Roman Kemp ‘calls out' Olly Murs after awkward on-stage moment

The One Show star was reflecting on a recent appearance alongside Olly Murs after the pair competed in a celebrity darts tournament in London The One Show's Roman Kemp has called out Olly Murs after the pair recently appeared together on stage in front of thousands of fans. ‌ Earlier this month, celebrities were paired up with darts pros as they went head-to-head to see who would come out on top in a game of darts at the Hyde Park Darts Championship. ‌ The new competition, created by the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation), saw Roman join fellow celebs including Olly Murs, Dion Dublin, and Joe Swash, who were each partnered with a darts pro such as Luke Littler and Luke Humphries. ‌ Reflecting on the eagerly fought competition during a recent episode of his You About? podcast with Tom Grennan, Roman recalled his impressive display, throwing two "triple 20s." After narrowly missing out on the top spot—making it all the way to the finals—the radio host shared how Joe Swash and his partner, Fallon Sherrock, came out as deserved winners. ‌ Despite that, he revealed that the celebs had initially been lulled into a false sense of security by Joe before he went on to win the competition: "He kind of hustled us a little bit, because in the little area beforehand, we were all just practicing and he was c**p." However, he was less than impressed with how prepared one of his fellow celebrities was for the event, saying: "I'm going to call Olly out here. He turned up with his own shirt that had his name on it, all over it." He added: "Then his own darts—weighted darts—that had his name on them." ‌ But despite coming fully prepared for the occasion, Roman noted that the singer "went out first," adding, "So it was like, Olly's got to step that up." Away from trying his hand at darts, Roman has been a prominent figure in broadcasting in recent years. After originally co-hosting the Capital Breakfast show, last year he swapped radio for TV when he began co-hosting several programmes, including The One Show. Alongside his slew of hosting roles, many will also know him for his third-place finish on I'm A Celeb in 2019, as well as playing alongside fellow celebrities for England in Soccer Aid earlier this year. Roman has also used his platform to explore issues surrounding mental health, including the release of his BBC series Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency, which launched in 2021. He is also set to launch a new country-wide mental health initiative next month.

But it will be the last time the former professional footballer will appear on the list, as he has now left the BBC following a string of controversies. It means the likes of comedian Michael McIntyre , The One Show's Alex Jones, music presenter Jools Holland, Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, and stars of shows including Eastenders and Doctor Who are not included - despite being probable high earners. The figures we are using are the salary brackets the BBC employees fall into, spanning £4,999 of earnings. Here are the 15 stars that took home the most in 2024/25. 1 . Jermaine Jenas' new career gets underway one year after BBC sext sacking and split from wife

Jermaine Jenas' new career gets underway one year after BBC sext sacking and split from wife Jermaine Jenas says he has adopted a new approach to work as he looks to rebuild his media career almost a year on from the scandal that saw him sacked by the BBC Jermaine Jenas has a clear plan for his career after being sacked by the BBC (Image: The Dressing Room Podcast ) Jermaine Jenas has detailed his plans to get his media career back on track following the sexting scandal that cost him his BBC job. The former One Show presenter was sacked by the broadcaster last year following complaints about workplace conduct. Jenas apologised to two former female colleagues for sending "inappropriate messages", although he insisted they were 'between two consenting adults'. He also stepped away from talkSPORT presenting duties, only to return to the station in February this year, insisting he was "taking responsibility" for his actions and had become a "better person". ‌ Jenas, who played for Newcastle and Tottenham in the Premier League, has also split from his wife Ellie Penfold and is eager to make a fresh start, both professionally and personally. The 42-year-old addressed his plans, which include a new podcast, during an appearance on The Dressing Room Podcast with fellow ex-footballers Joe Cole, Carlton Cole and Wayne Bridge. ‌ He said: "You eventually land in a place, where I am now, where I still feel like I'm evolving and growing. But I am happy, yeah. When I first went [to myself], 'Right, what do you want to do?' control was my big thing. No one's ever gonna control my life again. "Whether I go back into broadcasting, whether it's with TNT, or I go somewhere else and get back involved in television, it will all be on my terms as to how much I want to do, when I want to do it. Jenas and Ellie Penfold are divorcing (Image: WireImage ) Article continues below "And that's allowed me to start developing my own stuff as well, which is my bag anyway... I've filmed five documentaries, I've done all these social issues documentaries, I've done TV for God knows how long. I've gained enough experience to be able to run my own stuff now." One of those projects is a new podcast Jenas has started with heavyweight boxer Derek Chisora called 'Let Me Tell You Something with Derek and JJ', which launched at the end of June. "Honestly, it's been great," said the 21-cap former England international. "So I set up my own production company, which I'd been wanting to do for years. Me and Derek have been good mates for about 10 years. ‌ "I know the image I had in the media, which was what was eating me alive a little bit. This pristine, corporate, perfect [person]. You know, family life, wife [and] kids, and it's not sustainable. So they put you in that box, but I'm like, 'That's not me.' Then you're on The One Show, and it gets even more. Jenas says wants more control over his career (Image: The Dressing Room Podcast ) "So in my mind, I knew I wanted to do a podcast, and I was thinking about it with Derek for ages, because I know two sides to Derek. Derek's rogue No.1, he is. But he's also got this other side, where [the] guy likes being at home, loves his kids more than anything, like we all do, loves his missus, and he just knows how to sell fights." Article continues below He continued by saying if his co-host needs to "throw a table at someone's head" to get attention for a bout, that's exactly what he'll do, a nod to the time Chisora infamously hurled a table towards Dillian Whyte during a press conference ahead of their 2016 fight. Chisora went on to lose a split decision. Jenas outlined the concept of their podcast, focusing on sharing tales of guests' "wins, losses and the legacy you leave behind." To date, two episodes have been released, with the first featuring comedian Katherine Ryan as the guest.

Alex Jones names The One Show co-host who 'taught her everything'

Alex Jones names The One Show co-host who 'taught her everything' Carmarthenshire's Alex Jones was thrown in the deep end soon after taking up the reins of The One Show, after Jason Manford's sudden departure, but one BBC colleague helped her through Alex underwent a massive makeover ahead for her first One Show appearance (Image: Karwai Tang, WireImagevia Getty Images ) Welsh TV star Alex Jones has told the story of how she came to present The One Show, and credits the BBC show's Friday presenter, Chris Evans, with teaching her "everything" she needed to know about anchoring a live television programme. Speaking to Mark Wogan on his Spooning podcast, Alex explained that she had initially been contacted by The One Show producers in 2010, after then-hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Lampard had both decided to quit. ‌ She explained that, at first, she hadn't taken the phone call about the job very seriously, not realising that she had been shortlisted as a potential presenter. ‌ She was joined for her initial One Show run by Jason Manford, with Chris Evans filling in on Fridays (Image: John Phillips, UK Press via Getty Images ) Assuming that the BBC wanted her to just report on a few segments, she turned them down, explaining that she was "too busy" with other work: "I was doing a surfing programme, a poker programme, a holiday programme, a fashion programme, and just in general, like, a bit of a chat show as well on BBC Wales. So I was quite busy, and I thought they meant to be a reporter." However, when the voice on the other end of the phone informed Alex she was being considered as a potential presenter, she decided that it was someone "winding her up," and put the phone down. Article continues below It was only later that she was persuaded the offer was genuine: "We did six weeks of auditions with various people. And ultimately myself and Jason Manford got the job." Alex enjoyed an easy on-screen rapport with Chris (Image: Eamonn McCormack, WireImagevia Getty Images ) Alex had a makeover, involving a haircut and complete wardrobe rethink to make her look less like a surfer chick and more like a tea-time presenter, and began her brief on-screen partnership with Jason. ‌ She recalled how she and Jason were booked into a posh London hotel at first, with neither of them having a permanent residence in London at the time: "Jason and I didn't know anybody in London when we came, so we were like two students ... "We lived in this hotel in Sloane Square, which was so weird. And I remember that shepherd's pie was £37, and we couldn't believe how expensive it was. We were living this funny life where we didn't know anybody. She credits Chris with teaching her 'everything' about live TV (Image: Simon James, GC Imagesvia Getty Images ) Article continues below "And after each show, we'd go to the cinema like two kids, because we didn't know anybody who were far away from our families. And then we'd eat this expensive shepherd's pie and complain to the BBC that it was £37 pounds, and why aren't you giving us any expenses?" But it was her rapport with Jason's Friday afternoon stand-in, Chris Evans that really helped her find her feet, she says: "I still have a real soft spot for him. And he, actually, was the one that taught me everything I know." After Jason left the show, Chris made it his business to help Alex feel at home in the new London media world she had found herself in: "We just got on like a house on fire and had the best time. And just every Friday, we'd go out after the show. That's when I sort of settled into London, I think," she recalled.
