Turkiye to develop Iraq's partnership after PKK disarmament
Shafaq News – Ankara/Baghdad On Tuesday, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş declared that eradicating all militant groups acting as 'imperialist proxies' in Iraq and Turkiye would mark the beginning of a new era of strategic partnership and sweeping regional transformation. Speaking at a joint press conference with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al- Mashhadani in Ankara, Kurtulmuş emphasized that achieving a 'terror-free Turkiye' would bring lasting stability to the wider region, a goal that demands unified determination from all nations. He welcomed Iraq's support for intensified counter-terrorism cooperation, especially in light of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) decision to disarm and dissolve, following an appeal by its imprisoned leader Abdullah Ocalan. Kurtulmuş also spotlighted the Development Road project—linking the Gulf to Europe via Iraq and Turkiye—as a clear sign of growing regional integration. Additionally, he underlined the impact of recent high-level visits, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's trip to Iraq last year and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's visit to Turkiye in May 2025, both of which resulted in significant agreements and diplomatic progress.

Turkey: Israeli Government Pose Threat to World Peace
Ankara - Saba: Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş stressed that the Israeli government, which seeks to resolve all its problems through massacres and violence without negotiations, poses a major threat to world peace. Kurtulmuş said at a joint press conference held Tuesday with his Georgian counterpart, Shalva Papuashvili, in the capital, Ankara, that "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his gang have begun launching attacks on Iran with the aim of expanding and deepening the war to cover up the crimes they have committed in Palestine." He added that the attacks on Iran are a risky move aimed at removing the Gaza issue from the international agenda and entrenching instability in the region. He emphasized that Turkey seeks to resolve issues through peace, diplomacy, and negotiation, adding that "the existence of an Israeli government that seeks to resolve all its problems through massacres and violence without negotiations poses a major threat to world peace." Kurtulmuş noted that Turkey calls on everyone to stop the Israeli-Iranian war as soon as possible and put an end to the Israeli aggression. He added, "It is imperative that the international community prevent the Israeli government's aggression (against Iran) before it's too late and before the world is drawn into a larger conflict." He emphasized that Turkey will continue to work to establish an international order based on peace, security, and justice for all humanity. Since dawn on Friday, Israel, with US support, has launched an aggression against Iran, bombing nuclear facilities and missile bases and assassinating military leaders and nuclear scientists, leaving 224 dead and 1,277 wounded. Tehran has responded with ballistic missiles and drones, leaving approximately 24 dead and hundreds wounded. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)

Turkish Parliament speaker: Trump wants to overturn global trade mechanisms
Ankara - Saba: Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş said that US President Donald Trump wants to "change the mechanisms" of global trade, which will lead to an imbalance and spark conflict. Sabah newspaper quoted Kurtulmuş as saying, "In essence, Trump wants not only to raise tariffs but also to upend existing mechanisms for global trade. Interfering in such extensive global trade mechanisms will undoubtedly create new imbalances and conflicts in global trade. Relatively low tariffs may be preferable for Turkey compared to other countries, but I don't see this as a significant or unique opportunity for Turkey." Earlier, Milliyet newspaper reported, citing sources, that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan intends to discuss imposing new tariffs on Turkey with the United States in May. According to the newspaper, there is a possibility of their gradual implementation. On Saturday, Türkiye newspaper reported, citing some experts, that Chinese producers may redirect some of their supplies to the Turkish market after the United States imposed record tariffs. In the short term, this is likely to lead to lower prices in Turkey, but Turkish producers may suffer later. Last Wednesday, the US President signed a decree imposing "reciprocal" tariffs on imports from other countries, with a base minimum tariff of 10%, while most countries will face higher rates.
