Porsche Centre Oman signs a two-year partnership with OAA
MUSCAT: Porsche Centre Oman is investing in the future of motorsport in the Sultanate of Oman by entering into a multi-year partnership with the country's governing body of motorsport, the Oman Automobile Association (OAA), to help grow motorsports at the grass roots level. To be run under the banner of the 'Porsche Centre Oman Karting Championships Series', the commitment will cover the next two seasons of the championship. It will support motorsport in Oman and actively contribute to the development of future motor racing talent and karting in the Sultanate of Oman. 'We are proud to sponsor a project that aligns with our legacy of motorsport excellence,' said Mohamed A R Qassim, Director of Porsche Centre Oman. The championship series is distinct in that it will consist of classes to cater for both race license holders and leisure karting participants. Porsche Centre Oman will provide full branding, racing suits and financial support for licensed drivers and cash prizes to the podium winners. 'Supporting the next generation of drivers is key to Porsche Centre Oman's vision in the region and this partnership reflects our commitment to youth development and motorsport innovation in the Sultanate of Oman,' said Mohamed. The calendar season will also include a 24-hour endurance race along with other races scheduled to be taking place at the Muscat Speedway, starting with the first round of races in September. 'This new championship series for both licensed racers in Rotax Max and leisure karts marks a new era for karting in Oman,' said Sulaiman al Rawahi, Managing Director of the Oman Automobile Association (OAA). 'Partnering with Porsche Centre Oman allows us to elevate the level of competition and offer new opportunities for aspiring drivers across the country.' Supporting youth sports and building engagement within the community has long been a cornerstone of Porsche Centre Oman's philosophy. The opportunity to support the burgeoning motorsport industry and empower future generations of Omani race drivers starting at grassroots levels made an alignment with the Oman Automobile Association a natural alliance. Porsche has a long history of supporting motor racing in the Middle East with the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East being the pinnacle, showcasing 15 seasons of competition across the Gulf. Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East provides the ultimate inspiration for future Omani stars who can now begin their climb up the professional motor racing ladder on leisure karts and then the Rotax Max Challenge as part of the the Porsche Centre Oman Karting Championship Series.

600 runners take part in community running event
MUSCAT: The community running event, organised by the Oman Automobile Association in collaboration with the Oman Athletics Association (OAA), witnessed a large turnout from various groups, with approximately 600 runners of all ages participating. Supported by several private companies, the event was one of the most prominent community sports gatherings in Oman. It aimed to promote a culture of sports, facilitate knowledge exchange and create an environment that encourages continued athletic achievements. The event featured three main races. In the men's 5-kilometre race, Nader Ismail secured first place, followed by Hassan Hisham in second, and Salim al Rashdi in third. In the women's category, Arlene claimed first place, with Gina al Hibal in second and Hanan al Jahmani in third. Meanwhile, in the family race, Al Jabri's team took first place, followed by Al Rawahi's team in second and Suhail's team in third. The primary goal was to create an inclusive sporting environment that encourages everyone to adopt an active lifestyle. The event also included an interactive panel discussion featuring a distinguished line-up of Omani athletes. Participants included runner Saleh al Saidi, coach Haitham al Salhi, runner Barakat al Harthy, runner Yaqoub al Nadabi, mountaineer Nadhira al Harthy, and runner Fahd al Abri. The discussion was moderated by Riyadh al Hinai. The athletes shared their experiences in the world of sports, discussing the physical and mental challenges they faced, such as injuries, pressure and periods of limited support, and how they overcame these obstacles with determination and perseverance. They also highlighted the importance of continuous self-improvement and the role of sports in shaping character, instilling discipline, and fostering commitment. The panellists encouraged young athletes to pursue their ambitions and strive for success. The event was one of the most prominent community sports gatherings in Oman. ALL-ROUND PARTICIPATION OAA Chairman Said al Hajri expressed his delight at the success of the community event. He noted the widespread participation, which included professional and amateur runners as well as families who saw the event as an opportunity to strengthen family bonds through sports. He explained that the event featured a 1.5-km family relay race in addition to the 5-km race, which was open to all running enthusiasts. The primary goal was to create an inclusive sporting environment that encourages everyone to adopt an active lifestyle. Al Hajri added: "Registration was open for only four days, yet we reached 600 participants, reflecting the strong passion for sports in our community. This widespread participation underscores the importance of physical activity across all age groups and reinforces the concept of sports as a way of life, especially among the younger generations." 'Our young golfers demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in Jeddah, making history by winning the first-ever GCC U18 team gold,' he said. 'The recent successes of our teams reflect the strength and future of golf in Oman. The Golf Lounge will serve as a key training hub for these young athletes.' Among the honoured golfers was Adam Al Barwani, who, alongside his teammates, brought home the gold medal for the Under-18 category. He also claimed a silver medal in the individual category at the championship. 'It's an honour to be recognised alongside my teammates,' said Al Barwani.
