Jake Knapp's girlfriend Makena White recalls how ‘very private' relationship got exposed on PGA Tour

Makena White had no intention of exposing her 'very private' romance with PGA Tour pro and boyfriend Jake Knapp at the 2024 Mexico Open. Life, however, had other plans. White took a stroll down memory lane Monday after the PGA Tour's official X account asked its three million followers to 'share a piece of golf lore about yourself,' prompting Knapp's biggest supporter to peel back the curtain on her personal life. 4 Jake Knapp with girlfriend Makena White during the Cognizant Classic in February 2025. 'A year later I got outed playing hooky from work on a Thursday cause that same bf shot 59 & photos of us cellying were all over the internet. '2 years of getting sewered.' 4 Jake Knapp celebrated his first PGA Tour victory with Makena White in February 2024 at the Mexico Open. Getty Images Knapp, 31, earned his first PGA Tour victory as a rookie in February 2024 at the Mexico Open, where White joined him on the course at Vidanta Vallarta for the sweet celebrations that were immortalized on social media. White and Knapp had been dating for six months at the time. She flew in from Canada for the final round after the golfer's unexpected rise to the top of the leaderboard. As Knapp has become a steady contender on tour in the year-and-half since, White has frequently been by his side. A year later, the California native shot a bogey-free 59 in the opening round of the Cognizant Classic at PGA National, joining the exclusive sub-60 club with White in attendance. 4 Jake Knapp finished tied for third at the 3M Open in July 2025. Currently ranked 77th in the world, Knapp is coming off a top-three finish at last weekend's 3M Open, where he tied for third at 20-under par, three strokes behind winner Kurt Kitayama at 23-under. Knapp will be in the field at the upcoming Wyndham Championship, which tees off Thursday. He turned pro in 2016.

Philip Knowles soars with eagles to share Rocket Classic lead

PHOTO: AFP WASHINGTON – Philip Knowles said he was lucky with his three eagles, as he grabbed a share of the lead with Chris Kirk and Andrew Putnam after the second round of the PGA Tour's Rocket Classic on June 27. Knowles, ranked 519th in the world, fired an eight-under 64 to match Kirk and Putnam on 14-under 130 for 36 holes at Detroit Golf Club. 'I got pretty lucky a couple times,' he said. 'I hit quality shots that ended up going in the hole, but I can't imagine chipping in three times for eagle ever again in my life.' Back-nine starter Knowles, on a medical exemption after thumb and eye injuries the past two years, seeks his first PGA title after making the cut only twice in 11 prior starts this season. 'It has not been my best year thus far by any stretch of the imagination, but golf is funny,' he added. 'When you're playing bad, you never feel like you're going to play good again, and when you have days like today, you just don't understand how you could ever shoot a bad round of golf. 'So it was super rewarding.' Knowles made his first eagle at the par-five 17th, when he rolled in an 81-foot chip from the fringe. At the par-five fourth, he chipped in from the fairway from 37 yards and, three holes later on another par-five, he chipped in from the left rough from 40 yards. 'That was surreal,' he said. Putnam, who shot 66, birdied three of the first four holes then eagled the par-five seventh on an 88-foot chip-in from the fairway and got up and down from a bunker at 14 in his bogey-free round. 'It didn't feel like bogey free,' he said. 'It felt like I was kind of all over the place on the back nine, but the front nine was pretty simple golf. Wind came up, got a couple tricky holes out there, so glad I could grind it out.' Kirk fired a 65, opening with three consecutive birdies and closing with back-to-back birdies. 'Dream start for sure,' he said. 'Back nine was a little bit more hit and miss... But I was in a really good rhythm. Proud of the way I hung in there and kept hitting good shots.' Jackson Suber was fourth on 131 with Mark Hubbard, Michael Thorbjornsen and Aldrich Potgieter on 132. Jake Knapp fired a course-record 61 to stand on 133, breaking the mark of 62 set a day earlier by Kevin Roy and Potgieter. It was the second course record of the season by Knapp, who fired a 59 at PGA National in the Cognizant Classic. AFP Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

The Rocket Classic got off to a hot start with Min Woo Lee tying the course record at Detroit Golf Club with a 63, but that record didn't last long. Two other players came in later and posted 62s. Well, it looks like there's something in the Michigan air, because less than a day later, we have a new course record. PKG ambassador Jake Knapp lit it up with an 11-under 61, which is even crazier when you realize he shaved 11 strokes off his score from the day before. That round launched him 124 spots up the leaderboard, landing him in a tie for sixth, with the round still in progress. Knapp went bogey-free, carding an eagle and nine birdies. One of the standout moments? A 34-foot eagle putt on the par-5 17th. Jake Knapp of the United States prepares to play a shot on the 18th hole during the second round of the Rocket Classic 2025 at Detroit Golf Club on June 27, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan."It was a good day. I mean, yesterday I felt like I was doing everything OK, not great, and then just kind of did everything a little bit better today," he said after his second round performance. "Putting was tough yesterday, I didn't make anything. In the afternoon a little bit bumpier greens, it's just sometimes how it goes." "Was able to definitely hit it a little bit closer today, and I drove it a lot better, which was nice, so had a lot more chances." This is his second course record of the season. You might remember Knapp fired a first-round 59 during the Cognizant Classic at the Champion Course at PGA National. The 31-year-old talked about it after wrapping up his second round in Detroit. "I'm definitely not afraid of shooting a low number, I feel like when I start making birdies, I want to make more," he said. "I was even kind of thinking about 59 when I stuck it close on my third to last for eagle and figured I could maybe eagle that and birdie the last two." Jake Knapp's achieved 25 rounds in the 60s so far this season, including that insane 59 and this Friday's 61. But he hasn't quite been able to string those performances together. So far, he's only got two top-10 finishes: a tied for sixth at the Cognizant Classic and a tied for third at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. 'A noble calling': DeSantis signs law shortening firefighter shifts, praises their service

PALM BEACH GARDENS — Gov. Ron DeSantis praised the work of Florida's firefighters and signed a bill on June 5 that strengthens the state's commitment to them during an appearance at the 81st Annual Convention of the Florida Professional Firefighters at PGA National Resort & Spa. Speaking to firefighters from around the state, DeSantis said his administration has long prioritized honoring firefighters' life-saving work. "We appreciate your service to the state," he said. "We recognize the fact that you have a duty that you discharge to run into the danger to protect others — family members, friends, whatever may be in harm's way. That's a noble calling, and that's very meaningful to the communities that you serve. So thank you for what you do and keep up the good work." DeSantis said House Bill 929, which passed in April, marks a significant step in reinforcing the state's support for its firefighters. Among its main provisions, the bill limits regular shifts to 42 hours per week to reduce burnout and fatigue, and mandates suicide-prevention efforts as part of safety guidelines. "We ask our firefighters to face danger at a moment's notice," DeSantis said. "You have to run into the fire, you have to respond to emergencies, and you obviously are exposed to a lot of really significant trauma. That takes a toll, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. This bill ensures we recognize and respond to those realities." The bill's primary sponsors, Rep. Erika Booth, R–St. Cloud, and Rep. Danny Alvarez, R–Dover, were at PGA National with DeSantis for the bill-signing ceremony, and both reiterated the state's commitment to its fire service personnel. "To every firefighter across the state of Florida, thank you for your service," Booth said. "Thank you for your strength and for your sacrifice. This law is a step forward. Our commitment to you doesn't end here." Alvarez added that the bill sends a clear message that Florida backs its firefighters with policy, not words. "There's a lot of people that give incredible lip service once they get elected to cops and firefighters because they think that's how they're going to get votes," he said. "But when you press those people to find out what they're really made of, they collapse. Do you know why? Because everyone loves cops until it's time to pay for them. Everyone loves firefighters until it's time to fund them. This bill proves to you that's not true." During his address Thursday, DeSantis said he has proposed a 25% pay increase for state firefighters in the state's budget, which has not yet passed. DeSantis noted that, as of now, the House has excluded a pay raise from its proposed budget, while the Senate most likely will include one. While he remains hopeful that the final budget will include the pay raise, he noted that the state already was "flush" with resources. During his tenure as governor, he said, the state has run budget surpluses that are the "biggest" in the state's history while cutting taxes and supporting first responders, environmental restoration, infrastructure and education. "We're showing that this can be done, and done in a really, really good way," he said. "There are people in other states that could take a lesson from that."
