The same 'all-star' designation could be applied to the celebrities who turned out to celebrate the former Beatles drummer's 85th birthday on Monday, July 7, in Beverly Hills. Tuttle did a version of the Ringo-sung Beatles classic 'Octopus's Garden,' while Browne performed 'Act Naturally,' the Buck Owens song that Ringo famously covered with the Beatles, according to a Facebook post by retired Los Angeles Times music journalist Randy Lewis. There was also an impromptu version of 'With a Little Help From My Friends,' as well as a version of the Beatles' 'Birthday,' sung in Ringo's honor. At the song's conclusion, Ringo held up his phone and proclaimed, 'Paul said it sounded great!' Lewis revealed in his post. Among the other celebs at the big event were Ringo's wife, actress Barbara Bach, Eagles guitarist, solo artist and Ringo's brother-in-law Joe Walsh, Doors drummer John Densmore, former Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum, guitarist Davey Johnstone, former Saturday Night Live cast member and drummer Fred Armisen, actor Ed Begley Jr., All-Starr Band and Toto guitarist Steve Lukather, acclaimed songwriter Diane Warren, songwriter-producer Linda Perry, Breakfast With the Beatles radio host Chris Carter and many others. Ringo addressed the crowd in footage posted on Instagram by music journalist . 'I couldn't have dreamed I would end up here,' Starr said. 'I did end up in a good band, though. When you come to America, for us being British, it was like such a goal because all of the songs and the singers we loved came from America. We were there in New York and you go through, 'Maybe I should live in New York.' And then you come to California, 'Maybe California.' Next time, 'Definitely California!' I love it here. I love the people I love the attitude and the peace and love that's shown in this state is incredible, and all the other states are trying.' Ringo Starr demanded script changes in Sam Mendes' Beatles biopic: ‘That's not how we were'
Don't pass him by. Ringo Starr, 84, recently revealed that he demanded script changes in filmmaker Sam Mendes' upcoming Beatles biopic about his life. Getty Images Starr said that most of his problems had to do with how his relationship with his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett, was being portrayed. Advertisement 'He had a writer – very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,' Starr explained. 'That's not how we were. I'd say, 'We would never do that.'' Starr and Tigrett married in 1965 at the height of Beatlemania. They welcomed three children together, including famous drummer Zak Starkey, between 1965 and 1970. 'But he'll do what he's doing,' Starr said. 'And I'll send him peace and love.' 'We're not just making one film about the Beatles — we're making four,' Mendes said during the announcement at CinemaCon 2025 in March. 'Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.' 'There had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation,' the 'Skyfall' director added at the time. Besides announcing the main cast members, Mendes also revealed that writers Jez Butterworth ('Ford v Ferrari'), Peter Straughan ('Conclave') and Jack Thorne ('Adolescence') would pen the scripts for the four upcoming Beatles flicks. 'I want to humanize him and bring feelings to it and not just sort of imitate.' 'There'll be Beatles in mine around when I joined, and there'll be Beatles in Paul's. We'll all be there,' Starr added. 'So I'm excited to see what he does with it.'
