The popular butchers have spent years supplying the Inchicore area with fresh, good quality meat products. And speaking to The Irish Sun after the announcement last night, Pat revealed customers were visiting him in tears today. "I had them all in this morning, slagging me. They're all roaring crying." Advertisement And Pat told us how after 26 years in the area he liked to offer a helping hand to the local community. Pat said: "It's a local shop, in every sense of the word. He explained: "Many a time that people have come in and haven't got the money you give them their meat and then when times are good again, they come back to you and they give it back to you." The kind-hearted business man added: "Then a funeral, if someone dies, I'd always drop up turkey, ham, corned beef for when people drop in with sandwiches, because everyone's up in the air. Advertisement "And you pull the shutters when the funeral's going by, just a mark of respect. "Then if the kids are going by and they need something, if they're going by the school, they can come in and make a phone call. "Or if they needed money, you'd just give it and then their mams would come down and fix you up." 'IT'S A LONG TIME' And after 26 years of hard work Pat made the decision to take a step back for lifestyle reasons, but admitted he has some apprehension. Advertisement He told The Irish Sun: "It's a long time. Very apprehensive to be honest with you. "You don't know whether you're doing the right or wrong, but a decision has to be made. "It's more a lifestyle choice than business, although business in the small shops is going down." And while Pat said he'll close up quietly next Saturday for his last day, he wouldn't say no to heading for a goodbye drink with his customers. One person said: "Thank you for your service and kindness down through the years." Another added: "Best of luck pat, you have served the people of this community with great dignity and respect, you and the lads will be greatly missed. I have 26 years here too and many a great burger we had from the shop. "A pork and leek sausage added to the minced beef is magic. Best wishes to the lads too." One local cried: "Devastating news."
