Guinness World Record given to Londoners for largest scotch egg
What weighs about 8kg (17.6lb) and has a circumference of 79.5cm (31.3in)? Not a watermelon, nor an enormous bowling ball - but the world's largest scotch egg. You may recognise these food content creators, Oliver Paterson and Phoenix Ross - or perhaps more familiarly, ElBurritoMonster and Shef_Phoenix as they are known online. They joined forces on 17 June, to smash the record of 6.2kg (13.7lb) that had stood for about 17 years by the speciality egg producer Clarence Court. "It felt great that we'd got it," 27-year-old Phoenix told how do you get around to making the world's largest scotch egg? After meeting Oli, he said he knew he was the person he wanted to do the record attempt with and they proposed making a scotch egg with an ostrich egg - something Oli had done about three and a half years ago. They had considered burritos, but that record was "unbeatable" at 2.4km (1.49miles) or a giant sausage roll, but the record of 111m (364ft) was too long, as they wanted to do it in Oli's garden. So they decided on a scotch egg and at Oli's place in Enfield, where they began their first attempt on 10 failed - the egg collapsed before they could add it to the both admitted that was due to little planning and that they had just "hoped for the best".Fast forward a week later and they achieved their goal thanks to a lot more preparation: the egg was hard boiled, wrapped in sausage meat then covered in bread crumbs and deep fried."We were pretty confident - 90% certain - we were going to pull it off this time," said Oli. Guinness World Record adjudicator Emma Salt measured the width of the egg at 11.5cm (4.5in) and the thickness of the meat as 6cm (2.4in) used to create the egg-straordinarily large said: "I felt a little anxiety before it was open – a slight bit of tension – as the egg had to be intact. As soon as we sliced it open, we knew at that moment we had got it."After we failed the first time, there was no doubt in my mind that we had to get it the second time."Oli added: "The moment of celebration, that feeling of elation for me, was pulling it out the fryer." Phoenix's first thought after they achieved the Guinness World Record was: "Cool, we've done it, it was a bit of a weight off my chest.""All the food has to get eaten, to avoid food waste," Oli added. "After taking a bite ourselves, we then turned the scotch egg into burritos." In a recent interview to a local media platform, Oli downplayed differences with India and said the bilateral ties were free of any irritants. "Visiting India is not as big a deal as some make it to be, but it is important too. Most likely, I am visiting India... The visit happens after both sides arrange and prepare for it... some prime ministers used to apply for an India visit, but it should be done in an appropriate way. I have also invited Modi ji," he told the Dishanirdesh YouTube leading English media daily, The Kathmandu Post, reported on Monday that Oli could be on a two-day visit to India in mid-September. "The visit is confirmed. That much I can say at the moment," it said, quoting the foreign affairs ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Chettri. "The date will be announced later. The ministry has also started groundwork for the visit." Oli has met Modi twice since last year, in New York and is hosting home secretary-level talks with Nepal from Tuesday, after a gap of nine years, where issues such as extradition treaty, mutual legal assistance and intelligence sharing will be discussed. Issues related to border infrastructure, maintenance of boundary pillars and drug trafficking will also be discussed.

Nepal PM Oli to visit India in mid-September
Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli will pay an official visit to India towards mid-September, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday (July 20, 2025). 'Preparations for the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister are under way. However, the date and the detailed schedules of the visit are yet to be finalised,' Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Chhetri said. However, sources at the Prime Minister's Office said that Mr. Oli will embark on his official visit to the southern neighbour on September 16. The visit will be short this time, probably for two days, the sources added. Mr. Oli, the chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) — popular as the CPN-UML — had assumed the office of Prime Minister for the fourth time last July. He had chosen to visit China for his maiden foreign visit, breaking the tradition of visiting India as the first destination after assuming the post of Prime Minister. Mr. Oli visited China in December last year at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang. During his four-day visit, he addressed a function at Peking University in Beijing and met President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Qiang. Amid speculation by some sections of local media that he didn't receive any invitation from India for an official visit, indicating that his relations with New Delhi had soured, Mr. Oli on Thursday said he will be visiting India and that ground work is under way on both sides for the trip. He, however, did not specify any timeframe for the visit at that time.
