NHAI has launched an AI-powered digital platform called Data Lake 3.0, which compiles all project-related information in one place and helps in faster decision-making. This technology has made project management smarter and more transparent. AI Leads to Rs 25,680 Crore In Savings This digital transformation directly helped NHAI resolve 155 long-pending disputes. Settling these cases led to savings of approximately Rs 25,680 crore in public funds — a major achievement. The report also mentions that NHAI has not just embraced technology, but has also taken major steps for the safety and health of its employees. An Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Framework has been implemented at workplaces. Moreover, due to efforts to promote diversity and equality, not a single complaint of discrimination was reported in the past year. FASTag Impact Visible Nationwide According to the report, FASTag coverage in the country has now reached 98.5%. This has had a direct impact at toll plazas — long queues have reduced, vehicles pass through without stopping, resulting in fuel savings and reduced pollution. NHAI also stated that it now prioritizes sustainable policies like greenery, solar energy, and waste management in its construction activities. The aim is to ensure rapid development while minimizing environmental impact.

South Gauteng deeds office remains open for business
The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development has reassured that the South Gauteng Deeds Office remains open and fully operational, despite recent media reports claiming the facility's closure. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the department acknowledged that while the facility is experiencing infrastructure challenges, services to the public and clients continue uninterrupted. 'The department has previously acknowledged the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) issues in the building, which include, sometimes, dysfunctional lifts, intermittent poor lighting, and other challenges. 'Additionally, we have indicated that the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is in the process of securing a suitable building. It has been incorrectly reported by the media that services have been compromised,' the department said. The department said the area, which is currently experiencing delays, is the data capturing after registration. Despite these challenges, the department has assured that performance targets continue to be met and exceeded. 'In terms of the target of 95% of deeds and documents made available within seven days from the date of lodgements for execution, the office performance is at 97%. The office exceeded the target. 'In terms of the target of 95% of deeds delivered within 10 days from the date of registration, the office delivered 99% in 32 days. The backlog is due to the Occupational Health and Safety challenges,' the department said. To address the situation, interim alternative working arrangements have been implemented to ensure business continuity, and additional measures are underway to address the data capturing backlog. CALGARY - Police in Calgary say eight people were injured when equipment at a temporary African market outside City Hall collapsed. A news release from police says seven adults and one youth were taken to hospital Saturday, all with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say they were called to the plaza outside City Hall around 3 p.m. where the Naija Market Day was being held, and they say a light standard and TV screens had fallen. The markets are held throughout Canada and are billed on the events' website as celebrating Nigerian culture in Canada, 'offering authentic products, (and) vibrant music, while attendees experience the local Nigeria market.' Naija Market Day organizers did not immediately respond to questions about the equipment collapse. Police say organizers held the appropriate permits to operate the event within the plaza. Temporary lane closures were implemented along Macleod Trail near City Hall, but the roads have since reopened. Police say they and Occupational Health and Safety officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapsed equipment. Crèches are now ready to fight fires Tshwane has delivered fire safety equipment, including serviced and upgraded extinguishers, hose reels and hydrants, to nine early childhood development centres in regions 3 and 6. This comes after a routine inspection by the DA caucus's Section 79 Community and Social Development oversight committee, chaired by Phuti Kwenaite. 'Recently, we pointed out there are maintenance elements that have been neglected in Tshwane's ECDs.' She said the fire extinguisher problem was supposed to be addressed two years ago. Kwenaite highlighted the significant risk posed when fire extinguishers are neither present nor functional. 'It is a big risk for the extinguishers not to be there and functioning. 'This is why the fire department took some time for some of these ECDs to open.' MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Kholofelo Morodi confirmed that Tshwane has completed the servicing and upgrading of fire-fighting equipment, with a sharp focus on ECD centres. She said the initiative, executed by Group Property Management, ensures full compliance with national safety standards, specifically SANS 10400 Part T (fire safety) and SANS 1475 (fire extinguishers). Marodi added that these mandate the installation, maintenance and servicing of portable fire suppression equipment. 'It includes the maintenance of fire extinguishers, hose reels, and hydrants and forms part of the city's annual fire safety programme.' She said these maintenance efforts signal a broader shift in Tshwane's multiparty coalition prioritising the safety of employees, children and communities. Marodi added that maintaining a safe workplace supports an efficient municipality and reflects Tshwane's commitment to this principle. 'Reinforcing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards remains pivotal to protecting employees and service users. 'This intervention forms part of an ongoing effort to strengthen internal systems, promote compliance, and safeguard infrastructure, all aimed at delivering reliable and dignified services to residents.'
