Marion Cotillard and director Guillaume Canet SPLIT after nearly 2 decades together
French movie star Marion Cotillard and director Guillaume Canet have separated after nearly two decades together with "mutual respect", the star couple announced on Friday. "After 18 years together, Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet have decided to separate by mutual agreement," said a statement released by their representatives. "This decision was made with mutual respect," it added. Oscar winner Cotillard frequently collaborated on projects with Canet since their relationship began in 2007, including the 2010 comedy-drama "Little White Lies" (Les Petits Mouchoirs). Cotillard, 49, and Canet, 52, who share two children together, said they hoped to avoid "speculation, rumour, and misinterpretation" with the announcement. "By being transparent through this statement, Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet also express their desire for their private lives, and especially that of their two children, to be respected," the statement said. Cotillard, one of the best-known faces of French cinema, won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose" in 2008. Canet, who is also an actor, is best known to international audiences for his role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in 2000's "The Beach".

Is this the best movie of the 21st century? 500 Hollywood power players think so.
The people have spoken, and the best movie released since Jan. 1, 2000, has been chosen. And by people, we mean the 500 or so actors, directors, writers and other Hollywood power players The New York Times surveyed for its 100 best movies of the 21st century ranking, which came out with its top 20 on June 27. The likes of Pamela Anderson, Nicholas Sparks, Stephen King, Simu Liu, Sofia Coppola, Danielle Brooks, Brian Cox, Ava DuVernay, Molly Ringwald, Rachel Zegler and Mel Brooks had their say — and yes, you can even see each of their top 10 picks, Letterboxd style. Oscar-winning director Coppola apparently took a shining to the 2004 Pixar classic (and fellow Oscar winner) "The Incredibles," while Julianne Moore admitted she's not above a raunchy comedy like "Superbad" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." And Sparks isn't only watching soppy romances; he's also enjoying dramas like "Inception" and "Gladiator." Undeserved Oscar winners – and the ones that should have won What's the best movie released since 2000? None other than Bong Joon Ho's "Parasite," which in 2020 became the first ever non-English film to earn the best picture Oscar, ranked as the No. 1 highest-voted film in the NYT's survey. And no wonder, because it earned an eye-boggling 99% "fresh" rating from nearly 500 film reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. In 2019, USA TODAY's film critic Brian Truitt was close to giving the social commentary thriller full marks (he ended up giving three and a half of four stars). The Korean film "is expertly paced with its reveals, never falls apart (even when it descends into bloody chaos) and also features outstanding acting performances," he noted in his review. In case anyone was wondering, director Bong did not include any of his own films (which includes the recent "Mickey 17" as well as 2017's "Okja" and 2013's "Snowpiercer) in his top nine ranking. Charlize Theron unimpressed by Raya dating app
Charlize Theron is on the celebrity dating app Raya - but it hasn't proved fruitful for her. The Oscar-winning star was introduced to the app by a friend, but Charlize hasn't had a great experience on Raya so far. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the 49-year-old actress shared: "I am [on Raya, but] I don't do anything with it. "A friend put me on it, I went on two dates and then I kind of … it's like, every guy has a Burning Man picture, and they're a CEO of like, nothing. Or like a fitness ... Then you meet with them and they're not [a CEO]. They just say it up front. Well, why did you put that on your thing?! "No, I don't like it." Meanwhile, Charlize recently revealed that her children are unimpressed by her acting career. The movie star is one of the best-known actresses in Hollywood - but Charlize's kids are underwhelmed by her achievements. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Charlize quipped: "My children have zero respect for me. "It's just unbelievable, I feel like I'm pretty humble, but every once in a while I'm like 'there's a f****** Oscar right there.' They are so not impressed with me." Charlize - who has adopted daughters Jackson, 12, and August, nine - recalled a recent incident when one of her kids admitted to being impressed by another well-known movie star. She shared: "I was picking up my youngest from dance yesterday and we drove past the new 'Mission Impossible' poster where Tom Cruise is hanging onto some yellow plane, and he just looks really cool. "My kids were with me when I shot 'Old Guard 2' and I worked on this incredibly intricate sequence where we brought in this amazing helicopter pilot, Fred North, and we were gonna choreograph this incredible me fighting helicopters and jumping on this real helicopter and hanging off. Shooting 99 percent of it on a real helicopter as it's trying to shake me off like a rag doll. "We took like two weeks to shoot this sequence and I was like, 'Wow, I just did that, that's really amazing.' And my child yesterday just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, 'It's weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.' "I was just like, 'I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?'"

New film academy members include Danielle Deadwyler, Ariana Grande, Jason Momoa, Conan O'Brien
By JAKE COYLE The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited 534 new members to its organization on Thursday, adding recent Oscar nominees and many more to Hollywood's most exclusive club. The newest class of Oscar voters includes a number of stars like Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Danielle Deadwyler and Andrew Scott. They, along with filmmakers, below-the-line professionals and executives will bring the film academy's membership total to 11,120, with voting members numbering 10,143. That's the largest membership ever for the academy. Since the #OscarsSoWhite backlash, the film academy has added thousands of members to swell its ranks and diversify its voting body. This year's class is 41% female, 45% from underrepresented communities and 55% from outside the U.S. Those new members will make the entire academy 35% women, 22% from underrepresented communities and 21% international. 'We are thrilled to invite this esteemed class of artists, technologists, and professionals to join the Academy,' said academy chief executive Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang in a statement. 'Through their commitment to filmmaking and to the greater movie industry, these exceptionally talented individuals have made indelible contributions to our global filmmaking community.' Invitations went out to 91 Oscar nominees and 26 winners, including best actress winner Mikey Madison ("Anora") and best supporting actor winner Kieran Culkin ("A Real Pain"). Recent nominees who were invited include Ariana Grande, Jeremy Strong, Sebastian Stan and Monica Barbara. Gints Zilbalodis, the director of best animated film winner 'Flow" will join the animation branch. Other filmmakers set to join the academy include Mike Flanagan ('Doctor Sleep'), Azazel Jacobs ('His Three Daughters'), Brady Corbet ('The Brutalist'), Coraline Fargeat ('The Substance') Jane Schoenbrun ('I Saw the TV Glow'), Halina Reijn ('Babygirl') and Gia Coppola ('The Last Showgirl'). Payal Kapadia ('All We Imagine As Light'), Lena Waithe ('Queen & Slim') and Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley of 'Sing Sing' were all invited in the writers branch. In the music branch, new members include Brandi Carlile ('Elton John: Never Too Late'), Branford Marsalis ('Rustin') and Youssou N'Dour ('Youssou N'Dour: I Bring What I Love'). The last two emcees to host the Oscars — Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien — were also invited as members. After a well-reviewed broadcast that drew 19.7 million viewers, O'Brien is returning to host the 2026 Academy Awards on March 15. A few new rules will await the 2025 academy members. For the first time, members will be required to watch all nominated films in each category to be eligible to vote in the final road of Oscar voting. This year, a new award category for casting will be voted on for the upcoming Oscars.
