Tour bus driver remanded over Ayer Hitam fatal crash
BATU PAHAT: The tour bus driver involved in the fatal accident at Km80.7 of the North-South Expressway southbound near Ayer Hitam has been remanded for three days by the Magistrate's Court today. The remand order, effective from today until Sunday, was issued by magistrate Nurasidah A. Rahman to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The accident claimed the lives of two Indonesian plantation workers. The vehicle transporting the 35-year-old suspect, dressed in a black T-shirt, arrived at the court at 8.30am. He was accompanied by traffic police officers and was seen leaving about an hour later. Yesterday, two Indonesian men, identified as Hidirman, 43, and Zulhadi, 44, died at the scene and 16 others were injured after being trapped in the wreckage when a tour bus collided with two vehicles at Km80.7 of the North-South Expressway southbound near Ayer Hitam shortly after midnight. Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohamad Shamin Mohamed Salikin, said the station received an emergency call at 12.44am. "The crash involved a tour bus, a tow truck and a tanker lorry. Rescue personnel found the two men trapped inside the bus and confirmed them dead at the scene," he said in a statement.

Father remanded over alleged 11-year sexual abuse of two daughters
SLUG:REMUND Alias Abd Rani With Pic/Vid BATU PAHAT: A 44-year-old palm oil worker was remanded for seven days after he allegedly raped his two daughters for the past 11-years, with the latest incident suspected occurring last month. Magistrate Nurasidah A. Rahman, issued the remand order today to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. According to police reports, the assaults occurred at the family's residence and in a palm oil farm shack, involving his two daughters aged 16 and 17. One victim, now 17, claimed she was assaulted since she was six years old, with the most recent incident occurring last month. The other girl, aged 16, was also allegedly sexually assaulted in 2022. The case was uncovered after the victims confided in a teacher, prompting school authorities and police to act. Initial investigations suggested the assaults took place while the mother was asleep at home. The suspect's wife, 43, was unaware of the abuse as the suspect allegedly threatened the victims to stay silent. Their father is said to have a volatile temper, threatened to beat the victims, which made them afraid to disobey him. In an unrelated case, a 15-year-old secondary school boy was also remanded for seven days on suspicion of sodomising a boy who was his classmate six times since last year. The suspect was detained after the victims' parents lodged a report claiming he had threatened their child.

Man remanded after allegedly stabbing uncle in row over gossip
BATU PAHAT: A 35-year-old man has been remanded for three days after allegedly stabbing his uncle five times with a kitchen knife following a heated argument. According to the report lodged, the incident occurred at the man's home in Semerah when his 52-year-old uncle confronted him, accusing him of badmouthing the latter. The confrontation took place in the kitchen, where the suspect, a grass cutter, was with his younger brother preparing and cutting vegetables. The situation escalated when the uncle allegedly grabbed a mortar to hit the suspect. In response, the man is said to have grabbed a knife and stabbed his uncle in the shoulder and left wrist. The victim sustained five stab wounds and was rushed to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and reported to be in stable condition. The suspect's younger brother reportedly attempted to break up the fight. The suspect claimed he acted in self-defence, fearing he would be attacked with the mortar. He was brought before the magistrates' court here today and remanded for three days by Magistrate Nurasidah A. Rahman for investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code. The offence is non-bailable and carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any combination of the three, upon conviction.
