Shalate Sekhabi bids farewell to House of Zwide's Shoki

It's the end of an era for House of Zwide fans. For the better part of four years, actress Shalate Sekhabi has donned the character Shoki, best friend and confidante to Nefisa Mkhabela's Ona Molapo on eTV's House of Zwide. The show's fifth season started after the fourth season ended with major cliffhanger where Shoki is involved in a car accident with Wanda Zuma's Nkosi, resulting in her succumbing to her injuries. This marks the end of Shalate's run on the show after a whirlwind four seasons of heartbreak, explosive drama and finding love. Taking to Instagram, Shalate penned a heartfelt message of gratitude as hangs up Shoki's character. 'My heart is filled with so much gratitude. Farewell Shoki! ... thank you so much to everyone who has embraced and loved Shoki over the years. It's because of this character that I've become a household name and got my start in this industry,' Shalate writes. 'Shoki has changed my life beyond anything I could have ever imagined and the love from all the viewers online and in person is the most amazing thing to come out of all of this. This is very bittersweet for me because I will miss playing Shoki, I played her for four years and most of you all know me as her!' Shoki grew from a young and bright-eyed fledgling fashion designer from Tembisa to becoming the face of the House of Zwide line. Weekday evenings had viewers on the edge of their seats with drama-filled storylines like the intense love triangle between Shoki, Mampho (played by Gaisang Noge) and Nkosi. In the end, true love prevailed as Shoki and Nkosi tied the knot in a lavish and tearjerking ceremony. The 24-year-old actress and singer's latest role is on the Netflix original series Go!, where she pulls viewers' heartstrings as the character Nthabi. 'This is truly the end of an era but all chapters have to end at some point,' pens Shalate.
