Clemson football legend reportedly retiring from NFL

A Clemson football legend is retiring after eight seasons in the NFL. Former Tigers wide receiver Mike Williams is hanging up his cleats after an NFL career spent primarily with the Los Angeles Chargers. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news, which the Chargers seemed to confirm shortly afterwards in a message of thanks posted to the team's official social media accounts. Williams helped Clemson to its first national championship in 25 years in January 2017 with a monstrous performance against Alabama in that year's title game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Williams had eight catches for 94 yards and a touchdown in the Tigers' 35-31 victory over Nick Saban's Crimson Tide. His fourth quarter included a four-yard touchdown catch from Deshaun Watson with 14 minutes to play that pulled Clemson to within three at 24-21, and a 26-yard catch with 5:19 left as the Tigers drove for the go-ahead score. On the game-winning drive of a frantic fourth quarter, Williams' one-handed 24-yard catch over Anthony Averett moved Clemson into Alabama territory, and he drew a critical pass interference call on Averett that set the Tigers up with first-and-goal at the 2-yard line with 6 seconds left. Watson then hit Hunter Renfrow for the game-winner ('Orange Crush') with 1 second left on the clock. Over his eight seasons in the NFL, Williams caught 330 passes for 5,104 receiving yards (15.5 AVG) and 32 touchdowns, most of them with the Chargers. He spent last season between the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers, finishing with 21 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown. Williams ranks fourth in all-time receiving yards in Clemson history with 2,727 yards behind Sammy Watkins' 3,391, Deandre Hopkins' 3,020, and Aaron Kelly (2,733). He also ranks second in school history in receiving touchdowns (21) and seventh in total receptions (177). Williams was the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Orange Crush trademark holder gets head start on permit app, but gets denied for now

Shortly after the newly permitted Orange Crush Festival came and went with less fanfare and angst than in years past, Orange Crush trademark holder George Turner submitted the first permit application for the 2026 event. Although the permit was denied by city staff at the end of May, the action does not mean that the event won't be permitted by next April. Orange Crush had existed as a unpermitted event on Tybee Island since the early-nineties, when Savannah State University cut ties with the Spring Break event after a dozen arrests, a stabbing and a drowning. The gathering, marketed to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) on the east coast, was kept alive through word of mouth. Earlier this year, Tybee Island City Council approved a permit after Orange Crush Florida CEO and organizer Steven Smalls who worked with Turner secured the permit. Originally proposed in December 2024 as a three-day event, Smalls and Turner eventually negotiated with city staff to secure a permit for a one-day event with a single stage and agreed to meet several other conditions set by council. Though the event this year went smoothly, tension seemed to be brewing between Turner and Smalls. Turner stopped attending meetings with staff leading up the event and wasn't present the day of. Small, the permit holder who attended the event, said he felt Orange Crush was a success and hoped to do it the same way, although more thoughtfully, in 2026. In the days following Orange Crush 2025, Turner began demanding $50,000 per year for a licensing agreement for the use of the Orange Crush name or $350,000 to purchase and transfer the trademark in emails sent to media. Turner also said he sent a cease-and-desist letter to Smalls and that Smalls would no longer be an organizer for the Orange Crush Festival unless they reached an agreement by May 1. On April 27, Turner submitted to the City of Tybee Island a special event permit application for a three-day event, April 17-19, 2026, on the beach just north of the pier. In his permit application, Turner proposed an event with the 'same exact layout as Orange Crush 2025, but three days instead of only one day.' He then sent more than 20 emails modifying plans for the event in the application, estimated City Manager Bret Bell. A few days later on May 5, Smalls submitted a separate special event permit application for an event called 'Crush Reloaded,' which was proposed for April 18-19, 2026, at the same location on the beach. On May 23, Bell informed Turner by letter that his application had been denied in accordance with city ordinances as outlined below: The feasibility of the event layout 'exactly' as Orange Crush 2025 cannot be determined at this time due to ongoing significant erosion of the beach and the possible further impact from the upcoming hurricane season. Tybee is not able to permit a three-day event, because the need for multiple days of law enforcement and emergency personnel is not feasible for reasons of resource availability. Turner had issued news releases and made other statements to the press indicating that the city manager and mayor had given 'verbal approval' for a three-day music festival in 2026. No verbal or written approval had been given for the event, and it is against the ordinance to promote any special event without a permit. Turner followed up asking for an appeal of the denied permit, indicating that he was willing to modify the duration and event layout, if needed, and had not intended to misrepresent any approvals. He also requested 'reasonable accommodations' in the application process given that he is '100% permanently and totally disabled veteran' and the trademark holder. Day of recap: 'This is just college students having a good time;' Orange Crush one-day crowd about 7,000 By the numbers: Fewer people attended Orange Crush, and police made fewer arrests 'The city would be in a better position to assess beach conditions following the most active part of the hurricane season,' Bell said in the memo. 'The City would then receive presentations from each applicant, and make a decision at that time, which could then be appealed.' Since both applications appeared to be incomplete and competing, Bell proposed that both Turner and Smalls withdraw their appeal requests in a letter sent to them on May 29, and spend time pulling together a final application for submission on Oct. 3. Smalls withdrew his permit, but Turner declined to withdraw his appeal, before eventually relenting. Bell said in an interview that they don't know what the condition of the beach will be like in April — last hurricane season took a chunk off the beach after back-to-back named storms in September. Tybee Island is slated for another beach renourishment, to dump about 1.5 million cubic yards of sand on the beach, but that project would not begin until the end of 2026. I'm not good at golf — but these 3 products make me look like I am

Golf is a game for everyone. It doesn't matter if you're as good as Scottie Scheffler or just starting out. That's what makes it such a wonderful activity. Every golfer reaches a phase where they're not quite a beginner anymore but they're still not good (at least not as good as they think they could be). That's where I am as a higher-handicap golfer a few years into my golf journey. But just because my handicap is high, doesn't mean I can't show up to course looking like I know what I'm doing. Today, I'm going to talk about two products I use every single round that make it seem like I know what I am doing (and one that just makes me look cool). Check them out and you'll be glad you did. I feel like I've been shouting from the rooftops about this rangefinder for the last couple of months, ever since I first saw it at the PGA Show. The CaddyTalk Cube is wonderful for those cart-path-only rounds since it can triangulate the distance from the ball to the flag without you standing over the ball. If you've played on a rainy day, you know how hard it is to pick the right club from the cart. This rangefinder solves that problem. Sure, cart-path-only is still three of the worst words you can hear before your round, but this device makes it less painful. On top of all that, it's just a good rangefinder. It features slope settings that can be turned off for tournaments, and it's small and compact enough to carry anywhere. It's currently my favorite rangefinder, and it'll probably be yours too, once you try it. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. This rangefinder is a game-changer for cart-path-only rounds, plus it offers accurate distance measurements with slope. It's not too expensive for a high-end, feature-packed rangefinder, too. Your buddies will think you have a superpower with the triangulation features, so even if you stink at golf, you'll be the best at giving distances. I have this bag in the now-sold-out Pink Lemonade color, and it's stunning. Every time I get paired with random golfers, they compliment the golf bag and ask about it. If nothing else, it's a good conversation starter when you get paired with other players. However, the bag isn't just about looking good; it also offers all the key functionality you could ever want. It features multiple pockets, a 5-way or 14-way top, super comfortable straps for carrying, and much more. No matter how many golf bags I test for our best golf bag buying guide, this one remains my favorite. Every detail is thoughtfully placed, and the build quality is high. Currently, I'd recommend the Orange Crush color if you want a bag that stands out, like the one I have. However, all the colors are nice-looking, and there's one that'll suit your style. This is simply the greatest golf bag I've tested so far (and I've tried at least a dozen). It has all the features you could want, from a magnetic handle to a small pouch for Zyn (or other small gadgets) and then some. And perhaps most importantly for a golf bag, it looks gorgeous. We've covered the three best golf apps for Apple Watch, and Arccos is the winner for me despite its high price tag. And while you can use it without an Apple Watch, either through your phone or the company's Link, I think Apple Watch is the optimal way to use it. Sure, you can use a dedicated golf watch like the Garmin Approach S50, but I think the Apple Watch delivers a better overall experience for both golf and daily life. I also think the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is the best choice because it offers the longest battery life (GPS apps like Arccos drain the Apple Watch's battery), but any modern model will work well. The data offered by Arccos will make it seem like you're a pro golfer. You'll know your distances for each club, where you're most likely to miss, and so much more. And after the round, you'll know how many putts you took, fairways you hit and your green-in-regulations. Your friends will think you're some golf statistician, but you just have a fantastic watch with an incredible app to support it. We're big fans of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, naming it the ultimate Apple Watch for good reason. Boasting a rugged titanium design with a stunning 49mm display, this smartwatch is ready for all types of golf rounds. Because Arccos is such a battery drainer, I prefer the Ultra 2 over the Series 10 for the extra battery life. Otherwise, a single round will use almost all of your battery.

ESPN ranks top 25 college football plays since 2000: Which Clemson moments made list?

ESPN ranks top 25 college football plays since 2000: Which Clemson moments made list? After being named Clemson Tigers head coach on a full-time basis in December 2008, Dabo Swinney ushered in not only an era of college football excellence, he created a dynasty. That dynasty produced six straight ACC titles and subsequent trips to the College Football Playoff, four appearances in the national championship game, and two national titles. Both of those national championships were won against the Swinney's alma mater, the Alabama Crimson Tide, where Swinney was a walk-on receiver in 1989 and played for legendary coach -- and Bear Bryant protégé -- Gene Stallings. Under Swinney, Clemson has had no shortage of moments over the past 17 seasons -- and counting -- that Tigers fans can describe in lurid detail from the snap of the ball right up to the final whistle. Only one of those plays made ESPN's list of the top 25 college football plays from the first quarter of the 21st century, though. The play? The one known as 'Orange Crush.' Hunter Renfrow's title-winning catch named a top ESPN college football play from past 25 years ESPN ranked Hunter Renfrow's game-winning touchdown catch with one second remaining against Alabama in the 2017 College Football Playoff Championship at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa as the sport's 13th best play since 2000. The Tigers won their first national championship since the 1981 season with a 35-31 victory over Nick Saban's Crimson Tide. Renfrow finished the night with a game-high 10 catches for 92 yards. Deshaun Watson threw for 420 yards and three touchdowns on 36-of-56 passing, and the Tigers snapped a 26-game Alabama winning streak. ESPN's Andrea Adelson described Renfrow's game-winning catch this way: The play forever known as "Orange Crush" delivered Clemson its second national title in school history in the 2017 national championship game and the first under coach Dabo Swinney. In an epic back-and-forth game, Alabama had scored to go ahead 31-28 with 2:07 left. Plenty of time remaining for the Tigers' offense. Quarterback Deshaun Watson marched them down the field, reaching the 2-yard line with six seconds left. Watson found Hunter Renfrow in the end zone for the winning score -- thanks, in part, to a rub route Artavis Scott ran to give Renfrow just enough space to get open. Clemson scored with one second left to win 35-31." Renfrow's catch ranked ahead of the "Bush Push" featuring USC Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and quarterback Matt Leinart in the Trojans' last-second win over Notre Dame in South Bend in 2005, as well as LSU's "Blue Grass Miracle" against Kentucky 14 years earlier on Nov. 9, 2022 in Lexington. Should more Clemson highlights have made ESPN's list? The Tigers' game-winning drive against Ohio State in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl to secure Clemson's fourth national championship game appearance in five years is one that certainly comes to mind. Trevor Lawrence's 34-yard dump pass to Travis Etiennne with 1:34 to play in Arizona put the Tigers ahead for good in a 29-23 thriller over the Buckeyes to snap a 19-game Ohio State winning streak. Or how about 11 months earlier in the Bay Area during 'Clemson-Alabama IV?' The Tigers pummeled the Crimson Tide at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara with a dominant 44-16 victory behind a stellar night from Lawrence (347 passing yards, three touchdowns). The play that started it all? Cornerback A.J. Terrell's 44-yard interception return for a touchdown after picking off Tua Tagovailoa on Alabama's first drive for a 7-0 Tigers lead less than two minutes into the game. Clemson's rout of Alabama made the Tigers the first team in modern college football history to finish 15-0. Deion Sanders jumps into Mel Kiper-Mario Cristobal feud after Shedeur draft fallout

Deion Sanders has entered the chat. The Colorado Buffaloes coach showed love for ESPN star and vocal Shedeur Sanders proponent Mel Kiper Jr. on Thursday after the draft analyst's war of words with Miami football coach Mario Cristobal boiled over this week. 'But I Love u my man! You stood on the desk with great balance 10 toes down and said what u doggone said & didn't flinch. You knew what time it was my man & we're blessed to be right where God wanted us to be. 'With OPPORTUNITY' they forgot I was in the tv/entertainment business for 20 years before coaching,' Sanders posted on X. 6 Deion Sanders, the father of new Browns QB Shedeur Sanders, posted a supportive message on X to ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper. AP 6 Mel Kiper Jr., a vocal proponent of Shedeur Sanders, focused much of his draft commentary on the former Buffaloes QB. ESPN/X The 57-year-old Sanders was responding to a fiery message written Wednesday by Kiper, who hit back at Cristobal for comments made about the 2025 NFL Draft process, in which the coach said he spoke with an estimated 'million people' about former Miami quarterback Cam Ward — the No. 1 overall selection by the Titans — but the ESPN personality was not one of them. 'Mario Cristobal claims he spoke to a million people about Cam Ward, yet the one he didn't speak to, being me, had Ward ranked higher (6th on my Big Board) than any of the other draft experts. Interesting isn't it. And oh by the way, I didn't speak to Deion about Shedeur either. I need another Orange Crush after this nonsense,' Kiper wrote. 6 Miami football coach Mario Cristobal said he didn't converse with Mel Kiper Jr. about Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con 6 Ward is now under center with the Titans. Getty Images Kiper's passion for the 23-year-old Shedeur was on full display during last month's NFL draft, when the polarizing prospect stunningly slid to the fifth round and was selected No. 144 overall by the Browns. Although Ward landing with the Titans had long been a lock, much of Kiper's draft commentary was centered on Shedeur, even after the Giants — who had done the most homework on Sanders' son — traded back into the first round to select Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart at No. 25 overall. 'Surprised he went ahead of Shedeur, not shocked, because [coach Brian] Daboll wants mobility,' Kiper said at the time. 6 Shedeur Sanders was drafted in the fifth round by the Browns in April 2025. AP In the days following the draft, Kiper said he wasn't privy to the online chatter centered on his Shedeur-heavy commentary. 'I didn't even know about it,' Kiper said on 'The Adam Schefter Podcast' in late April. 'I was told, [ESPN vice president and executive producer] Seth Markman comes in and says, 'Mel, you're trending on Twitter.' I don't know what they said, I kind of believe it wasn't nice, but I didn't read one of them, but I was told I was trending over Shedeur Sanders.' 6 He joins a crowded QB room that includes fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. Getty Images With the late-round addition of Shedeur, the Browns entered spring practices with five quarterbacks — four if you omit ailing starter Deshaun Watson, who is recovering from an Achilles injury, putting his 2025 availability into question. He'll compete for the starting job alongside Joe Flacco, now on his second stint in Cleveland, former Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, taken No. 94 overall by the Browns in the third round. 'I feel like the Browns fans they just want something to hope for and they've been wanting it so long and long,' Shedeur recently said. 'And finally, I'm here to change that, I'm here to actually get what they want.' Shedeur will likely see some preseason action this summer before the Browns' opener on Sept. 7, when Cleveland hosts AFC North rival Cincinnati.
