Igor Paixão move set to break Olympique Marseille's transfer record

According to Voetbal International, if Igor Paixão's transfer to Olympique Marseille goes through, it will be one for the French history books. The Feyenoord winger is well on his way to the French giants for what looks like their record highest transfer fee. French newspaper L'Équipe delved into Marseille's transfer history, revealing that Paixão's transfer is a record-breaking move, both in terms of the initial fee and the total amount. The fixed fee is reportedly €30 million, while there will be an additional €5 million in bonuses. The record signing based on the starting fee was Dimitri Payet in 2017, when he joined from West Ham United for €29 million, plus €1 million in bonuses. Marseille's largest total was on Braga's Vitinha. The striker was acquired in January 2023 for €32 million (€25 million, plus €7 million). The other players in the top five are Mason Greenwood and Elye Wahi. The first was signed from Manchester United a year ago for €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses, while Wahi was acquired from RC Lens in the same packaged amount. Marseille's move for Paixão is just shy of Feyenoord's most expensive outgoing transfer in Santiago Gimenez. The Mexican striker joined AC Milan for €35 million, including bonuses. It's set to be a striking return for the Rotterdam club, who previously paid just €4.5 million for Paixão when he signed from Coritiba in 2022. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield

Roma turn to Rowe after Marseille pick up Paixao

Roma are turning towards Olympique Marseille winger Jonathan Rowe, who could cost circa €20m, after Igor Paixao agreed a lucrative transfer to France. The Giallorossi had wanted an attacking wide player to suit new coach Gian Piero Gasperini and Paixao was one of the first choices. However, it quickly became apparent that the Feyenoord man was going to be too expensive, as today Olympique Marseille beat Leeds United to the deal with an offer worth €30m plus €5m in add-ons. (Photo by Ben) According to Roma are instead turning their focus towards a player whose place will be taken by Paixao. Rowe is fresh from winning the Under-21 European Championship with England and completed the transfer from Norwich City to Marseille for a total €16.5m after an initial loan. Atalanta had also been linked with the 22-year-old, seeing him as an alternative to Ademola Lookman if the Nigerian moves to Inter. The arrival of Paixao means Marseille are more likely to sell and it's reported the asking price is now €20m. Rowe scored three goals with three assists in 28 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

Olympique Marseille close to sealing loan move for Timothy Weah

Olympique Marseille are on the brink of finalising a deal to bring Juventus winger Timothy Weah to the club on a loan deal, according to RMC Sport. Marseille have moved quickly in pursuit of the versatile US international, who previously played for Paris Saint-Germain and Lille, and is enthusiastic about a return to France, prioritising Marseille over other suitors, including Nottingham Forest. Negotiations between Marseille and Juventus are for an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy. The two clubs are ironing out the final details concerning the transfer fee, with Juventus valuing Weah, who is under contract until 2028, at €15 million to €20 million. Juventus initially preferred a direct sale, but have accepted the loan-plus-obligation formula, with the final fee likely to be in the region of €15 million plus add-ons. Personal terms have long been agreed with Weah, who has committed to a five-year contract, reportedly on a salary of around €2.5 million per season Weah is keen to reignite his career after two unspectacular seasons in Turin despite making over 70 appearances. The opportunity to follow in his father George Weah's footsteps and play for Marseille also adds sentimental value to the move. Capable of filling in as either a winger or wing-back, Weah's versatility makes him a decent addition for OM as they prepare for a return to the Champions League. Roberto De Zerbi's side have already signed Conrad Jaden Egan-Riley, Angel Gomes, Jonathan Rowe, Neal Maupay, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Facundo Medina this summer. They are also close to bringing back Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Orange Velodrome after a brief spell in Saudi Arabia for the Gabonese international.
