Kevin Olsen returns to Florida Gators as basketball strategy and analytics director

Florida basketball is getting a familiar face back on Todd Golden's bench. Kevin Olsen is returning to Gainesville for his second stint with the Gators, serving as the director of basketball strategy and analytics and coming back after two strong seasons as an assistant coach at San Francisco. Olsen helped USF take down Saint Mary's, beat Oregon State on the road and win postseason games over Washington State and Utah Valley. Under his watch, multiple players earned first-team All-WCC honors and young talent developed into instant contributors. In 2023-24, the Dons also knocked off Minnesota and DePaul while racking up more all-conference honors. Simply put, Olsen knows how to win. Olsen was part of Golden's very first Florida staff back in 2022-23, serving as video coordinator. That year, the Gators earned a postseason berth. Now he's back with more experience. It's a smart move for the Orange and Blue. Olsen already knows Golden's system, understands what it takes to succeed in Gainesville, and has proven he can help build a program without cutting corners. Olsen's familiarity should be a plus for a Florida team trying to stand on top of the SEC pecking order. The Gators just got a little bit better–and a little bit more like the program Golden has been building since the first day he walked through the door. Elisabeth Olsen has to choose between Miles Teller and Callum Turner in Eternity, watch trailer

Ever wondered about the afterlife? What must it be like after you close your eyes for the final time? Well, the studio A24 is coming up with their own idea of an afterlife with the film Eternity, starring Miles Teller, Elisabeth Olsen, Callum Turner, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and John Early. Directed by David Freyne, the movie follows a sort of bridge between life and eternity, where the people who have just passed away must decide how they are going to spend the rest of time, and most importantly, who they are going to spend it with. Teller, who plays the character of Larry, finds himself suddenly pulling up to the 'junction,' the aforementioned bridge. The junction is filled with Wes Anderson-like colours, where Larry and his sideburns try to come to grips with the fact that he is in fact dead. He even gets appointed an 'afterlife coordinator' who explains to him the entire idea behind the junction and how he has to choose where he is going to spend eternity and with whom. Soon his wife Joan (Olsen) also joins him in the afterlife, and she seems much more accepting of the fact that her life on Earth is over. ALSO READ: Sydney Sweeney's new 'great genes' ad campaign gets criticised for being insensitive and in poor taste. Watch As the couple rejoice at the idea of getting to spend the rest of eternity with each other, they are hit with a huge twist as Olsen's ex-husband Luke (Callum Turner) also comes into the junction. The trailer shows a positive side of the afterlife and makes one wonder about the existence of such a blissful place. Judging from certain shots, it seems that the people at the junction get a chance to preview the locations before choosing their final destination, as we see Olsen spending time with Luke and Larry at different scenic locations as she tries to choose between her first love and her current husband. Both men lay it bare as Luke seems to be playing the role of the first love to perfection, while Larry tries to make his wife remember why she fell for him in the first place. A24 hasn't announced the final release date, but Eternity will be coming out in November.

High butter prices 'a good thing' for NZ

By Susan Edmunds of RNZ Butter prices might be biting at the supermarket checkout, but there's a warning that anyone hoping they'll fall should be careful what they wish for. The price of butter has increased about 50 percent over the past year, pushed up by high global dairy prices. But economists say that's actually a good thing for New Zealand. Household Economic Survey data shows that in 2023, households spent about $124 million on butter. Between 15 percent and 30 percent of households would buy butter over a one- or two-week period. But the country exported $5.2 billion worth. "It's not nearly worth trying to change the domestic butter game at the expense of our very lucrative export potential," Infometrics chief executive Brad Olsen said. "Being in China at the moment, I've been looking around here ... we are still charging more in our premium export markets than we are seeing domestically. "I mean in New Zealand, butter is $8.50 to $11 depending on who you're talking to or what shop you're going to. I've found an Anchor block in China that was only 454 grams for about $13.52. So the export stuff works for us." India is also a large producer of butter and has comparatively low prices, but Olsen said that was not comparable because farmers there were getting a subsidy of up to a third. In Australia, there was no GST on fresh food. Butter is about 7 percent of total New Zealand exports. "So yes, consumers get hit with higher butter prices in New Zealand," Olsen said. "But we make a lot more as a country from the exports that we send out overseas. And I guess you know, cause there's all this talk of, well, what happens if butter prices were lower ... I do think that there is this conception that if magically butter prices were lower, everything else would be the same too. "And that's just a complete false economy. If you had persistently lower butter prices, then there wouldn't be quite as many people farming. Or they wouldn't be the same profits from manufacturing and similar from Fonterra and what have you. That would mean there would be less money going into the economy across the country, people would have fewer jobs than they would at the moment. And so you might be paying cheaper, better prices. But you might not have a job. "That's the trade-off that, that to a degree we're talking about ... I also think we talk a lot about butter. How much butter does every household in New Zealand consume? Like how many blocks are you guys buying?" Westpac chief economist Kelly Eckhold said it was good for the country overall that dairy prices were high. "Exports of cheese is $3 billion. All these dairy products are rising for the same underlying reason - demand for milk fats is increasing. Butter and cheese in particular are the things the world wants." He said the conversation was influenced by the fact that everyone encountered the retail price but not everyone was exposed to the export earnings. "One thing to think about is the gains from the income are more narrowly shared than the costs that come to all of us. We all go to the supermarket and buy a bit of butter and cheese and milk. "But if I look at employment trends on a regional basis, you can see in the last few months the regions where jobs are growing are Canterbury, Otago, Southland, West Coast, Marlborough ... these are areas that have a much higher agricultural and dairy input. There are more jobs in those parts of the country whereas Wellington and Auckland are very weak. There aren't many dairy farms in Remuera unfortunately." He said a wider problem was not that dairy products' price was rising but that New Zealand incomes were not keeping up. "Prices are being bid up by people overseas who are wealthier than us and their incomes are growing more strongly. "That's why they can afford to pay the prices that are pushing the prices up. The question isn't should we be redistributing further the profits form those sector. The question should be what can we do to improve the incomes of Kiwis so when demand goes up overseas we can keep pace. If we can do something that gets job growth up that's unequivocally better than putting price controls on butter or cheese."

Former Iowa women's basketball star Lucy Olsen signs with WNBL's Townsville Fire

Yay!!! So excited 🤩🤩 After seldom seeing the floor so far for the Washington Mystics in her first WNBA season, former Iowa women's basketball star Lucy Olsen announced her exciting offseason plans Tuesday evening. Olsen, who was selected with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, has been serving as a depth player off the bench for Washington, where she occasionally contributes scoring outbursts. That included Olsen's 19-point performance against the Minnesota Lynx on July 3. With the Mystics' 2025 campaign still ongoing, Olsen made her offseason plans official Tuesday evening when it was announced that the former Hawkeye would be playing for the Townsville Fire in Australia's Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Given the financial incentives and opportunities to continue competing, it is commonplace for many WNBA players to play overseas or in another domestic league, such as Unrivaled, during the offseason. As Olsen joins the WNBL, she will have an excellent opportunity to develop and showcase her skills while contributing to a Fire squad that made it to the league championship last season. "We're really excited to add Lucy to our team. She's a skilled, versatile guard who can score at all three levels and has excellent vision to create for others. 'What really stood out to me was her character. Everyone I spoke to had nothing but great things to say about her work ethic and the kind of teammate she is. Lucy ticks a lot of boxes for us on and off the floor, and I know she will come in ready to work hard and contribute to our team's success," Fire head coach Shannan Seebobm said of Olsen. Given the new offseason opportunity, Olsen fully embraced the challenge by stating that Townsville's love for the game of basketball perfectly matches her own. 'The Fire organisation has a tremendous reputation here in the US and hearing how beautiful the Townsville area is has me more than excited to be joining this upcoming season! I love to play basketball and it sounds like Townsville loves basketball too – a perfect match! Let's go get the Championship," Olsen said in her statement. With fellow Mystics teammate Jade Melbourne also signed as a member of the University of Canberra (UC) Capitals, Olsen playfully joked that the two may have become "Frenemies" heading into the WNBL's 2025-26 season. @jade_melbourne does this mean we're frenemies now😒🤣 So far in her 19 games played for the Mystics, Olsen is averaging 3.7 points and 1.1 rebounds per game on 43.9% shooting from the floor, 40.0% from 3-point territory, and 90.9% from the free-throw line in 10:30 of playing time per contest. Townsville opens its 2025-26 season on Oct. 19 against the Bendigo Spirit. Ironically, the Fire's second game, scheduled on Oct. 25, will be in Canberra's AIS Arena against Melbourne and the UC Capitals.
