Drake Appears to Call Out Friends Who Didn't Stand by Him in Aftermath of Kendrick Lamar Beef on New Song 'What Did I Miss?'

Drake has released a new single — "What Did I Miss?" — in which he seemingly calls out the friends who didn't stand by his side The track arrives more than a year after his public lyrical sparring with Kendrick Lamar "Last time I looked to my right, you n----s was standing beside me / How can some people I love hang around p------ who try me," Drake raps on the new trackDrake is seemingly reflecting on the aftermath of his public back-and-forth with Kendrick Lamar — and he's making it clear how he feels about those he apparently lost along the way. On Friday, July 4, the 38-year-old musician released the new single "What Did I Miss?" as part of his 'Iceman: Episode 1' livestream, alongside an apparent message for the friends who didn't take his side amid the high-profile hip-hop feud. In the track, the OVO Sound founder offers some words for the "traitors" in his life, and he appears to name-drop Lamar's June 2024 The Pop Out concert in Los Angeles — the one where Lamar performed his diss track "Not Like Us" five times back-to-back. "I don't give a f--- if you love me, I don't give a f--- if you like me," Drake opens his new song. "Askin' me, 'How did it feel?' Can't say it didn't surprise me / Last time I looked to my right, you n----s was standing beside me / How can some people I love hang around p------ who try me?" After the first verse of "What Did I Miss?" — in which Drake declares, "Love for my brothers and death to a traitor" — he elaborates in the second verse. "I'm back in your city tonight, walkin' around with my head high / I saw bro went to Pop Out with them, but been d--- riding gang since 'Headlines,' " he raps, referencing his 2011 Take Care single. "It feels like nobody's there until you start givin' out two-tones / And nobody cares until they in front of your tombstone / Y'all been on that type of timing for too long," he continues. Drake paired his new single with a visual, featuring himself posing with dozens of what appear to be weapons near a pool, before dancing in a warehouse of ice. Drake's latest comments come more than a year after his beef with Lamar, 38, resulted in the release of several disses from both parties, including Lamar's Grammy-winning track "Not Like Us." Former Drake collaborators Future, Metro Boomin and Rick Ross were among those also involved in the exchange of diss tracks in 2024 — as other collaborators appeared at Lamar's Pop Out concert that June. Since then, Drake has taken legal action against Universal Music Group in the months that followed the release and promotion of "Not Like Us," alleging that the song defamed him. UMG has denied the accusations that it intentionally tried to harm Drake's career. Since then, Drake has released his first album since the feud, his collaborative effort with PartyNextDoor, $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U, which spawned hit single "Nokia." $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U, released in February, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, while "Nokia" peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in April. Drake Declares ‘F-ck Hollywood and the Hamptons' on Smiley's ‘2 Mazza'

Drake appears on OVO Sound signee Smiley's new song '2 Mazza.' The two Canadian artists' track comes in the middle of Drake's foe Kendrick Lamar taking over Toronto's Rogers Centre this week on his Grand National Tour with SZA. '2 Mazza' is heavy on the Toronto slang and locale shoutouts, with the song's title even pulling from a popular phrase that means 'too crazy.' In the first verse, Drake recalls his humble beginnings, growing up with little money with his mom Sandra: 'I remember pushin' DT with the mandem, whipping two Mazdas (Double M)/Grocery shoppin' at Royal York Plaza/Me and lil' Sandra was broke on the Gaza.' As the song goes on, Drake declares 'fuck Hollywood and the Hamptons,' preferring Ontario instead. It was Lamar's first time performing his chart-topping, Grammy-winning Drake diss 'Not Like Us' in Drake's hometown, and the reception was massive. The audience gave the song a two-minute ovation before begging him to perform it one more time, though he did not oblige. '2 Mazza' appears on Smiley's new album Don't Box Me In, out now. He and Drake previously had a hit together in 2021 with 'Over the Top.' Drake and Smiley Team up on New Track "2 Mazza"

Summary The highly anticipated collaboration between OVO Sound'sSmileyand label headDrake, titled '2 Mazza,' arrived earlier today. Both Toronto rappers come together for the joint effort, marking the first since their successful 2021 hit 'Over the Top.' '2 Mazza' immediately distinguishes itself by leaning into authentic Toronto street lexicon. The phrase 'mazza' itself, used to describe a 'crazy situation' or a chaotic scenario, becomes a central theme, woven into the fabric of the song's narrative. Smiley leads the charge with vivid, street-level storytelling, reflecting on his come-up and navigating the complexities of his environment. His signature, somewhat laconic yet impactful delivery, often described as a 'one-of-a-kind flow' with a distinctive 'cartoonish Snaggletooth wheeze,' provides a raw and unfiltered perspective over a hypnotic, R&B-infused beat. The song is part of Smiley's first album in three years, titledDon't Box Me In. Drake's verse on '2 Mazza' serves as a complementary counterpoint, mirroring Smiley's ascent while also showcasing his own journey from humble beginnings to present-day opulence. His presence on the track not only lends significant star power but also reinforces his long-standing commitment to nurturing talent within his OVO Sound imprint and putting Toronto's unique voice on the global stage. '2 Mazza' is more than just a song; it's a cultural moment, a sonic snapshot that brings local Toronto slang to a global audience, all under the influential co-sign of one of music's biggest names. Kai Cenat and Drake to stream and collaborate on a music video

American streaming sensation Kai Cenat and Canadian rapper Drake will be on a live stream together on June 12. They will be reviewing submissions for a contest the pair hosted to find concepts for Drake's, Somebody Loves Me music video. Drake's latest album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U , was created in collaboration with singer and songwriter PartyNextDoor. PartyNextDoor also happens to be the first artist Drake signed to his OVO Sound music label. The trap soul duo invited up-and-coming directors to pitch their best motifs and concepts for the video. The talent search, launched by Drake and PartyNextDoor, invited aspiring directors to pitch ideas for the video, with 20 winners receiving $15 000 each (267 424.50 ZAR) to bring their concepts to life. This whole thing first came to be when a sizeable portion of the live stream chat on Cenat's popular Twitch stream said they felt the last video Drake released was subpar. The rapper then insisted they direct his next one. The 20 chosen creators will contribute a short clip ranging between 30 seconds to a minute each. These will be stitched together and curated by Cenat and his collective Any Means Possible (AMP). Submissions for the contest closed on May 24, with both Cenat and Drake raving about some entries and critiquing others. The rise of social media has meshed with the music industry, with TikTok challenges garnering artists critical acclaim in this era. A slightly more artful approach has been what streamers and YouTubers have been able to cultivate. Drake has been making a point of joining streamers for sessions and locally we have even seen rappers like Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C embrace Twitch. None more so than Cenat. He has become somewhat of an authority on newer music tastes because of his widely enjoyed reviews. This collaboration surprises fans. Cenat was unexpectedly mentioned in Drake's lawsuit against Universal Music Group involving his globally recognised defeat to Kendrick Lamar, last year. So far, the mood between the two appears to be amicable. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 11.
