Taylor Russell Exits "The Thomas Crown Affair" Remake
Yara Sameh Taylor Russell will no longer be involved in Amazon MGM Studios' reimagining of 'The Thomas Crown Affair,' where she was set to star opposite Michael B. Jordan. Production on the movie, directed by Jordan, is underway in London. Russell had dropped from the movie due to creative differences, and the studio will be recasting her role as progress continues toward the film's March 5, 2027 theatrical release date. 'The Thomas Crown Affair' also stars Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk and Aiysha Hart. Drew Pearce wrote the script, with plot details being kept under wraps, following a previous draft written by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, which was based on the original film. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo are producing the picture for Outlier Society, alongside Charles Roven via Atlas Entertainment. Patrick McCormick and Toberoff Productions' Marc Toberoff also serve as producers. Alan Trustman (writer of the original 1968 film starring Steve McQueen) is an executive producer. Russell is best known for her standout turns in Trey Edward Shults' A24 feature 'Waves,' for which she won the breakthrough actor award at the Gotham Awards, and Luca Guadagnino's 'Bones and All,' which earned her the emerging actress prize at the Venice Film Festival and nominations from the Gothams and Independent Spirit Awards. Russell will be seen next in the Korean thriller 'Hope' by Na Hong-jin, opposite Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Hoyeon; starring in Frank Ocean's upcoming film opposite David Jonnson; and in talks for a remake of 'Single White Female' with Jenna Ortega for Sony. She recently made her stage debut in director Jamie Lloyd's critically acclaimed revival of Lucy Prebble's play, 'The Effect,' which had a run in London and New York. Taylor Russell has exited the Thomas Crown Affair over 'creative differences'. The 31-year-old actress was previously cast as the female lead in Michael B. Jordan's upcoming reimagining of the 1968 film but she has now left the project and the role will be recast, according to Deadline. The film is currently in production in London. Michael is directing, starring in and producing the movie via his production banner Outlier Society, alongside Elizabeth Raposo. Russell's departure is surprising as she underwent a long casting process that included meetings, auditions and a screen test with Jordan in London at the beginning of the year, before landing the role. This will be the third Thomas Crown Affair movie, with the original 1968 movie pairing Faye Dunaway as Vicki Anderson, an investigator hired to discover the culprits of a multi-million dollar bank heist, and Steve McQueen as the orchestrator of the crime, Thomas Crown. The 1999 movie remake Pierce Brosnan as a rich playboy who enjoyed the thrill of stealing art, opposite insurance investigator Rene Russo. Lily Gladstone and Sir Kenneth Branagh are among the cast of the new film, although their roles are being kept under wraps. The upcoming movie takes place in Europe, and the art of thieving remains a central theme of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Drew Pearce has written the script, while Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff will serve as producers. Alan Trustman, who wrote the original film, has been hired as an executive producer on the upcoming movie. The romantic thriller is scheduled for release in March 2027.

The Black Panther actor is set to take on double duty as star and director in the highly anticipated remake of the classic 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair. The story follows a wealthy mastermind who pulls off a daring art theft, sparking a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. There is also a 1999 remake of the film with the same name, which starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. On Monday afternoon, Jordan went to Instagram to post black and white photos of the updated cast of his movie, which includes himself, Kenneth Branagh (Death on the Nile), Taylor Russell (Bones and All), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Danai Gurira (Black Panther, All Eyes on Me), Pilou Asbæk (Salem's Lot,Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) and Aiysha Hart (Salvable, Mona). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Drew Pearce wrote the script for the new movie after Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson penned a previous draft. The 2027 remake will be produced by Outlier Society, Jordan's production company that was launched in 2016.
