And sunworshippers descended on Irish coastlines and waterways in their thousands.
Sadly, though, this left to some lesser known areas becoming crowded.
One such spot was Cahore Point in Co
The spot offers a stunning beach as well as a unique walk through cliffs and sand dunes.

And it's a haven for nature including sea birds, coastal creatures, and marine life.
The coastal hideaway is beloved by locals as a place for walking, picnics, and beach days.
But it was left almost unrecognisable following a packed weekend.
Thousands of beachgoers descended on the sandy spot to enjoy some of the sun.

He captioned the post: "Always feel heartbroken to see this after a busy weekend."
THE AFTERMATH
The clip shows the pier above the beach strewn with plastic bottles, empty drink cans, and beach bucket hats and swimming togs.
It also shows that towels and food wrappers were left behind on the ground and the wall.
Angry locals took to the comment section to condemn the behaviour.
One person said: "Some people have absolutely no respect. Awful to see."
A second penned: "It's so disappointing to see this. And it happens almost everywhere when we get fine weather.
"People lose the run of themselves and forget common sense."
And a third commented: "Dead right, it would sicken you how people destroy our country and just walk away for someone else to clean up."
