Chaos at Silverstone: Two Crashes Bring FP3 to a Dramatic Halt

This prevented several drivers, including seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, from doing a second run on soft tires. The first red flag of the session was triggered after Oliver Bearman lost some of the bodywork of his Haas. However, he then crashed in the pit lane, damaging the nose of his VF25 F1 car, which has has subsequently been handed a 10-place grid penalty for. The second incident saw Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto spin out on the kerbs and go off the track at high speed, breaking his front suspension. The incident brought out the red flags. While the driver seemed okay, the car took significant damage. Now, Sauber has a short time to prepare the car for qualifying. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was fastest, followed by Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen. Max Verstappen of the Netherlands driving the (1) Oracle Red Bull Racing RB21 leads Carlos Sainz of Spain driving the (55) Williams FW47 Mercedes past some debris left after Oliver Bearman of Great Britain driving the (87) Haas F1 VF-25 Ferrari crashed during final practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone Circuit on July 05, 2025 in Northampton, England. MoreThe FIA stewards confirmed the 10-place grid penalty for Bearman, stating: "The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 87 (Oliver Bearman), the team representative and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, telemetry, team radio and in-car video evidence. "The session was red flagged at 12.33:57. Car 87 had slowed down for the red flag and as he was approaching Turn 15 accelerated significantly to race pace and entered the pit entry road at 260kph. He lost control of the car in the pit entry road and crashed into the barriers. "Art. 37.6 (a) of the Formula One Sporting Regulations and Art. 2.5.4.1 (b) of Appendix H of the International Sporting Code require that when a red flag is shown 'all cars must immediately reduce speed and proceed slowly back to the pit lane'. "It is beyond doubt that the driver of Car 87 did not proceed slowly back to the pit lane when he accelerated to simulate entering into the pit entry road under race conditions. In fact, we looked at a previous in-lap under normal racing conditions and found that he was faster in this lap, under a red flag. "To make matters worse, he lost control of the car and crashed into the barriers while at speed. The driver informed us that he misjudged the fact that his brakes were not warm because the lap was done slowly, due to the red flag. While this may have been a factor contributing to the crash, we did not consider it to be a mitigating factor. "We accordingly penalised him per the penalty guidelines to a drop of 10 grid places with 4 penalty points." Last year, Verstappen led 42 of the 70 laps in this race after starting second. He beat Lando Norris by 3.879 seconds. Norris led eight laps while George Russell, who rounded out the podium, ended the race with 20 laps led. Russell was on the pole for the race. On Friday, Verstappen was the fastest driver in FP1. That wasn't a shock, but Williams teammates Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr. being second and third was. McLaren was seventh (Norris) and 14th (Oscar Piastri) in FP1. In FP2, both McLarens found speed, with Norris going second-quickest behind George Russel and Piastri going sixth. Meanwhile, Verstappen dropped down the speed chart all the way to ninth. Piastri currently leads the point standings with 186 points, 10 ahead of his McLaren teammate Norris. Piastri has five wins this season while Norris and Verstappen each have two. Verstappen is still in the title hunt with 137 points, but it would be a bit of a shock to see him catch up to the McLaren duo. Stranger things have happened, though, and the Canadian Grand Prix has been good to the defending champion. Don't count him out on Sunday. Imola F1 Circuit Releases Statement After 2026 Calendar Exit

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. With the growing global demand to host Formula One races, the sport decided to drop Italy's iconic Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola from the 2026 calendar to make way for Madrid. With the number of Grands Prix in a year capped at 24, F1 faces a challenging task to retain historic circuits while introducing new venues from across the world. While a plan for rotational circuits is on the cards, the absence of Imola from the 2026 calendar raised eyebrows. Now, Imola Mayor Marco Panieri has issued a statement, revealing that the announcement was not a surprise, and hopes that the circuit will be included in the calendar in the future. He said: Max Verstappen of the Netherlands driving the (1) Oracle Red Bull Racing RB21 leads Oscar Piastri of Australia driving the (81) McLaren MCL39 Mercedes George Russell of Great Britain driving the (63) Mercedes AMG Petronas... Max Verstappen of the Netherlands driving the (1) Oracle Red Bull Racing RB21 leads Oscar Piastri of Australia driving the (81) McLaren MCL39 Mercedes George Russell of Great Britain driving the (63) Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team W16 Lando Norris of Great Britain driving the (4) McLaren MCL39 Mercedes and the rest of the field on the opening lap during the F1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on May 18, 2025 in Imola, Italy. More"The provisional calendar of the Formula 1 Grand Prix for the 2026 season has been announced, from which Imola is excluded. "This is news that we were aware of and that understandably generates questions, disappointment and a sense of bitterness on the outside, because in recent years our territory has proven to be able to host an extraordinary event with record numbers. "In fact, the Grand Prix in Imola was one of the most loved and appreciated by fans and drivers, as was also forcefully demonstrated in the days following the event, and its uniqueness in the world was evident: that of uniting the race on the track with the surrounding territory, starting from a historic center to be experienced. "However, we want to be very clear: this news is by no means the final word. For the Region and the territory, the path undertaken by Imola and the Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell'Emilia-Romagna does not end here. "We are and were aware of the complexity of the dynamics linked to the calendar and the picture was very complicated from the beginning. The contract signed in 2021 – which few believed possible at the time – envisaged the stable return of the Gran Premio to Imola until 2025. "As the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipality of Imola, among the promoting partners, we have truly done everything that could be done in this phase." The statement also confirmed that funds were allotted for the 2026 season to make up for the Grand Prix in 2023 that was cancelled due to floods. The mayor added: "Furthermore, the territory, as the Emilia-Romagna Region and as the Municipality of Imola / Consorzio territoriale had confirmed its availability for over a year and allocated the necessary resources in the budget also for 2026, as had been requested by the other institutional and sporting partners after the commitment made to recover next year the missed 2023 edition due to the dramatic flood events. "This territory, when it makes a commitment, is used to respecting it and being ready when needed: as in 2020, when, in a world blocked by COVID, the Imola circuit made itself available to help a Formula 1 in difficulty. "However, this is not the time for controversy, buck-passing and resignation. Now is the time for everyone to take responsibility and resume discussions for a return to the calendar. This is why in recent days, since May 26, we have asked the Government and the sports authority for an Institutional Round Table to precisely examine the terms and methods of support and joint work to bring the Formula 1 Grand Prix back to Imola. "To those who live and love Imola, Emilia-Romagna and this Grand Prix, we say that in a moment in which it would be easy to give in to useless polemics and disappointment, it is instead the time for tenacity and increasingly constructive commitment from everyone. The game does not end here and up until now we have done things that only a few years ago seemed impossible. "We continue to believe in it, with conviction and clarity, with the pride of a territory that, together with other institutional partners, has demonstrated its ability to dream big and concretely build opportunities." It remains to be seen if Imola will find a spot on the F1 calendar in 2027.

F1 Journalist Calls Out Body Shaming in Bold Social Media Statement

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Formula One journalist Lee McKenzie has taken a bold stance against online hate on Instagram. McKenzie wrote how she was targeted for her appearance at last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, which prompted her to turn off comments. Presenting for Channel 4, the 47-year-old revealed that she hardly shares her personal life updates on social media, but the body-shaming comments she received pushed her to take a stand and admit that she had undergone surgery last month due to ongoing health issues. Calling out perpetrators who were "women and men alike," she firmly stated that not every opinion about someone's appearance needs to be shared, especially when it could affect a person at a deeper level. MoreFortunately, McKenzie confirmed that her health has been improving and stressed that she would soon be hitting the gym, but only for herself. Her Instagram post read: "I've been thinking about whether I should post this but I will as it's not just about me, it's for all women and men too. "Last month I went into hospital for an operation and I've been struggling with some health issues for a while now. "As you see on here I'm a private person and I post about my work, not too much about life outside of work. I don't need or want attention or validation. But the comments about my appearance and weight at the Spanish Grand Prix have been horrific. I've had to turn off comments on my social media. It's worth saying they came from women and men alike. "If you don't like what someone wears or looks like on television, feel free to think about it but why send it to them? Why contact someone to be deliberately rude? I'm a journalist and I'm good at my job and I'm furious that this affects me. But it does and there will be people out there getting similar abuse that are not as strong as me. Don't do it. "The good news is that a larger operation that I thought I was going to get isn't needed at the moment and things can be treated with medication. Many people have this. It's not about being unwell. It's about the vile comments from women and men commenting on my appearance. "My health is improving and I'm back at the gym. For me. Not for anyone else. Think before you write to someone." Online hate has been a topic of discussion in recent weeks. Newsweek Sports reported how Alpine driver Franco Colapinto's fans targeted Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda for an on-track incident with the Argentinian. Tsunoda stressed, "At some point F1 should say something" if it crossed a line in the future.
