Tourists are leaving guns in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, police report
GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — Tourists this season have forgotten more than just their toothbrushes and chargers as they pack up to head home. According to a Facebook post from the GSPD, the department has been called 39 times since March 1, 2025, in regard to forgotten firearms. 'This discussion isn't about gun rights or the Constitution. It's about RESPONSIBILITY—preventing avoidable tragedies,' the post read. 'As you pack up to head home, please remember the beach motto: LEAVE ONLY FOOTPRINTS!' ACAP third-grade test results released — how Baldwin and Mobile schools scored (complete list)

(WKRG) — The Alabama Comprehensive Assessment of Progress third-grade scores have been released by the Alabama State Department of Education. Santa Rosa County woman accused of attacking husband with hammer now in memory care facility According to the results, Orange Beach and Satsuma city schools are the only school districts in the viewing area that had 100% of their students make above the cut-off score, which is 444. The 2019 Alabama Literacy Act was created to help improve reading skills and ensure that students are reading on grade level by the end of the third grade. In Mobile County, 3,891 third-graders were tested, with 626 of those being below grade level and 3,265 being on or above grade level. As for Baldwin County, 2,395 third-grade students took the assessment. 246 students scored below level and 2,149 students scored on or above level. Wolf Bay drowning victim identified
UPDATE (6/10 11:15 a.m.): Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials have identified the man whose body was recovered from Wolf Bay near Sapling Point on Sunday, June 8. 55-year-old Dewayne N. Stephens of Orange Beach went missing around 3:45 p.m. Sunday after he jumped in the water off of a 2023 Bentley Legacy 200 Cruise pontoon boat. Stephens' body was recovered around 10:15 p.m. near where he entered the water. UPDATE (3:40 p.m.): News 5 is learning more about a drowning in Wolf Bay that left a man dead. Orange Beach Police Department officials said they, along with the marine police, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Alabama Marine Resources and the Orange Beach Fire Department were called to Wolf Bay around 4 p.m. on June 8 for a report of a swimmer in distress. Officers arrived and said they were able to find that the man jumped off his boat and did not come back out from under the water. OBPD officials said they were not able to find the man when they arrived, but that Daphne Search and Rescue was eventually able to locate and recover his body with the help of other agencies. PREVIOUS REPORTING BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A body has been recovered in Wolf Bay, has learned. According to law enforcement, a 55-year-old man jumped from a boat into the bay. Columbia Southern University hosting job fair in Orange Beach
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WKRG) — Columbia Southern University is hosting a job fair for open positions at the school. UPDATE: ALEA IDs murder suspect arrested in Baldwin after chase that closed interstate for hours According to a CSU news release, the fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 3 at the school, located at 21982 University Lane in Orange Beach. The event is being organized by the school's Department of Human Resources and seeks to fill positions that are currently open or will be open in the next few months, the release said. Attendees will have the opportunity to network, as well as apply and interview for jobs during the event, the release said. A high school diploma or GED is a must for anyone wishing to participate in the job fair. 'Columbia Southern University encourages local job seekers to register, including recent high school graduates, college students, trade or vocational school graduates or professionals seeking career changes,' the release said. Orange Beach Middle and High School to have virtual classes Friday because of illness
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WKRG) — Orange Beach Middle and High School will have virtual classes Friday after several students and teachers got sick Thursday. 3 Mobile County men arrested in FBI-led 'Operation Restore Justice' An Orange Beach City Schools Facebook post said a staffing shortage was caused by what was 'believed to be related to an illness.' Superintendent Randy Wilkes told News 5 that 30 students and staff were out on Thursday from a virus they believed came from food brought into the school. 'As the safety and well-being of students and staff remain the top priority, Orange Beach City Schools has contacted the appropriate health authorities, and the situation is currently under review,' the post said. According to the post, students scheduled to take Advanced Placement tests in Economics and U.S. History will report to campus as scheduled. All other OBMHS students are to check their Google Classroom tonight for their assignments, and staff will work from home unless told otherwise by their immediate supervisor. Wilkes said the school will be put through a deep clean before students return on Monday. No illnesses of this kind were reported at Orange Beach Elementary School, so those students and staff should report to school as usual.
