Big Fourth of July rule change coming to Myrtle Beach after deadly shooting
Following the third shooting on Myrtle Beach's North Ocean Boulevard tourist strip this summer, the city has announced temporary changes to its juvenile curfew ahead of Fourth of July festivities. The curfew changes come after a recent deadly shooting at the downtown restaurant Peaches Corner. Grayson Meyers, 18, was shot and killed after a confrontation with a restaurant employee, Evony McCray, 17. In an announcement posted to Facebook, Assistant City Manager Josh Bruegger, who oversees public safety in Myrtle Beach, explained that those under 18 years old will have to temporarily adhere to new curfew rules. The changes will take place from Wednesday through Monday. 'The City of Myrtle Beach is working towards permanent juvenile curfew changes,' the announcement reads. 'We realize this will not be a 'fix all' solution to juvenile issues happening along Ocean Boulevard, but it is a step in the right direction.' According to the announcement, an executive order was signed on Tuesday morning by Myrtle Beach City Manager Fox Simons to temporarily expand juvenile curfew rules throughout certain parts of the city. The new curfew will begin at 10 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. the next day within a defined 'protected zone,' as well as all city parks and other city facilities. The protected zone takes up most of downtown Myrtle Beach and the Ocean Boulevard area, specifically the areas of Atlantic Ocean to Kings Highway, between 13th Avenue South and 21st Avenue North. Also included is a small extension west of Kings Highway to Broadway Street, between Seventh and Ninth avenues North. Outside of this zone, the standard city juvenile curfew from midnight to 6 a.m. will remain in place. There are several exemptions to this new temporary curfew. Minors may be in the protected zone during the enforced times if they are: Accompanied by a parent or guardian. Involved in an emergency or emergency errand. Engaged in employment or traveling directly to or from employment. In a vehicle engaged in interstate travel. Attending or traveling for a school, religious or government activity supervised by adults. Attending or traveling for a city-sponsored or civic activity that is supervised by adults. 'Exercising rights protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.' Married or otherwise emancipated by operation of law.

What we know about Grayson Meyers, victim of deadly Myrtle Beach shooting
Grayson Meyers, an 18-year-old Myrtle Beach resident, was shot and killed on Friday night at the popular Ocean Boulevard restaurant Peaches Corner. Police claim that following a verbal altercation between Myers and an employee at Peaches Corner, 17-year-old Evony McCray of Conway, Myers was shot by McCray and killed on scene. McCray has now been charged with murder, among other charges, and remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center. He will be tried as an adult. Meyers was identified as the victim by the Coroner's office on Monday morning. Friends and loved ones have taken to social media to mourn the loss of Meyers. Meyers' own social media presence does not reveal much about his life or background, primarily made up of emoji reactions to other accounts' comedic posts. Over the years, he has posted several photos of himself with friends on Facebook, as well as a few videos of himself smoking and vaping. There are some posts showing Meyers with firearms on his Instagram page. It is unclear where Meyers went to school. The Sun News has requested information about Myers' enrollment from Horry County Schools. Meyers did have a history with law enforcement, according to the Horry County Public Index. Meyers was charged with trespassing earlier this year, and had also been charged with kidnapping, which was dismissed, and assault and battery first degree last year, to which he pled guilty, The Sun News previously reported. The latter two charges were in connection with a Conway-area party at which a minor was assaulted, and Meyers was arrested alongside three others involved in the incident. No further records of criminal activity were shown in the Horry County Public Index for McCray. The memorial service for Meyers will take place on July 8th, according to the GoFundMe page set up to raise money for his mother. The page states that Meyers' mother, Crystal Sparkman has been the sole caregiver for Meyers and three other children. One other victim suffered a non-life threatening injury from a gunshot during the shooting, but no further information has been released about this individual. Meyers was a victim of what is now the third shooting along Ocean Boulevard in recent months. In April, a shooting in the area injured 11 people and left one dead, and earlier this month, another shooting near Peaches Corner left one person injured from a gunshot. At a city-run press conference on Saturday, Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock said that this kind of violence is a state- and nationwide issue. She also noted that the city may be eyeing its curfew for minors, as well as 'mitigating' factors of open carry laws. However, she acknowledged that, in this case, the minor in question was exempt from city curfew because he was at work, and the firearm he used was in his possession illegally. Also at the press conference, police were asked whether Meyers came into the restaurant with a weapon as well, but they responded that this information is part of the ongoing investigation into the incident. Peaches Corner declined to comment on Monday morning. The Sun News has reached out to several of Meyers' friends and family members for more information.

Deadly downtown Myrtle Beach shooting between customer, employee. 1 arrested
A 17-year-old employee at Peaches Corner has been charged in a shooting death that happened at the restaurant Friday night. Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock said during a press conference Saturday afternoon that the Conway teen Evany McCray allegedly shot and killed the person. The victim has not been named. Prock said the youth curfew is being 'reevaluated at this time.' The current youth curfew is from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. for those under 18. Saturday afternoon, Prock offered more information about the incident, and bond was set for the suspect. It appears that the employee got into a verbal fight with the victim who walked into the restaurant. The person who was injured was outside on the crosswalk. This shooting is the third to take place in Myrtle Beach's Ocean Boulevard tourist section within months. In April, a mass shooting injured 11 people and killed one, and earlier this month, another shooting near Peaches Corner left one person injured from a gunshot. According to Myrtle Beach Police, Friday's shooting came as a result of an altercation between an employee at the restaurant and another person at about 11:15 p.m. Two people suffered gunshot wounds. One died and the other was transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury. The person who suffered non-life threatening injuries was in the crosswalk near the business when they were hit. No further information was shared about the victims of the shooting. The teen's bond hearing took place on Saturday afternoon, during which the judge offered no bond on a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, a bond of $250,000 for possession of a weapon during the violent crime, and a bond of $250,000 for a charge of possession of a weapon by a minor. McCray was also charged with murder. This charge was sent to the High Court for bond setting. Police Lt. Allen Amick said that Myrtle Beach police were already patrolling the area when the incident took place, and responded 'within seconds' when shots were fired. Prock said that violence like this is a nationwide issue, and that not only are there some 'mitigating' factors that must be examined with open carry laws, but that adults need to secure weapons in the home. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, police said.

Shooting inside popular downtown Myrtle Beach restaurant leaves one person dead
A shooting inside Peaches Corner, a downtown restaurant, has left one person dead, according to Myrtle Beach Police. This is the third shooting that has taken place in the popular tourist section of Myrtle Beach's Ocean Boulevard within months. A mass shooting in April left one person dead and 11 others injured. An altercation between an employee and another person occurred about 11:15 p.m. Friday inside Peaches Corner, 900 N. Ocean Blvd., a Facebook post from police said. Two people suffered gunshot wounds. One person died and the other was transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury, the post said. The name of the person killed has not been released. One person is in custody. Additional details about the shooting have not been released. Earlier this month Myrtle Beach Police responded to a shooting near the intersection of 9th Avenue North and North Ocean Boulevard, near Peaches Corner. The shooting again happened about the same time as Friday's shooting, about 11:55 p.m., according to police. After an altercation, several shots were fired and one individual sustained a gunshot wound. That shooting came after an officer-involved shooting on April 26, 2025, in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard. A Myrtle Beach Police officer shot and killed 18-year-old Jerrius Davis, who allegedly fired into a crowd of people on a busy walk which prompted police to return fire. Eleven others were injured in the shooting. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is currently investigating the shooting. Safety along the Boulevard has long been a concern of both residents and visitors who come into the city. Recent shootings have only increased the concern, especially now that the city is in its summer tourist season. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
