Joshua Jackson Talks Getting 'Off My High Horse' Over Surprising Personal Preference (Exclusive)

Joshua Jackson Talks Getting 'Off My High Horse' Over Surprising Personal Preference (Exclusive) originally appeared on Parade. It takes a lot to alter a stringently held opinion, but not only kept an open mind after many years, he's happy to admit that he was wrong. The Doctor Odyssey star sat down with Parade to chat about his new partnership with Olipop, a prebiotic drink that was formulated as a healthier alternative to typical sodas, and admitted that through their work together, he's "come down off [his] high horse" when it comes to one particular flavor. After giving up soda, a choice that was "purely health-based" after looking at the "amount of sugar [and] the additives [and] dyes" that can be found in a typical pop—"stuff [he] didn't want to put into [his] body"—he always "really missed" Dr Pepper. When he found Olipop's Doctor Goodwin flavor, it was a delightful revelation that "you can actually still enjoy this thing without getting all that bad stuff in your body," but it also led to the realization that, after years of maintaining a strict anti-cherry cola attitude, it's actually quite good. "I've had to come down off my high horse," he admits. "I have discovered this summer through Olipop that I actually love cherry cola, so that's now my solid number two." However, for anyone who might have the "assumption that it won't be as good as the original," he also recommends the brand's Orange Cream flavor, which he calls "legitimately excellent." As part of their partnership, Jackson shot a video ad inspired by the iconic, celebrity-driven drink ads of the '90s. While he can't quite remember which brand or star made such an impression on him, he knew he "wanted to see if [he] was cool enough to be able to open the can with one hand" as someone else once did on TV. "And it turns out, I am," he adds. "I was very proud of myself." Working on the campaign also left him thinking about a signature flavor he could create for himself, admitting, when asked, that he had been "a little stressed out about" getting the question. In the end, though, he came up with "a really good one:" a 7Up or Sprite-style beverage, flavored with a "super tart lemon lime" base named "The Spinal Tap," which is "based upon Dr. Death." He later joked, "We're heavily Dr. Death-themed," as he named his character, and the real-life inspiration for the Peacock series, Christopher Duntsch, as the one of his former characters who "for sure would be a master villain" if any of them could have joined the Fringe universe. Meanwhile, Luke, his character in the 2000 film The Skulls, would have made the most seamless fit on the team of scientists and federal investigators. "He was kind of paranoid and also a little naive, which I think you need to be as part of the Fringe team," Jackson explains. Finally, he says none other than Doctor Odyssey's Dr. Bankman would be the best equipped to crack any of their cases, thanks to being a "very good clinical thinker" who "thinks outside the box."Joshua Jackson Talks Getting 'Off My High Horse' Over Surprising Personal Preference (Exclusive) first appeared on Parade on Jul 18, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jul 18, 2025, where it first appeared. Pepsi launches its own prebiotic soda, available in stores early 2026

Pepsi is hopping on the prebiotic soda bandwagon. PepsiCo announced its Pepsi Prebiotic Cola on Monday, July 21. One 12-ounce can of the new drink will contain five grams of cane sugar, 30 calories and three grams of prebiotic fiber. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola will be available starting this fall in Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla, according to a PepsiCo news release. Prebiotic soda has boomed in recent years with popular brands like Poppi, Olipop and Bloom. The soft drinks, served in bright, colorful cans, are promoted as healthy for the gut and better for consumers than traditional sodas. While dietitians agree with the latter, the drinks shouldn't be expected to cure gut health on their own. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola comes just a few months after PepsiCo announced the acquisition of Poppi for $1.95 billion and Coca-Cola announced Simply Pop, its own line of prebiotic soft drinks. Are prebiotic sodas like Poppi healthy? Here's what dietitians say When will Pepsi Prebiotic Cola be available in stores? Pepsi Prebiotic Cola will be available online this fall and in retailers in early 2026, according to a news release. The prebiotic soda will be available in single 12-ounce cans and 8-packs of 12-ounce cans. What is prebiotic soda? Prebiotic sodas first gained traction in 2018, with the release of popular brands Poppi and Olipop. Prebiotics are plant fibers that serve as food for the body's microbiome – the body's good bacteria, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Most prebiotic sodas contain between two to nine grams of prebiotic fiber per can, while the recommended daily value for fiber is between 25 to 38 grams per day, the Cleveland Clinic states. Is prebiotic soda good for you? The answer isn't so black and white and research remains premature. Prebiotic sodas are better than traditional sodas, but they shouldn't be expected to provide much gut-healing benefits, Jessica Alfano, a clinical dietitian at New York's Huntington Hospital, previously told USA TODAY. While a can of prebiotic soda won't make someone consume more than the recommended daily value of fiber, too much can cause bloating, diarrhea and gas, according to the Cleveland Clinic. To reach the recommended daily value for fiber, Alfano recommended eating kimchi, sauerkraut, fermented pickles and fruits and vegetables. Pepsi's 2 New Sodas Mark the Brand's Biggest Innovation in 20 Years

It's a new cola era for PepsiCo. 2025 is brought to you by the letter "P." Protein is one of the biggest trends of the year, and shows no signs of slowing down. Then, there is, of course, pickles, the other food trend we can't seem to get enough of. And now, prebiotics, probiotics, and even postbiotics are the "P" words on everyone's lips. The Great Soda Renaissance of the 2020s has led to a boom of better-for-you sodas touting benefits such as more fiber, less sugar, and gut-friendly pre- and probiotics. Brands such as Olipop, Poppi, and SunSip have taken over shelves, and even the biggest names in soda are taking notice. In February, Coca-Cola launched Simply Pop, a new line of prebiotic sodas. A month later, PepsiCo upped the ante when it announced it was acquiring leading prebiotic soda brand, Poppi, in a whopping $1.65 billion deal. Now, Pepsi is raising the stakes in the cola wars once again with two brand-new sodas. Pepsi Is Launching New Prebiotic Cola Pepsi is ushering in a new era for PepsiCo—and for all mainstream soda brands—with the launch of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola. The soda is the first prebiotic cola in the "traditional cola category," according to a press release. It also marks the biggest innovation for the company in more than 20 years. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola is launching in two flavors, Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla, both of which are designed to deliver the same Pepsi taste you know and love. Both flavors of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola boast 3 grams of prebiotic fiber, 5 grams of cane sugar, 30 calories, and no artificial sweeteners. Curiously, a can of Poppi contains the same number of calories and grams of fiber and sugar. Perhaps PepsiCo was taking notes before it even purchased Poppi. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola will be available online first this fall before coming to grocery stores and retailers in early 2026. It will be available in 12-ounce single cans as well as in 8-packs. Now that the preeminent soda brands are getting in on the action, it's official: Better-for-you sodas are here to stay—and we're not mad about it. Pepsi introduces prebiotic cola months after Poppi acquisition

PepsiCo on Monday announced that it will launch a prebiotic cola under its namesake soda brand, starting this fall. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola comes just four months after the beverage giant announced its $1.95 billion acquisition of upstart Poppi. Soda consumption has broadly fallen over the past two decades in the U.S. But prebiotic sodas, fueled by Poppi and fellow newcomer Olipop, have won over health-conscious consumers over the past five years with their gut-health claims. The acquisition closed in May. Prior to the deal, Pepsi had reportedly aimed to launch its own functional soda under its Soulboost brand, but canceled those plans. As demand for its drinks falls domestically, Pepsi is leaning into health trends like the protein and fiber crazes to attract customers. In the second quarter, the company's North American beverage volume shrank 2%. Its namesake soda was one of the few bright spots, helped by the success of Pepsi Zero Sugar. Consumers will be able to buy Pepsi Prebiotic Cola online starting in the fall and in retailers next year. The new drink contains three grams of prebiotic fiber — one gram more than Poppi's soda, but only a third as much as Olipop's fiber content. The new Pepsi beverage also contains five grams of cane sugar. In the U.S., classic Pepsi is sweetened with corn syrup. Artificial sweeteners and high-fructose corn syrup have come under fire from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his "Make America Healthy Again" agenda. President Donald Trump, a longtime fan of aspartame-sweetened Diet Coke, claimed in a social media post on Wednesday that Coca-Cola has agreed to put "REAL Cane Sugar" back in its namesake soda, which contains corn syrup in the U.S. The company has not confirmed the announcement. For its part, Coke introduced its Simply Pop prebiotic soda brand in February to consumers on the West Coast and in the Southeast, just weeks before Pepsi announced the Poppi deal. Executives could share mroe updates on the line's performance during Coke's earnings conference call on Tuesday morning.
