Oman: Dakhliyah records 415,000 tourists visiting in 2024

Nizwa – The Governorate of Dakhliyah welcomed more than 415,000 visitors in 2024, marking a growth of over 32% compared to the previous year, according to data released by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. Home to iconic heritage sites such as Nizwa Fort, Jabreen Castle and the Unesco World Heritage site of Bahla Fort, the governorate continues to solidify its position as one of the country's key cultural tourism hubs. Fakhriya bint Khamis al Ghassaniyah, Director of the Department of Tourism Product Development and Experiences at the ministry, confirmed that 2025 will see the rollout of an ambitious tourism development plan focused on diversifying tourism offerings and enriching visitor experiences. The ministry, in coordination with governors' offices across the sultanate, is implementing a series of qualitative projects as part of its wider tourism strategy. 'These projects aim to enhance the quality of the tourism product and broaden the range of experiences available to visitors, positioning Oman as a well-rounded and integrated tourist destination,' said Fakhriya. She added that the ministry remains committed to promoting cultural tourism as a cornerstone of its diversification strategy, with a strong focus on preserving and celebrating national identity. In line with this, the ministry has launched the Omani Food and Culinary Tourism programme, which includes initiatives such as documenting traditional Omani cuisine and developing culinary tourism itineraries. These experiences feature guided visits to traditional kitchens and restaurants serving authentic local dishes. 'The culinary programme not only highlights Omani gastronomy as a unique tourism attraction but also boosts the local economy,' Fakhriya said.

Oman hotel revenue hits $284m as visitor numbers up 8.6%

Oman's revenue from three to five-star hotels by the end of April 2025, reached OR109,213,000 ($283.7m), according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). This is an increase of 17.3 per cent compared to OR93,094,000 ($242m) during the same period in 2024. The statistics indicate that this growth is attributed to an 8.6 per cent rise in the total number of hotel guests, recording 831,751 guests by the end of April 2025, compared to 766,153 guests in the corresponding period in 2024. Oman tourism growth Additionally, the occupancy rate increased from 53.4 per cent by the end of April 2024 compared to 61.1 per cent by end of April 2025, marking a 14.4 per cent growth. The number of guests from Oceania surged by 57.8 per cent, totalling 18,124 visitors, followed by Africa with a 57.6 per cent increase, reaching 5,993 guests. European guests rose by 19.9 per cent, totalling 314,535 visitors. Meanwhile, guests from the Americas increased by 19.1 per cent, reaching 28,843 visitors, while GCC nationals saw a 12.6 per cent increase, totalling 53,642 guests. Asian nationalities recorded a 5.4 per cent rise, with 114,426 visitors. Conversely, the statistics revealed a 0.7 per cent decline in Omani guests, totalling 238,895 visitors by the end of April 2025.

Muscat: Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) announced robust financial and operational results for 2024, reaffirming its central role in advancing tourism development and sustainable economic growth in the Sultanate of Oman. The Group achieved a net profit of OMR25.2 million with revenues surpassing OMR58.3 million, reflecting its operational efficiency and institutional excellence. During its recent meeting, Omran Group's Board of Directors reviewed these accomplishments and discussed ongoing financial and operational developments. The Board emphasised the Group's continued commitment to supporting economic diversification efforts and enhancing quality tourism investments across Oman. The financial results demonstrate Omran Group's success in attracting strategic investments, including foreign direct investment exceeding OMR156 million in 2024. This achievement aligns with Oman Vision 2040's objectives to increase foreign investment inflows and expand various economic sectors' contributions to GDP. In the hospitality sector, Omran Group strengthened its operational performance by welcoming 820,365 guests across its hotel properties in 2024, representing 6% growth compared to the previous year. The Group achieved an average occupancy rate of 45%, marking a 2.6% year-on-year increase. The year also saw the official opening of JW Marriott Hotel Muscat, which has become a distinguished addition to Oman's luxury hospitality landscape. As part of its strategy to position Oman as a premier global tourism destination and attract world-class hospitality brands, Omran Group announced several landmark projects.
