Man charged with sexually assaulting own daughters
SEREMBAN: A 45-year-old man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to three counts of commiting physical sexual assault against his two young daughters. The accused, who works as a shop assistant, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before Judge Surita Budin on Wednesday (July 9). For the first two counts, he was charged with committing the offences against his elder daughter when she was 12 in 2022 and again the following year. He allegedly committed the offences at their rented flat in Senawang between 1am and 2am. For the third charge, he allegedly committed a similar act against his 10-year-old daughter at the same place at around 1am early this year. The accused was charged under Section 14(a) and (b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi then offered the accused bail of RM20,000 for each charge pending mention. She also asked that the accused be ordered to stay away from the victims, to report at the nearest police station once every month till the case is disposed of and to surrender his passport to the court, if he had one. She said the alleged victims were now under the care of their mother in Johor. The couple split in 2018. The accused who was unrepresented asked for a low bail as he could not raise the proposed amount. He also told the court he was bankrupt and had defaulted on rent and utility bills. Judge Surita then allowed bail of RM39,000 for all three charges and fixed Aug 11 for mention and to allow the accused to appoint counsel.

Sexual assault case against Seremban teacher fixed for mention on June 17
SEREMBAN: The Sessions Court here has fixed June 17 to mention the case of a 45-year-old counselling teacher facing charges of committing physical sexual assault against two pupils and a third charge for having pornographic material in his laptop. Judge Surita Budin made the decision on Wednesday (May 21) after deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi told the court the related medical reports were not ready. "The case will be mentioned on June 17 and bail is hereby extended," she said. On Feb 2, the accused had claimed trial to all three charges. For the first and second charges, he was accused of committing the offences against two 11-year-old boys at a school in Seremban 2. The alleged offences took place in the counselling room in Sept and May 2023. The accused was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same law. Offenders can be jailed for up to 20 years and whipped upon conviction. For the third, he was charged with having 180 photographs and clips of children being sexually abused on his laptop. He was charged with allegedly committing the offence at a house in Taman Warisan Puteri on Dec 12, 2023. He was charged under Section 10 of the same Act, which carries a penalty of up to five years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction. The accused is out on a RM30,000 bail.

Mum claims trial to choking, slapping 20-month-old daughter
SEREMBAN: A 35-year-old woman pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of abusing her 20-month-old daughter by choking and slapping her earlier this year. The accused entered her plea before Judge Datin Surita Budin after the charge was read out in court. According to the charge sheet, the woman is accused of physically abusing the toddler by choking her and slapping her on the cheek, resulting in injury. The alleged offence took place at 4am on FEb 28 at a house in Taman Sentul, Jalan Besar, Mantin. Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. Nurul Balkis informed the court that the woman is believed to have mental health issues and requested that she be referred for psychiatric evaluation under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The court set June 19 for the outcome of the psychiatric assessment. In a separate case in Perak, a 13-month-old boy was discovered with bruises on multiple parts of his body, allegedly inflicted by his babysitter on Monday (May 19). The incident came to light when the child's parents brought him, in a weakened state, to Hospital Seri Iskandar for treatment. Perak Tengah district police chief Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said a report was received from a doctor at the hospital's Emergency Department at 5.21pm.

Seremban p-hailing rider charges with two counts of raping uneraged girlfriend
SEREMBAN: A p-hailing rider claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to two charges of raping his girlfriend who was two months short of her sixteenth birthday. The rider pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before Judge Surita Budin. He was charged with committing the offences between 11pm and 11.30pm at a house in Nilai on Jan 11 and 18. The accused was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi told the court the prosecution was offering the accused bail of RM10,000 for each charge. She said the accused should also stay away from the victim and report at the nearest police station once a month till the case is disposed of. The accused who was unrepresented pleaded for a lower bail as he only earned RM1,500 a month. He said he was the third of eight siblings and provided for some of them. Judge Surita then fixed bail at RM9,000 with one surety for both charges. She also allowed the other applications by the prosecution. The court then set June 17 for mention.
