The entire structure has a retro-futuristic feel, with plenty of curved lines and metallic accents. Per photos from tech blog Techeblog, the indoor dining area features a curved counter and neon lighting. A rooftop dining area, visible from the street, will be available for anyone who wants to leave their cars for their meal. Not a Tesla App reports that Tesla owners will be able to order food directly from their cars through a proprietary app and stream whatever movie's playing on the screens inside their cars. In terms of food, expect traditional fast food fare courtesy of chef Eric Greenspan. This includes burgers, fries, chicken wings, hot dogs, milkshakes and other handhelds. Early images reveal a Cybertruck-shaped burger container, plus diner-exclusive merch, plus various items of Tesla memorabilia from over the years. Highlights include an Optimus robot action figure with its own tiny container of fries. Despite the political lightning rod that is Musk, media outlets have been quick to scope out the latest updates on the Tesla diner. Yesterday, Forbes contributor Brooke Crothers captured footage of the Tesla's parking lot on Sunday, July 20, which includes 50 V4 chargers in a backlot area.

Tesla shakes automotive world with announcement regarding major US facility: 'Nearing completion'

Tesla is moving closer to opening its first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery factory in the United States. The company recently posted a video on X of the factory, located in Sparks, Nevada. In the caption, Tesla said it is "nearing completion" of the facility, which Not a Tesla App reported will manufacture battery cells for Tesla energy projects such as Megapack and Powerwall. LFP batteries are growing in popularity, with manufacturing plants starting to pop up across the globe. Unlike other common batteries, LFPs don't use nickel or cobalt, which makes them lighter, less expensive, and less likely to catch fire. And because those metals don't need to be mined, producing LFP batteries is also a more eco-friendly process. Previous incarnations of LFP batteries weren't powerful enough to replace other battery types, but recent improvements have made them viable alternatives. Until now, Tesla has used Chinese suppliers for LFP battery cells. Plans for the Nevada factory were originally leaked in early 2024, and the company confirmed them during its first-quarter earnings call this year while also discussing the importance of energy storage to the company's future. "The importance of this business … is pretty profound," Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja said during that call. "In order for grids to work properly with the demands from AI, you need some more stability." Domestic production of LFP batteries has the potential to be a game-changer, not just for projects like Megapack and Powerwall, but also for electric vehicles. If battery costs come down significantly, cars will also become more affordable, which could put more EVs on the road instead of polluting, gas-powered vehicles. That would be welcome news for Tesla, which has seen its sales numbers drop significantly this year. The type of energy used to charge batteries can also have a huge impact on EV ownership costs. Using home-based solar energy, for example, is considerably cheaper than paying for energy from the grid or using public charging stations. To amplify those savings, EnergySage offers a free tool that enables consumers to compare quotes from local, verified solar panel installers while saving up to $10,000 on installation costs. Tesla reportedly preps game-changing upgrade to its vehicles: 'Could be as much as 10 times more capable'

The electric vehicle market is booming, and upgrades within the Tesla universe could bring us closer to an autonomous vehicle future and more powerful cars. According to Not a Tesla App, Tesla is planning to upgrade its Full Self-Driving hardware to 10 times the power of the previous iteration. The new tech, called AI5, may be manufactured by both Samsung and the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. "Tesla is preparing for the production of its new AI5 FSD computer with a performance target of 2,000 to 2,500 trillion operations per second," Not a Tesla App reported. "... During a past earnings call, [CEO] Elon [Musk] claimed AI5 could be as much as 10 times more capable than HW4, which would imply an astronomical 5,000 TOPS." TOPS is the measurement used to assess the notional optimal performance of AI hardware, essentially detailing the capabilities of various artificial intelligence accelerators. While the increase in Tesla's TOPS target would mean faster, smarter cars, gearing the company up to scale up its robotaxi endeavor, it would also require more power. That's where Gigafactories come in, as they house supercomputers to train the AI. Automated cars, or FSD models, are huge for Tesla right now after the company dropped to low points as Musk's activity within the Trump administration led many to bail on the brand and even protest it. The benefits are nearly endless when it comes to switching to an EV. Not only can you save tons of money by not having to refill gas or change oil, but you also won't be pumping pollution from those dirty fuels into the air from your tailpipe. The planet, and your wallet, will thank you. To optimize your savings from EV ownership, solar panels can fuel your vehicle cheaper than using public charging stations or relying on the grid, bringing your monthly cost down to near $0. EnergySage makes it easy to compare quotes from vetted local installers and save up to $10,000 on a solar installation. If purchasing solar panels is out of your budget, Palmetto's LightReach leasing program will install panels for no money down and let you lock in low energy rates. Tesla Adds iPhone Lock Screen Charging Updates and Child Detection Feature

Tesla's latest iOS update brings a highly requested feature to iPhone users: real-time Supercharging updates directly on the lock screen. According to Not a Tesla App, the update utilises Apple's Live Activities capability, which allows supported apps to deliver live status updates without unlocking the phone. This new feature lets Tesla owners monitor key Supercharging metrics at a glance, including time remaining, charge percentage, estimated cost, charging speed, and energy added. It offers added convenience and helps users avoid idle fees by notifying them when it's time to move the vehicle. However, the feature currently only applies to Tesla's Supercharger stations and does not support home or third-party charging. Tesla has added support for Live Activities on iOS with app update 4.45.0. If you're going to Supercharge tonight, send us a screenshot! Let us know if you notice any undocumented features as — Not a Tesla App (@NotATeslaApp) May 27, 2025 Available now through Tesla app version 4.45.0, this is one of the app's most notable enhancements since Tesla enabled Apple Watch digital key support late last year. Alongside the iOS upgrade, Tesla is also launching a 'Child Left Alone' detection feature for select vehicles. The system uses in-cabin radar to sense if a child has been left unattended. Initially rolling out in Europe for the updated Model 3 (mid-2023 and later), the feature represents a significant step forward in vehicle safety. It will notify the owner if a child is detected after exiting the car. Tesla's radar system, which currently detects passengers in front seats without relying on traditional seat sensors, is now extending its reach to monitor the back seat. The company says broader rollout to additional models and markets is expected 'later.' These updates reflect Tesla's ongoing commitment to improving both user experience and safety through software innovation.

Drone photos from Tesla factory hint at secret progress on long-awaited Cybercab: 'I predict there will be millions'

New photos taken from a Tesla factory seem to show that work is progressing on the company's future Cybercab. As reported by Not a Tesla App, the photos were taken by Joe Tegtmeyer (@JoeTegtmeyer), who frequently takes drone images of Tesla's Giga Texas facility. These came from the factory's casting machine area, with many indications showing that they could be for the upcoming driverless taxi. Tegtmeyer pointed out on the social media platform X that the castings don't look like Tesla's Model Y or Cybertruck, which normally come out of Giga Texas, as they are flatter and of a different size. Many commenters and reporters then noted the castings say "RTTX," which could mean "Robotaxi Texas." Cybertruck castings, for reference, say "CTTX." Other images seemed to show new parts for a Giga Press, which are the machines used to make Tesla castings. As Not a Tesla App pointed out, those machines are specialized for their exact vehicle, so new parts could indicate that production of a new model will soon begin. During his first-quarter earnings call with investors, Tesla CEO Elon Musk didn't give a lot of details on the Cybercab, but he did say the project is on track. He added that autonomous Model Ys, which will act as robotaxis, should be on the streets of Austin, Texas, by June. "I predict there will be millions of Teslas operating autonomously, fully autonomously, in the second half of next year," Musk said in April's Q1 earnings call. Previously, company officials have said the Cybercab will hold two passengers and feature wireless charging. Any positive movement on the Cybercab would be welcomed news for the electric vehicle pioneer, which has hit some roadblocks in the rollout of its autonomous Full Self-Driving technology in other markets and faced some other challenges this year. On that same investors call, Musk shared the company's first-quarter results, which showed a 20% year-over-year decline in auto revenue and a 71% drop in net income. Also during that first quarter, global sales numbers fell drastically, and Tesla's stock price lost more than one-third of its value. The fact that other automakers have introduced their own EVs to market is certainly a factor. However, Musk's increased involvement in politics has also played a role, damaging brand trust and pushing some buyers to explore their options as they seek more cost-effective and eco-friendly vehicles compared to traditional gas-guzzlers.
