Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

With hearts full of gratitude and devotion, the parish community of Sacred Heart Kota Sentosa celebrated the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus with great solemnity, unity, and joy from 18-28 June, 2025. Jul 29, 2025 Solemnity of Sacred Heart and Gawai Thanksgiving Mass. By SHC Multimedia With hearts full of gratitude and devotion, the parish community of Sacred Heart Kota Sentosa celebrated the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus with great solemnity, unity, and joy from 18-28 June, 2025. The spiritual journey commenced with the Novena to the Sacred Heart, which was prayed daily from 18-28 June, immediately following weekday Masses and 30 minutes prior to weekend Masses. Through these nine days of prayer, parishioners prepared their hearts to deepen their love and trust in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who serves as the source of mercy, grace, and peace. The celebration continued with three days of Triduum Masses from 24-26 June, each marked with a special theme and liturgical significance: In joyful preparation for the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacred Heart Church Kota Sentosa held this solemn Triduum to lead the faithful into deeper reflection on the love and mercy that flow from the Heart of Christ. The Triduum began on 24 June, coinciding with the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. The Mass was celebrated by His Grace Archbishop Emeritus John Ha, with Fr Felix Au and Fr Lucas Ng concelebrating. The evening concluded with a time of Eucharistic Adoration, drawing the congregation into silent awe before the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. On the second day, 25 June, the parish commemorated the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Year A). The Mass was presided over by Rev Fr John Chong, with Fr Felix Au concelebrating. This was again followed by Eucharistic Adoration—a grace-filled encounter with the infinite love of Jesus, who invites all to find rest in His Sacred Heart. The final night of the Triduum, on 26 June, marked the celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Year B). Fr Felix Au and Fr Paul Hu led the faithful in the Eucharistic celebration. The evening culminated in a reverent procession of the statue of the Sacred Heart around the church compound. This visible act of devotion symbolised Christ's reign over our lives, our parish, and our families. The Triduum was a sacred journey of faith, preparing our hearts to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart with renewed love, unity, and trust in His divine mercy. On the feast day itself on 27 June, the celebration was made more meaningful with the Blessing of the Immaculate Heart Centre and the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, presided by His Grace, Archbishop Simon Poh. The newly blessed centre—formerly the old chapel—now houses a multipurpose hall, gallery, Room A and B, pantry, and other parish facilities. It will serve as a vibrant hub for faith formation and parish activities. This was followed by the Solemnity Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, combined with the Gawai Thanksgiving Mass, a meaningful way to honour both our Catholic faith and local cultural heritage. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Simon Poh and concelebrated by Fr Felix Au, Fr Paul Hu, Fr Lucas Ng, Fr Don Don Ramarez, Fr Nelson, and Fr Martin Then. After Mass, the parish community gathered in fellowship and joy with a pot-bless dinner at the Church entrance, bringing together the fruits of communion and celebration. The celebrations culminated in a formal fellowship dinner at Li Garden Restaurant, CityOne, attended by Archbishop Simon Poh, clergy, and parishioners on 28 June. The evening was enriched by cultural performances by the Chinese Junior Legion of Mary, representatives from kampungs, and various ministries. A notable highlight was the video documentary that chronicled the history and growth of Sacred Heart Church, serving as a poignant reminder of God's unwavering providence and the unwavering commitment of the parish community throughout the years. Deeply rooted in the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we, the parish family of Sacred Heart Kota Sentosa, are empowered by the Holy Spirit to lead, serve, and proclaim the Gospel. Inspired by His mercy and compassion, we aspire to cultivate communion, worship with fervour, deepen our faith, and live out our mission with courage and passion each day. This year's feast transcended mere events; it was a profound encounter with Christ's love. From novenas and liturgies to fellowship and blessings, the Feast of the Sacred Heart 2025 underscored that Jesus continues to draw us into His embrace, compelling us to love one another as He has loved us.--Today's Catholic

Over 10,000 Catholics join St Anne feast night procession in Bukit Mertajam

BUKIT MERTAJAM: More than 10,000 Catholic devotees filled the grounds of the Minor Basilica of St Anne for the annual Feast of St Anne night procession, marking the pinnacle of a 10-day religious celebration. The event, the largest of its kind in Malaysia, saw participants gather from early evening for Mass before the candlelit procession began at 8.30pm. The procession featured a float carrying the statue of St Anne and her daughter Mary, with devotees walking alongside while holding candles. The 1.6 km route passed through Jalan Kulim, Jalan Kampung Baru, and Jalan Berjaya before returning to the church at 11pm. For many, the event was a time to fulfill vows and seek divine intervention. R Thivya Bharti, 32, attended with her family after her husband recovered from illness last year. 'We prayed for his health, and by God's grace, he was healed. Now we're here to give thanks and pray for another child,' she said. Diana Blomindas, 29, from Ipoh, noted the celebrations were livelier this year, with more stalls and visitors. She recalled attending since childhood and came this year to pray for her mother's healing from knee pain. Valentina Kaur, 28, and her husband joined the procession to express gratitude after conceiving following years of prayers. 'I prayed for a child in March, and two months later, I was pregnant. Tonight, we give thanks and pray for a smooth pregnancy,' she shared. The feast, themed 'Celebrating, Listening and Walking as Pilgrims of Hope,' began on July 18 with nine days of Novena prayers. The Minor Basilica, built in the 1800s, is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and was elevated to basilica status in 2019. - Bernama

Do Singapore's insurers and private hospitals need a rethink as costs surge?

A major insurer in Singapore has suspended pre-treatment approval for policyholders seeking treatment in two private hospitals due to high costs, in a case that has prompted scrutiny of the city state's reputable healthcare industry. Great Eastern's move has spurred industry experts to call for calibrated adjustments to the healthcare insurance system involving the key stakeholders instead of an overhaul, and greater data transparency to help policyholders make informed decisions as expenses continue to rise across the industry. Last month, Great Eastern announced it would stop issuing pre-authorisation certificates for policyholders admitted to Mount Elizabeth hospitals in Novena and Orchard owing to what it said were high costs at the two facilities. Pre-authorisation refers to the insurer's approval of coverage for medical costs before treatment. The certificates minimise the upfront cash deposit needed for certain costs such as hospitalisation and surgical expenses, doctors' fees, tests conducted in hospital and some outpatient treatments by having the insurer settle these pre-approved expenses directly with the hospital. Without the certificates, patients may have to foot the bill for their treatments first before filing a claim with the insurer for assessment. Great Eastern told local media it observed that over the past few years 'certain private hospitals have been charging significantly more for similar treatment' and that the move was part of 'ongoing efforts to manage rising healthcare costs and ensure long-term affordability for all policyholders'.
