Liam Gallagher apologises for tweeting 'disgusting racial slur and insists he does not discriminate' following huge backlash from 'disappointed' fans - just days ahead of Oasis reunion
Liam Gallagher has issued a public apology to fans after sparking outrage for tweeting a racial slur. The singer, 52, is only days away from the start of the long-awaited Oasis reunion tour, with him set to take the stage with brother Noel, 58, for the first time in 15 years, on Friday in Cardiff. However, the famously outspoken and controversial star left many of his Asian fans hurt and offended, after tweeting out the derogatory phrase 'chingchong'. The slur is a derogatory imitation of the Chinese language and is used mock or denigrate people of East Asian descent. In the past both Shaquille O'Neal and Rosie O'Donnell have drawn public ire and issued apologies for using the offensive term. Liam appeared to tweet the phrase on Tuesday, responding to critics by claiming: 'it's an ancient thought process get on it', and responding to one fan warning him he'd be cancelled by saying: 'Whatever'. But he seemed to have learned the error of his ways by Wednesday, after deleting the original tweet and taking to X once again to apologise and insist his use of the slur wasn't 'intentional'. He wrote: 'Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn't intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. peace and love LG x'. However, the damage was done for many, with some less than impressed by his apology and calling his behaviour 'disappointing'. They took to social media to say: 'My friend once went to Liam Gallagher's Knebworth gig alone, and got assaulted by racists. It was never just a wrong word. It sounds okay to you because you've never been scared by people calling you racist slurs. Grown ups should know it's never right to defend racism'. 'why are so many white people defending Liam Gallagher and saying he did nothing wrong?? Just because he sang your favourite songs doesn't mean you can excuse blatant racism.' 'liam gallagher deciding to get cancelled 3 days before their first gig since 2009'; 'liam gallagher could drop a nuclear bomb and *those* oasis fans would be like "silly liam!!! its alright he didn't know".' 'I mean i love oasis as much as the next guy and i cant deny the fondness for Liam in my heart BUT he posts "rastas" like every single day as a white shoulda seen this in the cards for him'. 'who would have thought in 2025 at the ripe age of 52 liam gallagher would still consider casual racism as being edgy.' 'It's fine that Liam apologized because it's the least the offended Chinese fans deserve, but if you're not Asian you shouldn't tell Liam that there was no mistake on his part, and that his apologies aren't necessary, YES they are necessary'. 'I personally don't care for his half-hearted apologies. He clearly doesn't care when his only responses to people calling him out on his previous remarks were 'whatever'. That really says it all.' 'Those white people who forgive Liam Gallagher for tweeting 'chingchong' certainly haven't been called by this racist, derogatory, disgusting name on the streets, multiple times, unprovoked, just for looking East Asian.' 'he was saying whatever in the replies yesterday but ig being scrubbed from a burberry campaign will do wonders for one's solemnity and reflection'. 'i appreciate the apology but the original tweet and the dismissiveness in his replies to ppl rightfully critiquing him still leave a bad taste hopefully he learns from this but it's just truly disappointing'. It comes as Oasis have arrived in Cardiff ahead of the first gig of their hotly-anticipated reunion tour, after a last minute change to the plans. The iconic Britpop band will perform stadium shows for the first time in 15 years across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, South Korea and North, Central and South America, where it will conclude with a show at São Paulo's Estádio do Morumbi on November 23. And on Monday, fans became convinced that the duo had already arrived in Wales to sound check at the stadium after people heard music coming from inside. It has also been revealed the brothers have enlisted new bandmates for the tour, with drummer Joey Waronker and guitarists Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs on board. A source told The Mirror: 'With a new lineup and it being such a huge first show, the boys will do some songs inside the venue too. 'Some tours would start with a smaller show or take a week or two to get into the groove again- but there is no time for that, and also Liam and Noel want every night to be massive. 'This is such a huge comeback show, and they are taking it very seriously, it all points to it being an incredible comeback tour.'

EXCLUSIVE Liam Gallagher completes renovations on his London mansion as Oasis star beefs up security at £4million home
Liam Gallagher has beefed up security at his £4million North London mansion, days before the Oasis reunion tour kicks off. Last year the musician put in a planning application to build a swimming pool and a bigger security fence at his mansion. And new pictures show a new front gate and wall have been installed at the five bedroom home which Liam moved into five years ago. The Oasis singer snapped up the mock Tudor property with fiancée Debbie Gwyther in 2020 after moving out of his former home, a £2.1million terrace, in Highgate - reportedly after quarrelling with neighbours. With five bedrooms, sprawling landscaped gardens and several hand-carved fireplaces, the home was purchased by Liam for an estimated £4million. The star has been making big changes to the propety over the past year with the 2024 planning application also revealing that he planned to get rid of his party wigwam in the back garden to make way for a summerhouse and sunloungers around the pool. Liam was previously given the green light to install new external doors and complete internal alterations as well as refurbishment works which included a new bar. The house boasts five bedrooms, a library and a huge back garden, perfect for entertaining in. Materials for construction of the house were thought to have come from a show home created for the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 and the local council put the property on its heritage list because of its 'historical significance'. It is the first home the musician and Debbie, his former personal assistant, have bought together. Its previous owner was KC Dinah Rose, a human rights barrister who was set to become president of Magdalen College, Oxford, at the time. Liam and his brothers Noel and Paul were raised by single-mum Peggy in a humble semi-detached property in Burnage, Greater Manchester. But after finding fame with Oasis in the mid-nineties he moved into a penthouse in affluent north London suburb Muswell Hill, before relocating to nearby Hampstead. The property was sold in 2014, with Gallagher subsequently moving to Highgate Village, a stones throw from his two favourite pubs - The Prince Of Wales and The Gatehouse. Noel meanwhile resided in an iconic house dubbed Supernova Heights in the nineties, with the property becoming an epicentre for the band's raucous parties. Liam reportedly left his former home, a £2.1million pad in Highgate, following arguments with neighbours. The loudmouth singer denied he had described locals there as 'prats' but appeared to be seeking a more sedate lifestyle at his new home. Liam's fiancée Debbie has been credited with encouraging the Oasis star to 'keep performing' - ahead of the band's highly-anticipated reunion tour. Debbie has been in a relationship with the frontman for 10 years, after they met in 2013 when she worked as his personal assistant after taking a job with his then management company Quest. After Liam divorced All Saints singer Nicole Appleton in 2014, the two began a relationship, going on to get engaged in 2019, when Liam proposed during a trip to the Amalfi coast in Italy. The band - which Liam forms with his brother Noel - are back this summer with a series of reunion concerts in the UK and abroad. A new book A Sound So Very Loud reveals how Liam was on the verge of moving to Majorca to retire and quit music until Debbie changed his mind. The book was written by journalist Ted Kessler and Hamish MacBain, with Ted recalling how he met Liam in a London pub in 2016 just two years after his group Beady Eye disbanded. Ted writes in the book in an extract shared with The Mirror: 'In the pub, over pints, Liam explained what had been going on for the past two years. He'd spent a while in freefall.' 'He had tumbled out of the bubble to such an extent that for a while, he considered jacking it all in and moving to Majorca, living 'Sexy Beast-style' 'Debbie also firmly reminded him that he was the greatest rock 'n' roll frontman of his generation, he was only 43 and there was lots of mileage left on his engine.' According to the book, Liam then explained: 'She just told me to stop being a d**khead. She got me out the house, introduced me to new people outside my world, got me doing new things.' Meanwhile Oasis have arrived in Cardiff ahead of the first gig of their hotly-anticipated reunion tour, after a last minute change to the plans. The iconic Britpop band will perform stadium shows for the first time in 15 years across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, South Korea and North, Central and South America, where it will conclude with a show at São Paulo's Estádio do Morumbi on November 23.

‘Finally': Oasis returns after 15 years — fans young and old unite for epic comeback
LONDON, July 2 — Fans of all ages from around the world are gearing up for the Oasis reunion tour that many doubted would ever happen, with just two days to go until the opening concert in Cardiff. For older fans who attended gigs during the height of the Britpop band's fame in the 1990s, the tour is a chance to relive memories of the good old days. And for younger audiences, it is a moment they never imagined experiencing live after hearing stories of one of the music world's most acrimonious break-ups. Matt, 25, a software engineer from Leeds in northern England, grew up listening to his dad rave about Liam and Noel Gallagher's legendary gigs. But the prospect of seeing them live was always a 'distant fantasy' — until now. Matt snagged tickets to the band's long-awaited return to their hometown Manchester on July 11. 'Not only will they obviously be gassed to be back in Manchester, but the fans and the locals are going to be gassed to have them back,' Matt, who did not want to share his full name, told AFP. Lauren DeBruin, 23, from Hemel Hempstead, northwest of London, said she loved Britpop 'because that's the music my mum listened to when she was a teenager'. 'I've got a lot of fond memories of that sort of music, especially Oasis,' said the actor, who missed out on tickets in the craze that followed the Gallagher brothers announcing a reunion after a 15-year hiatus. A sign offering the chance to win Oasis concert tickets is seen in front of some pedal boats in Heaton Park, in Manchester July 1, 2025. — Reuters pic 'Celebrity crush' Oasis — whose hits include Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova — kick off the worldwide tour in the Welsh capital on Friday. It is one of 17 sold out UK shows followed by performances in the US, Japan, Australia and Argentina. Sales platform Ticketmaster sold more than 900,000 tickets for the gigs, with outrage over sudden price hikes, known as 'dynamic' pricing, due to overwhelming demand. 'I'd already seen the best bit, so it's kind of a bonus,' said Sam Inglis, a 47-year-old sub-editor from Norwich, eastern England, who watched Oasis live four times before they split up in 2009. 'I think there's going to be a lot of middle-aged men like myself regressing,' said Inglis, who is attending concerts in Manchester and Los Angeles. 'It might take some of the younger fans... by surprise. Because things did used to get quite rowdy,' he recalled. In the band's heyday, the Gallagher brothers' irreverent style and hedonism became synonymous with British 'lad' culture embraced by young men and football fans. But three decades later, some of its most ardent supporters now are young women on TikTok and X sharing video edits and posts of the brothers. Online, the fans are 'mostly young girls', said 16-year-old Liz Marina Numbela Nascimento from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. 'I don't know why the girls love it so much... I think it's that classic thing of having a celebrity crush,' she added. 'We finally get to experience what we've been hearing about for the past decade,' gushed the superfan. For many, the band's enduring appeal comes from its catchy, upbeat tunes, nostalgia for its optimistic cultural moment, and Oasis's origin story as a working-class, homegrown success. 'There's been a bit of a dearth of anything similar for quite a long time,' said Inglis. In 2020, one of the band's most iconic tracks 'Wonderwall' became the first song from the 90s to reach one billion streams on Spotify. Younger fans have also been able to discover their music by attending separate gigs by Liam and Noel. Matt — who has seen both brothers perform individually — said 'they're missing the other half'. 'It feels like you're watching 50 per cent of Oasis.' The band's cross-generational popularity has also led to a rift between some fans. 'Imagine waiting 15 years for Oasis to re-form only to lose out on tickets to Chloe, 21, from Stockport who just wants to hear Wonderwall live,' X user Billy Corcoran posted last August. In an X post this June, Liam Gallagher said the tour was 'for everyone old 'n' young'. Inglis shares that sentiment and called the clash between older and younger fans 'ridiculous'. But there will be at least one point of contention between the generations, he conceded, vowing not to bring out his phone to film any of the concert. 'Absolutely not. There'll be none of that for me.' — AFP

Meg Mathews forced to deny she's back together with ex Noel Gallagher after posting a slew of throwback snaps including four of them KISSING as she counts down to Oasis gigs
Meg Mathews has been forced to deny she's back together with Noel Gallagher after posting a slew of loved-up snaps of the pair, including four kissing photos, in the run-up to the Oasis reunion gigs. The columnist, 59, famously wed the rocker, 58, in June 1997 in Las Vegas. However, their marriage was short-lived as they divorced just four years later. But Meg proved that the pair are still as close as ever as she took to Instagram over the past week to excitedly countdown to the shows, which kick off on July 4 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. However, fans of the blonde bombshell have questioned whether the duo had rekindled their romance 24 years after their divorce, as amid her nostalgic photos, were several of the pair locking lips. Amid the many comments on the numerous snaps, one fan wrote: 'So glad to see you guys are back together. Make a wonderful couple. Love like that never dies. The message caused Meg, who shares model daughter Anaïs, 25, with the singer, to respond: 'We are not back together.' Meg proved that the pair are still as close as ever as she took to Instagram over the past week to excitedly countdown to the shows, which kick off on July 4 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium [Noel, right, with brother Liam] While she was forced to write a firm 'no' when others asked if they were 'dating again' or 'back together'. However, amid the comments in the posts, Meg confirmed that she is still friends with Noel, while also revealing she would be attending a few of the upcoming gigs. Meg met Noel Gallagher in 1994 in London through her roommate MTV presenter Rebecca de Ruvo. Noel was dating Rebecca at the time, however, he eventually left her for Meg. The pair went on to separate in 2000, before confirming their divorce the following year. Noel met his next wife Sara in Ibiza in 2000. They went on to marry in June 2011 before divorcing in 2023 following 11 years of marriage. After his divorce from Meg was finalised, the Don't Look Back In Anger singer denied actually being unfaithful to her with Sara, but had only admitted to cheating in order to speed up the divorce process. Last week, Meg revealed she was doing a Oasis countdown after receiving hundreds of messages from fans urging her to share old photos. Amid the many comments on the numerous snaps, one fan wrote: 'So glad to see you guys are back together. Make a wonderful couple. Love like that never dies' In a post on Friday, alongside a throwback snap of her and Noel snogging, she penned: 'Throwback to the 90s when gigs were everything and my hair was questionable after 100'sof DM's asking for old photos I I decided to do a count down from my favourite oasis Gigs 6 to go.' She the proceeded to share daily throwback photos of herself and Noel throughout their years together as she took a trip down memory lane. While on Thursday, Noel's supportive ex reminisced on Noel preparing for his first ever gig with the band. Alongside a snap of the pair on holiday, she penned: 'Noel here getting ready for the first Gig… A week tomorrow Oasis are back. 'In 1996 During their legendary Knebworth performances August 10–11, they launched huge inflatable footballs into the audience as part of their upbeat intro before launching into songs like Columbia, Acquiesce, and Supersonic.' It comes after Oasis revealed they are releasing more tickets ahead of their eagerly anticipated reunion tour this summer. The iconic Britpop band have reunited for a series of stadium shows across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan , South Korea and North, Central and South America, commencing at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on July 4. A statement posted to the band's official website on Wednesday reads: 'As the shows are getting closer, Oasis promoters may be able to release a very limited number of additional tickets for sale once final sight lines are checked and the production is fine tuned. 'These final production releases will happen over the coming days.' Following their initial release, thousands of fans waited for hours in virtual queues to get their hands on highly coveted tickets for the band's reunion shows, only to find that prices had jumped in a 'dynamic pricing' scheme. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has since called for Ticketmaster to change how it labels tickets and informs customers. The CMA launched an investigation into Ticketmaster in September to examine if it had engaged in 'unfair commercial practices', whether fans were given 'clear and timely' information to explain tickets could be subject to 'dynamic pricing', and if people were put under pressure to buy tickets within a short period of time. The watchdog said it was concerned that Ticketmaster, which sold more than 900,000 tickets for the Oasis gigs, may have breached consumer protection law. Downing Street has said that 'everyone deserves a fair shot at getting tickets' for music and sport events. Ticketmaster UK said in a statement that it tries to provide a 'simple, transparent and consumer-friendly' experience. Certain tickets for shows were labelled as 'platinum' and sold for nearly 2.5 times more than the standard price. However, the company did not explain these tickets do not come with any additional benefits and are located in the same area of the stadium. The CMA said this risked consumers being mislead into thinking the platinum tickets were better. Another concern listed by the watchdog was that two categories of standing tickets were listed at different prices, with the cheaper tickets sold first before the more expensive ones were released. This caused fans to wait in long queues without realising they would have to pay a higher price than expected, the CMA added. Since the opening of the investigation, Ticketmaster has made changes to some aspects of its ticket sales process, but the CMA does not currently consider these changes are sufficient to address its concerns. Hayley Fletcher, Interim Senior Director of Consumer Protection at the CMA, said: 'Fans reported problems when buying Oasis tickets from Ticketmaster and we decided those concerns warranted investigation. 'We're concerned that Oasis fans didn't get the information they needed or may have been misled into buying tickets they thought were better than they were. 'All ticketing websites should check they are complying with the law and treating their customers fairly. When businesses get it right, consumers benefit – and that's the best outcome for everyone.'
