Female Officer's Nose Broken In UK Airport Attack, Court Examines Bodycam Footage
A British police officer has described feeling "absolutely terrified" after she was punched in the face during a violent incident at Manchester Airport, according to Sky News. PC Lydia Ward suffered a broken nose and was left with blood streaming down her face. The incident happened in July 2024 when officers tried to arrest Mohammed Fahir Amaaz at a Starbucks inside the airport. He was suspected of headbutting another man. During the arrest attempt, Amaaz resisted, and a fight broke out involving his brother, Muhammad Amaad, and police officers. Bodycam footage shown in court captured the moment of the assault and the chaos that followed. PC Ward told the court that Amaaz began to resist and tense up as officers attempted to escort him outside, as per the news portal. "Things escalated very quickly. It just went from nought to a hundred," she told Liverpool Crown Court. She said she had Amaaz's arm behind his back when he began kicking out at PC Marsden and then "punched me straight in the face". "I can't really remember where it landed but I know where my injuries were. I remember falling on the floor and everything went black," she said. The officer, who said she was "petite" and weighed eight stone, told the court it was the first time such violence had been used against her. "As I came round, all I could feel was blood pouring out of my nose," said PC Ward. "I was just thinking he has done something to my nose, face area, I didn't know what has happened." The officer - who joined the force in 2018 after being a special constable - said she was "absolutely terrified". "I didn't know who was going to come up at me next," she told the court. "I was scared of going after this male again and being punched in the face again." She said other people in the car park pay area were filming on their phones and "shouting stuff". "Nobody came to assist. I felt everyone in that room was against us," PC Ward added.

PC punched in Manchester Airport 'assault' says she was 'absolutely terrified'
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A police officer who was punched in the face while trying to arrest two brothers at Manchester Airport has told jurors she was 'absolutely terrified' during the alleged attack. PC Lydia Ward said she had 'never experienced that level of violence' after her nose was broken during the incident involving Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, in Terminal 2 last July. She and two colleagues from Greater Manchester Police had approached Amaaz at a ticket machine after a report that a male fitting his description had headbutted a customer at the Starbucks in arrivals. Amaaz allegedly resisted, and his brother, Amaad, is then said to have intervened, with the court told they inflicted a 'high level of violence' on the officers. Adam Birkby, for the prosecution, earlier suggested Amaaz threw 10 punches, including one which floored PC Ward, and that Amaad aimed six punches at firearms officer PC Zachary Marsden. Amaaz is also said to have kicked PC Marsden and twice struck firearms officer PC Ellie Cook with his elbow. Giving evidence on Thursday at Liverpool Crown Court, PC Ward described trying to 'grab [Amaaz] off so he could stop kicking PC Marsden'. She said: 'All I remember then is that he turned and he punched me straight in the face. 'I can't really remember where it landed but I know where my injuries were. I remember falling on the floor and everything went black.' She told prosecutor Adam Birkby that the blow delivered was 'really forceful'. PC Ward, a former special constable with Lancashire Police who joined GMP in 2018, said: 'Never in my whole time in the police service had that level of violence been used on me before. It felt really hard. 'As I came round, all I could feel was blood pouring out of my nose. I was just thinking he has done something to my nose, face area, I didn't know what has happened.' Mr Birkby said: 'How did you feel when you came round?' PC Ward replied: 'I was terrified to be honest. I was absolutely terrified. I had never experienced that level of violence towards me in my life. 'I didn't know who was going to come up at me next. I was scared of going after this male again and being punched in the face again.' She said at one point she pressed her police radio emergency button to call for further assistance, but the impact of the punch had knocked the battery out. She told Mr Birkby that other people in the pay station area were 'shouting stuff' and 'filming on their mobile phones', adding: 'Nobody came to assist. I felt everyone in that room was against us. 'To be honest, I was terrified.' PC Ward, who described herself as 'petite' and weighing eight stone, said she deployed her Pava incapacitant spray against two men who approached Mr Amaaz when he was on the floor after a Taser had been discharged on him. She said: 'They just kept coming forward, trying to impede. I was telling them to go back and they were not listening.' Rosemary Fernandes, representing Amaaz, put it to PC Ward that her client was 'taken by surprise' at the ticket machine and was 'shocked'. She said: 'It is important you identify yourselves as police officers, isn't it?' PC Ward said: 'I don't think we had any time to do that. We didn't have any time for rational discussion with this male as it turned violently quickly.' Ms Fernandes said: 'I put it to you that the defendant believed he was being attacked from behind and it all happened extremely fast. 'It is the defence's case that he punched you in lawful self-defence on the basis that you were an assailant. Do you have any comment on that?' PC Ward said: 'I don't know how he felt I was an assailant. He turned towards me and punched me in the face. 'He could see I was a police officer, and he could see I was a female as well.' Footage from a body worn video camera of a female police colleague was played to the jury which showed a bloodied and crying PC Ward being comforted in the aftermath of the incident. Shocking footage reveals brothers ‘brawling with cops' in airport chaos
Two brothers allegedly involved in an assault on a customer at Manchester airport lashed out at three responding officers using a 'high level of violence' in a bloody attack caught on CCTV, a court has heard. A jury at Liverpool Crown Court heard cops had been dispatched to deal with Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, following an earlier altercation at a Starbucks in the airport. Footage played to the court previously showed Amaaz headbutting customer Abdulkareem Ismaeil in the cafe and punching him on July 23, The Sun reports. Jurors also watched new airport camera footage from opposite angles which captured what prosecutors say was a 'high level of violence' towards the officers. PC Zachary Marsden and PC Ellie Cook – both armed – and PC Lydia Ward, who was unarmed, could be seen approaching the brothers in the car park of Terminal 2. Amaaz resisted as police tried to move him away from a payment machine to arrest him before Amaad intervened. The court heard Amaaz threw ten punches – including one to PC Ward's face that sent her crashing to the ground with blood pouring from her nose. He is also said to have kicked PC Marsden and twice struck firearms officer PC Cook with his elbow. The court heard that that Amaad also aimed six punches at the firearms officer PC Marsden. Both Amaaz and PC Marsden then fell to the ground before the officer gets up and appears to 'stamp' his foot towards Amaaz's head, it is alleged. Junior counsel Adam Birkby said the cop 'doesn't appear to connect with Mr Amaaz'. As the brawl continues, the police officers get their Tasers out before managing to handcuff the brothers with the help of other cops. At one point, PC Ward could be seen appearing to cry as she holds her nose. In his evidence, PC Marsden said he felt 'blows from all directions' and branded them the 'hardest I have ever felt in my life'. He also said felt an 'immense weight of pressure' to his right side and felt his Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol move across his leg and around his body during the brawl. PC Marsden added: 'My initial fear is that someone is trying to get my gun. If someone gained my firearm it would pose an immediate lethal threat to anyone in the vicinity. 'The risk of my firearm being taken from me did not stop until we gained control. 'There was more than one person involved here – the aggressor I was trying to arrest and possibly an accomplice who was a much bigger physical build than me and much taller.' Footage from the body-worn cameras of the three officers was also played to the jury. Amaaz is alleged to have assaulted PC Marsden and PC Ward, causing them actual bodily harm. He is also accused of the assault of PC Cook and the earlier assault of a member of the public, Abdulkareem Ismaeil, at Starbucks. Amaad, 26, is alleged to have assaulted PC Marsden, causing actual bodily harm. Both men, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, deny the allegations. The court heard previously that the brothers had gone to meet their mum at the airport on July 23. She had allegedly been involved in some sort of incident with Abdulkareem either on their flight or shortly after it. As the brothers passed by the Starbucks, the mum pointed out Abdulkareem to her sons as he sat with his wife and children in the cafe. Prosecutor Paul Greaney KC said: 'At just after 8.20pm, the defendants entered Starbucks and confronted Abdulkareem Ismaeil. 'During that confrontation, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz delivered a headbutt to the face of Abdulkareem Ismaeil and punched him, then attempted to deliver other blows, all in front of a number of children. 'The prosecution case is that this was obviously unlawful conduct.' Jurors heard PC Marsden suffered 'post-concussion syndrome' and was left with a 'severe headache' for three days, dizziness, forgetfulness and bruising and swelling. PC Ward was left with a broken nose and needed surgery under general anaesthetic, it was said. The court was told both Amaaz and Amaad have claimed they acted in self-defence. Amaaz denies assaulting PC Marsden and PC Ward, causing them actual bodily harm. He is also accused of the assault of PC Cook and the earlier assault of Abdulkareem Ismaeil at Starbucks. Amaad has pleaded not guilty to assaulting PC Marsden, causing actual bodily harm.

Jury shown CCTV and bodycam footage of brothers allegedly assaulting police at Manchester Airport
CCTV and police bodycam footage allegedly showing three police officers being assaulted at Manchester Airport has been played to jurors. Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and his brother, Muhammad Amaad, 26, are said to have struck out after police were called to the airport on 23 July last year, after Amaaz allegedly headbutted a customer at a Starbucks in Terminal 2. Minutes later, three police officers approached the defendants at the paystation in the terminal's car park. A jury at Liverpool Crown Court today watched CCTV footage from opposite angles, which captured what the prosecution says was a "high level of violence" being used by the siblings. The prosecution says Amaaz resisted as officers tried to move him to arrest him, and Amaad then intervened. Junior counsel Adam Birkby suggested Amaaz threw 10 punches, including one to the face of PC Lydia Ward, which knocked her to the floor. His brother Amaad is then said to have aimed six punches at firearms officer PC Zachary Marsden. Amaaz also allegedly kicked PC Marsden and struck firearms officer PC Ellie Cook twice with his elbow. He is said to have punched PC Marsden from behind and had a hold of him, before PC Cook discharged her Taser. The bodycam and CCTV footage, submitted as evidence by the prosecution, allegedly shows the officers' arrival in the Terminal 2 car park and their attempts to arrest the siblings, as well as their exchanges with them. PC Ward can be heard saying "Oi, you b*****d" in footage from her bodycam, the prosecution evidence appears to show. She then appears to fall to the floor and screams. PC Cook, who is pointing her Taser at one of the defendants, then allegedly says: "Stay on the floor, stay on the floor whatever you do." "Get back, get back," PC Ward appears to say. The bodycam footage, shown to the jury by the prosecution, shows PC Marsden, who is also pointing his Taser, appear to approach the defendant who is lying on the ground and appears to kick out at him. Amaaz denies three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to the three police officers and one count of assault to Abdulkareem Ismaeil, the customer at Starbucks. Amaad denies one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to PC Marsden.
