CORONATION Street favourite has made a shock return to the cobbles - nearly a year after leaving the soap. Lucy Fallon - who plays Bethany Platt - was spotted back on set this week, sparking rumours of an explosive new storyline and leaving viewers thrilled at the surprise comeback. 5 5 The actress, 27, is back from maternity leave after leaving in February to give birth to her second child – her daughter Nancy Margaret. The mum-of-two took to Instagram to reveal that she's back on the Corrie set as she posed for a photo in her dressing room. Lucy wrote: "And just like that she's back." Coronation Street spokesperson confirmed that "Lucy will be returning to filming in the summer after maternity leave, as always planned and that Bethany will be back on screen in October." However, there were rumours that Lucy had quit the ITV soap for good - amid the shock cast cull. It was revealed that the star had signed with the talent agency Off Limits - leaving fans fearing she won't be returning to Corrie. Sarah fell pregnant at the age of just 12-years-old, much to the horror of her family. When she was a child, Bethany's was involved in a major storyline when she took ecstasy tablets. This was when her uncle, David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd), hid them in her doll. The character departed the soap in 2007 with her mum for a new life in Milan. Her return storyline saw the teenager run away back to Weatherfield with a new actress as Lucy Fallon took over the role. Storylines since then have included major school bullying. Her teachers said she was skipping school as she told them that she was attending grief counselling. Sarah and David soon realised that Bethany intercepted letters and emails from the school. She was being tormented by a group of girls, which included her mainbully Lauren (Shannon Flynn). Gary notices the bullying and reports it to the school. Due to several incidents, Lauren makes out that Bethany is the bully and they are both suspended. During this time, Bethany helps David out at the salon and Lauren comes in for a treatment. David then threatened her to leave his family alone. This was before she was expelled from the school after other girls came forward about the torment. Bethany was later at the centre of one of Corrie's darkest storylines when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator Nathan Curtis. The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before coercing her into sleeping with his friends, with one of them raping her. The storyline was based on a real life story and also drew inspiration from the child sex abuse ring in Rochdale, which saw nine men jailed in 2012. But what brings Bethany back to Weatherfield? Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon, famed for her role as Bethany Platt, has flaunted a gorgeous hair transformation. In an exciting update for fans, her future on the Cobbles has also been confirmed. The actress has been taking a break from the ITV soap as she's currently on maternity leave. Lucy, 29, welcomed her second child back in January with footballer boyfriend Ryan Ledson. The couple were overjoyed to share the arrival of their daughter Nancy, with their new bundle of joy coming after they welcomed their son, Sonny, back in 2023. The new mum-of-two has since shared a number of sweet updates on social media as she basks in her baby bubble as well as enjoying her time away from the Street. In delightful news to fans, it has been confirmed she will be back, reports the Manchester Evening News. When it was revealed Lucy has signed with the talent agency Off Limits, there were reports she had decided to quit the soap altogether. However, a Coronation Street spokesperson has since confirmed to the Metro that "Lucy will be returning to filming in the summer after maternity leave, as always planned", and that "Bethany will be back on screen in October". Meanwhile, Lucy is making the most of her maternity leave with her two little ones and has been sharing what else she's been up to while she's not playing her Weatherfield alter-ego. In one of her latest posts, the Blackpool-born star shared a picture of her gorgeous hair transformation as she headed to the salon amid the current spring heatwave. It comes after Lucy was seen showing her support for her footballer partner as he made a huge decision on his playing career. She took to social media earlier this month to reshare his news. The Preston North End midfielder confirmed that he is set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June. The 27-year-old joined the Championship side from Oxford in May 2018 and scored seven goals in 215 games. "I've had the best seven years that I could have asked for. "This club means so much to me," he told the club website. "I'm glad my last game for the club went as well as it did and I could have that moment with the fans at the end." The actress, 29, left Weatherfield in 2019 to have her first child, Sonny, before leaving again last year to welcome her second child, who she gave birth to in January. Despite leaving the soap twice, Lucy, who plays Bethany Platt, has always left the door open in Corrie with regards to her storylines. However, she's now signed up to an exclusive commercial agency, Off Limits, which helps TV stars and influencers bag big brand deals - something ITV is against. While the soap does allow product placement on the show, showing brands such as Sainsbury's and Argos on set, the cast is generally restricted from bagging their own brand deals. This is said to have caused some friction among the actors, who are reportedly miffed that the soap can advertise brands in big money deals, but they cannot. The agent who deals with the Corrie's stars previously told The Sun: 'There is real anger over this commercial tie-in. ITV is happy to take millions from commercial firms for product placement and allow the cast to stand around with Costa cups and lug carrier bags around but won't allow the cast to promote products away from the set. 'That is just double standards. Aside from that the product placement is ridiculous. This no joke. Once you have one or two brands in then it is opening the door for more. "This will be a like a slow drip and in a few years' time there will be lots more. Mark my words." Suggesting the imbalance would cause more stars to leave the soap, they added 'More will go over this. That is for sure. Why should they be made to plug products for ITV as a character but they are not allowed to do it for themselves in their own names?' One star who is confirmed to have left the soap is Colson Smith, who said goodbye to Weatherfield in March after 14 years on the cobbles, playing Craig Tinker. Craig's co-stars, including Lucy, came together to party the night away as they celebrated Colson's impressive tenure on screen. Back in January, it was revealed the actor had been axed from the long running ITV soap before he was given a fitting send off from his co-stars, who threw a police-themed party. They headed to a bar together as Colson was joined by his closest work pals, including Lucy, who threw her arms around the actor, wearing double denim with a smile a mile wide. The Mirror has contacted Lucy's rep and ITV for comment on this story.

But any plans to cash in by signing up to star in television adverts will be blocked by Coronation Street bosses. It means any tea brands hoping to collaborate with cuppa addict Jack, 37, will miss out. A TV insider said: "It used to be a lot more strict, but these days ITV soap stars are allowed certain partnerships that are permitted on social media. "The line is drawn at advertising more generally - and absolutely no TV adverts." Jack has been drinking endless cups of tea during his three-week stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house.
