Orlando Pirates hit injury crisis before MTN8 Cup clash!
Orlando Pirates appear to have returned home with a few dings, following a successful tour to Spain. 'It is expected that there will be some minor injuries and swelling in various players since football is played by young men,' Abdeslam Ouaddou told Isolezwe. It was a momentous tour for the Buccaneers, who recently welcomed new coach Ouaddou amid eleven signings this offseason, including Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi, marking the first look at a relatively new-look roster. Based of Ouaddou's comment, several players are expected to miss Orlando Pirates' MTN8 Cup quarter-final clash against Polokwane City on August 2. While Monnapule Saleng and Mohau Nkota have exited the Soweton next, star players Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng have remained; however, there's growing scrutiny surrounding the latter, who has several clubs vying for his services. Dutch giants PSV are the latest club to show interest – and they aren't holding back. 'R100 million is like a round figure. It's more than that! The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million,' an inside source revealed. 'You know it's not exactly what you want that you get, and that's why they are talking about the R100 million, but it's believed to be more than that.' Orlando Pirates: New faces, recovery updates, transfer chase
Orlando Pirates' pre-season training in Spain is now in full swing, with the club unveiling a clear strategy of rebuilding and refreshing their squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The addition of nine new players, including promising young talents such as Sipho Mbule and Oswin Appollis, has brought renewed energy to the camp. The coaching staff is closely monitoring their progress, aiming to blend youthful exuberance with the experience of established squad members. The mood within the squad remains professional and focused, despite the looming departure of Mohau Nkota, who is set to complete a transfer to Saudi Arabia's Ettifaq Club. Nkota's goals and attacking contributions were instrumental last season, making his exit a notable loss. However, the Buccaneers appear determined to adapt quickly, working hard to build a team capable of competing strongly both domestically and on the continental stage. On the injury front, defender Olisa Ndah is making encouraging progress as he nears a return from a lengthy layoff. His presence will strengthen Orlando Pirates' backline, which has been tested during pre-season due to absences. Meanwhile, off the pitch, reports have emerged linking the Buccaneers to Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro, a player who impressed during his recent loan spell at AmaZulu FC. If completed, this signing could offer valuable attacking options, helping to fill the void left by Nkota and increase competition for starting places upfront. The future of talented midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng remains a key talking point. With interest reportedly coming from European clubs, his stay at Pirates is not guaranteed. Nevertheless, the club is focusing on assembling a balanced squad ready to challenge for trophies, regardless of the outcome. Playing for Orlando Pirates a dream come true, says Oswin Appollis
Orlando Pirates' new signing Oswin Appollis is cherishing being part of the Buccaneers, saying wearing the Soweto giants' famous black and white jersey means a lot to him. Appollis joined Pirates from Polokwane City a week ago. The Bafana Bafana star has already shown flashes of brilliance in Bucs' two friendlies in their camp in Spain — a 2-0 defeat against English third-tier side Bolton Wanderers on Friday and 1-1 draw against Cypriot champions Pafos on Sunday, both at Marbella Football Centre. 'Yes, it is a dream come true to play for Pirates. Playing for this great club is an honour. I always watched [Pirates] on TV — now wearing this jersey means a lot to me,' Appollis told sportscaster Thomas Mlambo in Spain on Monday.

New Orlando Pirates star takes number jersey 23
Orlando Pirates' new attack will feature Sinoxolo Kwayiba next season, a uniquely styled goal-scoring number 10 who plays very much like a number nine. After seven goals and one assist in 28 games, the 25-year-old Kwayiba has done enough to earn a move to the Sea Robbers. Meanwhile, the Gqeberha-born talent has been spotted wearing the number 23 jersey during a preseason friendly match in Spain. Kaizer Chiefs: Crisis in the wing positions? According to Malada, Kwayiba epitomises discipline, a defining trait in footballers' careers in Mzansi. 'The boy (Kwayiba) is easy to guide, and it is fulfilling to see his progress, which a lot of others can learn from,' said Moses Malada via Kick Off . Orlando Pirates news: Emotional message and Venda number 10 'The top attribute about him is that he has the right attitude of an athlete. His discipline is a huge factor in all aspects of whatever he does both on and off the field, and that is important. If you keep the discipline in football, you will make it far, just like it is showing with Kwayiba, who is on the right track. He can even play overseas and that will be no surprise. 'I mention discipline about him because the boy was away from home while with us for a season, but he kept his discipline in place,' concluded Malada.
