Magnesium, probiotics, and collagen are some of the buzziest supplements on the market right now, but they are just three of the many vitamins and herbal remedies that Canadians are leaning on to support their health. According to one survey, as many as 38% of men and 53% of women take supplements regularly. There are a variety of reasons why someone might want to start supplementing, says Adrienne Ngai, a registered dietitian in Vancouver. 'Vegetarians may need a B12 supplement, as well as calcium and vitamin D, for example,' she says, because they may not be getting enough from their daily diet. 'And those over 50 should take a vitamin D supplement of 400 IU per day.' So, if you're not already blending a powder into your morning smoothie or popping a pill before bed, you're probably wondering what some of the most popular vitamins are for, and when it might make sense for you to supplement. Story continues below advertisement Creatine Our bodies make this natural compound in the liver, kidneys and pancreas, and it's also found in red meat, chicken and fish. Some new research shows that creatine is beneficial for cognitive function, but it's best known as muscle-building support. Creatine assists with the creation of ATP, which supplies energy to our muscles, reduces cell damage, and assists with post-workout recovery. Organika Creatine Powder If you're ready to get ripped, the folks at Organika recommend starting with a loading phase, where you take the supplement three to four times a day for a week, then switch to a maintenance phase where you take it once per day stirred into a water bottle or beverage. $29.97 on Amazon (was $31.99) Story continues below advertisement Collagen 'Collagen is a structural protein found in skin, hair, nails, and bones,' says Ngai. 'Our bodies do make it naturally, but aging, sun damage, smoking, and drinking alcohol decrease collagen production.' There are some studies that show an improvement in skin moisture, elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles with consistent supplementation, but more extensive research is needed, she says. Story continues below advertisement Folic Acid Most people get enough with a healthy diet, because folic acid is found in a variety of foods including beans, peas, lentils, spinach, broccoli and orange juice. But, its recommended that all women who are planning to get pregnant or could become pregnant ensure they are getting 400 to 1,000 mcg daily, to prevent neural tube defects and pregnancy complications. Folic acid is also essential for heart health and cognitive function. Webber Naturals Folic Acid 1,000 mcg Each tablet contains a full 1,000 mcg dose and is vegan, soy-free and non-GMO. TIP: If you take multiple supplements, consider using a vitamin pack to keep you organized and ensure you don't miss a dose. $7.47 on Amazon Story continues below advertisement Iron Women who are pregnant or menstruating are often at risk of iron deficiency. 'If you don't get enough iron, you can feel tired and irritable,' says Ngai. 'If you think you have an iron deficiency, speak with your doctor to get it checked.' AOR Ortho Iron This iron supplement also contains vitamin C, B6, copper, and B12, which are supporting nutrients that enhance iron absorption and further assist with red blood cell formation. It's also easy to digest, gluten-free and non-GMO. TIP: If you are also taking calcium, take it at a different time of day, as these two nutrients can interfere with each other's absorption. $52.86 on Amazon $66.49 at Story continues below advertisement Magnesium Sometimes called the 'antistress' mineral, lately magnesium has been touted as a sleep-supporting nutrient, but it plays a role in a number of functions, from muscle recovery to bone building. It's found in a slew of foods, including nuts, whole grains and dark green veggies. Nature's Sunshine Magnesium Complex Product description If you think your body needs a top-up, this complex contains two types of the best-absorbed types of magnesium. But to avoid unpleasant side effects like gastro issues, be sure to take no more than 350 mcg daily, says Ngai. $28.20 at Nature's Sunshine Story continues below advertisement You may also like: Ninja Professional Blender – $119.99 Ello Pop & Fill 22oz Stainless Steel Water Bottle – $26.97 Greens Superfood Powder – $38.98 Melatonin This sleep aid has been steadily rising in popularity, as more people struggle to get enough zzz's. Your body does produce it naturally, but if you're trying to overcome jet lag, or turn back your internal clock to help you fall asleep earlier, a supplement can help. Genestra Brands Melatonin Spray Melatonin is safe to take in low doses for short-term use but be sure to talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or thinking about giving it to your kids. This spray contains 3 mg of melatonin in every spritz, to help reset your body's sleep-wake cycle. $22.25 on Amazon Story continues below advertisement Omega-3s These are healthy, unsaturated fats that we can get from foods like salmon, trout, eggs, chia and walnuts. Omega-3 fats help to support and maintain immune function, heart health and cognitive abilities. Orange Naturals Omega-3 Fish Oil Each caplet contains 1000 mg of a wild fish oil blend including sardine, anchovy and mackerel. The easy-to-swallow soft gels can be taken daily with food. Tip: 'If you find supplements to be fishy tasting, store them in the freezer and take them frozen,' says Ngai. $25.19 at Story continues below advertisement Probiotics These are live bacteria and yeasts that can have health benefits for your body, by assisting with digestion and gastrointestinal issues. Probiotics are naturally found in fermented foods like yogurt but can also be taken as a supplement in the form of a pill or powder. Cymbiotica Probiotic This supplement contains 19 potent strains of gut-friendly, rebalancing bacteria that work to support a healthy microbiome. For best results, take three capsules daily with a meal. $116 at Cymbiotica Story continues below advertisement Vitamin C This water-soluble vitamin is essential for collagen formation, wound healing, immune function and more. Fortunately, vitamin C is found in a number of food sources, including strawberries, red peppers, leafy vegetables and citrus fruits. For example, an orange contains about 70 mg of C, and women need 75 mg daily. Sports Research Vitamin C Product description It's important to note that taking too much vitamin C can result in diarrhea, nausea, and other unpleasant side effects, says Ngai. $30.95 on Amazon Story continues below advertisement Vitamin D It's called the 'sunshine vitamin,' but sun exposure isn't sufficient to get all the D your body needs. The best way to get enough is through diet—including foods such as fortified dairy products and nut milks, eggs, fatty fish and mushrooms—and taking a daily supplement. Vitamin D helps to support muscle function and keep bones strong. Jamieson Vitamin D These easy-to-swallow little tabs are a simple way to get your daily dose. TIP: To maximize vitamin D absorption, take your supplement with a meal containing healthy fats, like avocado, fish, eggs or nuts. $6.67 on Amazon Story continues below advertisement Note: Before you start taking a new supplement, it's smart to consult with your doctor or pharmacist to ensure the product is right for you and that it doesn't conflict with any of your prescription medications. Looking to level up your skin, hair and nail game this summer? Shoppers are raving about this one supplement — and no, it's not some random TikTok trend. Enter Organika's Enhanced Collagen Protein. This odourless and flavourless powder has earned a loyal following from skincare junkies. It's easy to mix in your smoothies, coffee, matcha and more. Plus it's packed with the good stuff to support glowing skin, healthy joints and stronger hair and nails without any sketchy additives. Oh, and did we mention it's sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle? Your body (and your morning latte) will thank you. As an added bonus, the collagen powder is made in Canada and available via Amazon's Canada Showcase. Keep scrolling to see why the beauty powder is worth the hype. While the unflavoured option is popular, this powder is also available in Lemon and Chocolate flavours. If you've heard the buzz about collagen but are still on the fence, here's what you need to know. Collagen powder has become a go-to supplement and the science backs it up. Studies have shown that hydrolyzed collagen (the kind used in most powders and Organika's supplements) can significantly improve skin elasticity (which decreases with age), hydration and texture, while helping to reduce wrinkles. It's also been shown to relieve joint pain and improve mobility in those with osteoarthritis, making it a popular choice for active individuals and those experiencing age-related joint issues. Each 500g tub contains pure collagen peptides sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle with no hormones, antibiotics, or GMOs. It's also gluten-free, keto-friendly and paleo-approved, making it a versatile choice for a range of dietary needs. Because it's hydrolyzed, it's broken down into smaller peptides for better absorption, meaning your body can actually put it to popular anti-wrinkle cream is made in Canada — and it's only $15 on Amazon I've been using this anti-aging face cream for over a year. It's just like La Mer's $525 cream, but it's $476 cheaper Paulina Porizkova, 59, is 'completely and utterly fangirling' over this viral anti-aging treatment The powder is also undetectable once added into hot or cold drinks, smoothies, soups, or baked goods and there's no weird aftertaste or clumps. 👜 12,000+ reviews ⭐ 4.5/5 stars 🏅 "One of the best collagen products I've tried!" Organika's Enhanced Collagen Protein has garnered a loyal following among Canadians for its quality and effectiveness. One happy shopper raved: "I started using this product to address joint discomfort, and it's been a game-changer!" Another said: "I already notice quite an improvement in my hair, skin, nails and even my joints after 6 weeks." Not sure what shoppers say about blending it with drinks? Rest assured. One shopper revealed: "The powder dissolves easily without altering the taste or texture of my drink." Did you know Organika is BC-based & family owned and operated for over 30 years? While most are thrilled with their purchase, some have noted about the size of the packaging and amount of product: "Disappointed that the container was way bigger than the contents." If you've been in search of a low-maintenance way to boost and supercharge your wellness, Organika's Enhanced Collagen Powder is the way to go. Between the stellar reviews and benefits, this powder is about to become your newest secret weapon.

11 Canadian products I'm shopping this week on Amazon: Cleaning products, toilet paper and more
Have you been keeping up with Amazon's Canada Showcase? As a Canadian shopping editor, it's where I've been doing a lot of my buying lately. This hand-curated section is packed with everything from made-in-Canada household products to must-read novels by local authors. It's an easy way to support Canadian brands, personalities, products and more (and super convenient, thanks to free shipping with Prime on Canadian products). Plus, you'd be surprised at how many hidden gems are actually from our homeland. This week's finds are particularly good. If you're looking for inspiration, I've rounded up 11 things I'm adding to my cart this week. Keep scrolling to dive I've been trying to prioritize my hydration — and have been looking into electrolyte drinks. These Organika packets have been a top choice for me, as they're sugar-free and have 110mg of vitamin C. Plus, they're easy to pop into my reusable water bottles. There are many flavours available, but these lemon iced tea ones are calling my name. I've heard great things about this novel by Canadian author Carley Fortune. It has quickly earned a no.2 spot on Amazon Charts, and it boasts tons of rave reviews. "It had me so enthralled," shares one five-star reviewer. It seems like the perfect summer read — and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Now this product is interesting. It's a no-rinse, plant-derived hand-wash detergent. Yes, you read that correctly — no endless rinsing and no residue will be left behind. I've been wanting to ditch the toxic detergent and swap for something natural, and this might be the perfect start. According to one shopper, it's a "fabulous product for washing delicates!" I haven't had cereal in a minute, so when I saw this cinnamon vanilla flavour of Shreddies, I immediately added it to my cart. Not only does it sound incredibly tasty, but it's very high in fibre, which is a bonus. There's not much to say about this one, other than the fact that I'm on the brink of running out of TP, so it's time to replenish the stash. This pack comes with 12 large rolls that amount to 24 regular rolls. As mentioned above, I am trying to steer clear of any unnecessary toxins in my detergent. Attitude is not only made in Canada but also made with 98 per cent naturally sourced ingredients, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I don't know about you, but I can't get enough Mini Eggs. As one reviewer puts it, "You have to watch yourself, you might eat the whole bag." There's nothing wrong with having a sweet treat in the house, and I've sadly run out — which is why these are headed to my house now. My hair has been feeling a little dull lately, which is why I've been on the hunt for products that will give it a little zhuzhing up. This hair mask claims to soften, strengthen and add shine, which is just what my locks need. One promising review says it's the "best hair mask ever." Pamela Anderson, our Canadian queen, has one of the most beautiful cookbooks I've ever seen — and I can't help but wonder why I don't already own it. It contains 80 recipes that intend to nourish the soul, earning the title no.1 Most Gifted in the category of Vegetable Cookbooks on Amazon. I love a good house spray, but not so much the ingredients in them. However, this air freshener spray by Attitude features 96 per cent natural origin ingredients, which makes me feel a lot better. It's perfect for freshening up the living room, bedroom, bathroom or any other space without burning a candle or using a plug-in. I personally prefer foaming cleansers; something about the foaming action feels like it's doing a better job cleaning my skin. This Marcelle one is fragrance-free and won't clog pores, making it a great choice for sensitive skin. Shoppers confirm it's "gentle" and "non-irritating."
